    Bubble tea

I wanted to love this place more than I did. I've had bubble tea in Asia before and took a special detour to try it. The person serving was sat on her phone when I came in and wasn't that helpful when I asked questions on the different options available. The menu is quite large with most things available hot, cold or iced. Then you have the choice to add pearls etc, how much sugar you want to add and how much ice you want. There is such a lot of choice that I wanted some help with the options. I don't normally have sugar in tea but I do in chai so I went for the lowest level of sugar and still found it too sweet for me. There is some seating by the window on bar stools and a larger area at the back of the store but it only has one sofa and one other seat so it's there isn't much seating. They advertise free wifi but I couldn't get connected to it. I'll probably come back on a rare sunny Edinburgh day and get bubble tea to go sit in the sun and pretend I'm on holiday but I don't think I'll be here regularly.

Chatime brand hails all the way from Taiwan where bubble tea originates from. They have been really famous as their bubble tea is considered one of the best in Asia. None of that diluted flavouring and full impact flavour. When it comes to consistency, this is where they shine. Whether it is Taiwan, Malaysia, London or Edinburgh, the drinks are consistently the very best in the city and exactly the same in each branch. I have never seen them being stingy on the flavouring of their drinks. In Edinburgh, it is the same. There are a few places in Edinburgh that serve bubble tea but Chatime is the best in Edinburgh and I have already tried all of them. You can choose the amount of sweetness and also ice in your drink like with any of the other outlet. Do give this outlet a try and explore some drinks unique to Asia.

Great drinks, a wide variety of choices and combinations. The new and improved lounge offers a lot more seating now.

I just got back from Asia where I had been indulging in Chatime's milk teas on what was almost a daily basis.

Oh my goodness, that looks absolutely delicious! That's quite the meal, a perfect balance of carbs,…read moreprotein, and veggies, which is something I admire.

One evening in Berkeley, California, out to dinner with some friends at a Korean restaurant, I…read moreshared that I was heading to Scotland in July of 2019 and asked if anybody had been and had any recommendations for places to go. Probing why I was going a little, they got out of me I am of the Gordon Clan of Aberdeenshire, a Scotland of Old clan. One of my friends exclaimed, "Gordon!" He paused, looked me directly in the eyes and said, "You know we're rivals right?!" He is Nate James Lindsey. A member of the Lindsey Clan, one of the Gordon Clan's rival clans in Scotland of Old. Once we addressed our rival ancestries, he recommended to me The Baked Potato Shop in Edinburgh, the city I was flying into/out of for my first trip not only to Scotland, but to Europe as well. Well, I might as well go I thought, how bad can a rival clan recommendation be. The night I arrived in Edinburgh, 5 July 2019, I entered The Baked Potato Shop and was greeted by a friendly worker. After looking over the menu, I went with a baked potato loaded with vegan chilli and vegan Macsween haggis. After placing my order, paying, and getting the baked potato I thought the only thing missing from my first ever evening in Scotland was bagpipe music. No sooner had I thought that than I heard the sounds of bagpipes wafting across the cobbled lane out front of the Shop. Across the cobbled lane I went, lured by the wail of the bagpipes. After listening for a bit and providing a tip I returned to the guest house I was staying the night at. The food was delicious and filled my travel-tired belly. The haggis was the first I had of any kind, vegan or non-vegan, and it was an immediate favorite. Offset from my departure time zone by 8 hours, I went to sleep soon after eating. I woke up early the next morning ready to go. Turns out the baked potato and toppings cured my jet lag in less than 24 hours, quite remarkable. What a way to end my first day in Scotland, a recommendation from a member of a rival Scotland of Old clan yields tasty food. I will however note that I am also of Irish descent, so I am still not sure what to make of the recommendation in light of the Irish Potato Famine... Ahhh, Scotland of Old lives on.
