Rodolfo truly is a joy to work with and is so knowledgable about his craft. Couldn't have pictured (love a good pun) working with anyone else for the first framed piece in our son's nursery. While at a community holiday fare, we bought a super cool piece of art from a local vendor of a map of El Cerrito which includes my husband's work site. It's playful, colorful, and full of joy. After utilizing the Yelp app to find a framing company close by, we found Artistic Picture Framing. After meeting the crew in-person, we knew we were in the right hands. We worked with Rodolfo on choosing the right colors for the piece and chatted about becoming parents, the nursery we were building, and the magic we were hoping to encompass and build around from this staple piece. He captured truly what we were looking for at an affordable rate. Looking forward to utilizing this service for future art, so happy with the outcome!

I decided to get museum glass to prevent reflection and fading of the textile. It usually takes about 3 weeks for them to finish the framing, but I got it back in 2. My son and his wife were very pleased with the completed project. I did find non-metered parking in front of their shop but I arrived around 15 min after they opened at 11 am. I would definitely consider using Sticks again.

Also, I wanted to keep the camera, and I heard that if you get them developed at the drugstores, they ship the cameras to someplace else to get them developed. It was my first time developing film, but the worker was very helpful. She explained to me the different packages and options that they offered. She recommended the develop + print package and to add on the digital scans, as I wanted both. She also helped me decide which photo paper I wanted on the prints; matte or glossy. I paid $33.57 for developing the film, prints, and digital scans. Since this was my first time, I did think it was a bit pricy; not knowing how much people usually pay. I only had 12 prints lol. I received an email stating that my order was ready for pick up; it took 3 days. I received the digital scans in 2 days. The photos came out sooooo goood!!! And it was nice not knowing how they were going to turn out! It was very nostalgic. I recommend Photolab for your prints!

NEVER GO TO CHEAP PETE'S. It's not cheap (pricing is actually on par with other better, industry-standard art framers), and it's a truly terrible business from the quality of the framing to their not standing behind their problematic work to the abusive customer service. NOTE--I WRITE VERY FEW REVIEWS. This experience was such a standout that I am not only writing this review, I've complained to the California Department of Consumer Affairs and am disputing the charges (some $1800--not cheap, right?) with my credit card. I make and buy a lot of art and need to have it framed, and I had been searching for a new framer. I thought I had found it at Cheap Pete's in Berkeley. My first experience, with the gentleman who works there, was quite good, and the art I was framing was neither precious nor unique in its framing needs. Corporate Cheap Pete's has not replied to my complaints, telling me the fish rots from the head. THEN (IN THE TLDR; CATEGORY), I had terrible, dishonest experiences with the management; two precious, handmade embroideries comprising 100s of hours of fine work were inappropriately GLUED rather than tacked to backer board, making it impossible to reframe them and ruining their archival qualities; the embroideries were framed crookedly and with uneven borders; and a framed piece of two business cards is already falling off its tape. Worst, Cheap Pete's largely denied these issues, didn't take responsibility for them, were combative and rude, and did not follow through on several promises. I wrote a long email about this to the central corporate Cheap Pete's Cheap Pete's feedback email on May 21 (it's now July 11) and NEVER heard back. I took one of the embroideries to be reframed at great double expense, and that framer was aghast that the embroidery had been glued, basically ruining the embroidery and making it impossible to straighten out the crookedness. IN THE LONG, NON-TLDR; CATEGORY, my customer service experience: My next experience was working with Hayley, the store's manager. She was absent and cold when we were working out how I would frame my pieces, and mostly on the computer. When I asked if she could help me, and she said, "I AM helping you. I'm putting your piece into the computer." When I came to pick up my pieces, one of them, a large, one-of-a-kind embroidery that I had spent some 100 hours lovingly making, had been framed incorrectly -- uneven border, none of it the half-inch border I'd specified. I was working with Mary at the time. When I pointed them out to her, she shrugged and offered to "shim" it for me. She said the border didn't look uneven to her. I asked for a ruler and showed her that indeed it was objectively uneven. Shrug. I had paid an $85 rush charge and needed it in LA on deadline for a major family birthday party gift. I asked if they would ship it, as I was leaving the next morning; the shipment was approved. I asked for a refund on the rush charge, and not very nicely and from the back, Hayley shouted, "She can't have that back because we're shipping it for her. She can have one or the other, not both." After I got home, I realized I didn't have the other piece. I called CP and was told it had been set aside for me. I asked why nobody had called to let me know it had been missed -- I could have still been in the neighborhood. Hayley said, "We're not responsible for you forgetting something. We figured you would realize it eventually." Then I realized that ANOTHER item, a frame I'd purchased, was missing. I talked to Hayley again, who once again said, "We're not responsible for you forgetting things." We went back and forth a bit, and she was combative and dismissive. I then got combative in return, and she said, "Now YOU'RE being combative." Duh. Overall, manager Hayley has a terrible attitude and is not at ALL customer service oriented, which for a custom framer is terrible! Framing is expensive, and the things we frame have emotional meaning. THEN Hayley called me (I was already in LA) to tell me (again with horrible tone) that they could not ship it (I'm guessing because it was too expensive), and NEITHER would they refund the initial $85 rush fee! I had a choice, she told me combatively of their reframing it or my picking it up as is (with no mention of any refund). I opted for the reframing. When I picked up the reframed embroidery, the borders were STILL uneven, likely because they had inappropriately glued the embroidery (which I didn't know at the time) to the backerboard, making it static rather than malleable for the repair. Shadowbox mount of business cards falling off their tape after 2 months. Entire frame will need to be opened to repair. Uneven borders in embroidery, AFTER they claimed to have fixed them! read more

I spent four years of art school framing my own stuff, and realized just how hard it was to do on your own. What I really like about this shop is how much they helped me, but listened to what I had to say. I felt like I was still the one designing my stuff, but the suggestions were definitely appreciated! Price may have been a little more than chain shops, but the service and quality definitely out-ranked other places I've been! read more

My favorite frame shop. The work is great, and a much nicer selection than chain stores (I also prefer to support the small guy, rather than Michaels Inc.). Four stars only because some of the most helpful staff have left recently, but I will continue to shop there, and maybe some of the current staff will rise to the occasion. --I'll update if so! read more
