WOW . What a nice find in the East Bay. Greg was very cordial and welcoming when I arrived with 2 prints from my Uncle's collection of work to be framed. We started with colors and frame style. Greg expertly shared his opinion and then proceeded to provide samples of both our selections for choice. Once i felt comfortable with the top 2 choices we discussed installing a mat or going without. At no point did I feel pressured to choose one way or the other during the process. When the final choices had been made, Greg worked up a price estimate . It was pure sticker shock ( the good variety )! The price was about 60% less than competitors with a larger storefront. Great value for the service and quality of workmanship. The final product provides me a great sense of relief and pride, as now I have provided a worthy means to display these fine pieces of art that I hold special attachment to. read more

I had a favorite lithograph that I was afraid was ruined when it got wet in a move. JC was able to flatten out the ripples and frame it in such a way with a mat covering most of the water damage so you really couldn't see it unless you were looking for it. There was a specific type of distressed wooden frame that JC didn't carry, but he got some for me to choose from. It took me awhile to decide on one. Then, I couldn't make up my mind about which color mat to use. JC showed extraordinary patience with me and did a simply beautiful job. After I hang this up over my mantel, I will add a photo. Also, he charged me a price that was way more than fair, and his craftsmanship was flawless. One side benefit I should mention is that he has great jazz playing in the shop and lots of pictures and sculptures to look at. He will get all my framing business from now on. read more

I couldn't be happier with the custom shadowbox job that J.C. did for me. After calling around a bunch of places who told me that they didn't do shadowboxes and a few that would but who charged an arm and a leg, I found this place on yahoo.local. He has a small operation and does all the work himself. I took in my piece and he gave me a quote that was well under his competitors which made me kinda worried. But after talking to him for a while and finding out about his credentials, I decided to trust him with my art. I picked it up today and I have to say that it looks great. The shadowbox is custom made and it is constructed with precision. The frame and matting are a great complement to the art. I would return to J.C. not only for his unbeatable prices, but for his skill of the craft. This is the type of place that once you find, you never need to go anywhere else. JC and his associate, Greg, are two of the nicest, honest, and capable framers in the business. I shopped around for a framer who could handle the stretching and framing of a very large canvas, and JC delivered on quality AND price. The only trade off I had to consider was time - because JC is in demand, there was a bit of a waiting period. That said, it took about three weeks to stretch and frame my art, which wasn't an issue at all considering the price was half that of the competition and JC and Greg were so easy to work with. When I went to pick up the completed art, JC even went out of his way to point out a (very) small part of the frame that didn't fit quite right. He offered to fix the issue in a week or provide a small discount. Had he not mentioned it I would never have noticed, but it just goes to show how honest JC is and how much he prides his work. The owner is extremely nice and sweet. I had to cut one piece of glass I have. His quote on the phone was 'the best deal in town - free'. Not only did he cut my glass, he went out of his way to clean the glass, put it back into the metal frame, and replaced a missing metal spring, all for free. Superb locally owned small, black business! He knows everything about framing if you do not so if you already have something in mind or need suggestions, he's your man. I've come here a couple times and he's def become my regular framing guy. I already knew what I wanted for some regular screen prints, but didn't know how I wanted to frame a clay board piece. He showed me a piece that he float mounted and the end result for my clay board was amazing! Prices are pretty typical for pro framing and he'll remember you if you come more than once. I never need my stuff framed super quickly so if you do, you should ask him beforehand what the turnaround time is because sometimes he's pretty busy.
