I decided to go with the credit union and so far it has been a good choice. I use their free checking and their savings only needs a minimum of $5.00 to open the account. Their free checking has no hidden fees or requirements and it truly is free, you do not have to have a monthly direct deposit or minimum balance. They have a mobile banking app that allows you to make transfers and deposit checks just like all the big name banks do. They also now have a broader range of surcharge free ATM's even those of stores like CVS, 711, Costco..etc. so no need to go to a Bethpage branch ATM to make a simple withdrawal. So far I have been happy with the credit union and I'm glad I switched and am no longer supporting the big banks. This particular location is the one I use the most and so far everyone has been super nice here. When I joined I also received $50.00 for bringing in my old debit card and since I wanted to close my old account after I opened this one the girl who helped me was nice enough to let me come back a few days later and get the $50.00 for turning in the card.
