The salmon wasn't worth calling a fish. Even the desserts were bad. The strawberry ice cream tasted like toothpaste and the tiramisu was almost dry. I hate writing negative reviews. Really hate it. But I hope everyone can avoid this place if you're careful enough to use Yelp.

It's on a small plaza with two other restaurants in the plastic tablecloth and non-too-clean category, whereas Andana Aljibe is elegant and superbly clean. Don't be put off by the elegance: the serious was outstanding but not pretentious, and the food among the best we have eaten anywhere. We recommend the 3-course fixed price menu which includes a trio of appetizers (you get all three) and a selection of meat or fish main courses, plus dessert, wine, and bread. Andana Aljibe seems to be a new restaurant, and was not busy when we were there at lunch on a weekday afternoon. I hope the people who read this review will give Andana Aljibe a try and enjoy it as much as we did.

We had plans to try Navarro, one of the higher-end Spanish restaurants, just because it showed up on a couple of best-of lists, but we found it closed on the evening we were in town. It was starting to rain, so we rushed to find a last-minute substitute. This was the restaurant we found, and lucky for us, it turned out to be great. It was an atmospheric space with both indoor and outdoor tables. Surprisingly, they seated us without a reservation. We fortunately chose to be inside as a torrential downpour interrupted our meal. A complimentary starter of Spanish olives and housemade potato chips arrived as soon as we sat down (Photo 6). We first ordered the award-winning 8€ Las Bravas del Trinquet, their unique version of patata bravas topped with a spicy tomato-based brava sauce and garlic aioli (Photo 9). That was a tasty delight that elevated an already great side dish. We also went for the 14,75€ Ensalada de Tomate de Temporada where they served juicy grape tomatoes topped with canned longfin tuna (Photo 8), It was yet another flavorful dish with the sweet tomatoes providing a fresh contrast to the tuna out of a tin. Our main event came soon after, the 18,1€ Paella Valenciana, sizzling in an authentically well-worn pan (Photo 10). Completely satisfying, it followed the traditional recipe of chicken and rabbit, green beans and butter beans, and high-grade Bomba rice. Our meal was an unexpected winner.
