Last week Chef to go Catering provided breakfast and lunch for our company holiday party. Since I work early I was able to enjoy both meals. As I walked into the building the aroma of fresh eggs and potatoes lured me toward the conference room. There were two kinds of eggs- plain and for the more adventurous eggs mixed with bacon, cheese and chives. I really liked the cheesy eggs. The potatoes were seasoned and tasted really good. Even the security guard stopped me to ask and make sure I got some. The fruits were sweet and fresh. Everything else was also great and was a nice start to the day. For lunch we had all your holiday favorites- salad, turkey, veggies, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry and bread. They did a good job of keeping trays filled and warm. The salad was okay but I really liked that the turkey was not dry. I'm one of those people that doesn't really like white meat. I also liked that the veggies had a lot of variety and they weren't soggy. Sometime veggies get soggy when they sit in the tray too long. The mashed potatoes were creamy and paired well with the gravy. It was nice to see Chef to go Catering at our company event. read more

We used Chef Daniel as our caterer for our wedding on May 16th, 2010. I must say that for what we received, particularly the quality of the food, I feel like Chef Daniel's services are HUGE bargain. He was our second choice, after our original caterer had to back out, and I'm so glad that happened--because the first caterer's food/service was maybe as good, but was also twice the price. I was actually pretty stunned when Chef gave me his quote! Chef Daniel and his team came through in every way possible. Our reception was for roughly 100 people and included a selection of appetizers outdoors, and then a full buffet indoors, at a venue out in the country with no kitchen facilities beyond some sinks in the bathroom. Everyone in my extremely picky family, who have endured many bland wedding buffets, has told me how amazingly delicious and gourmet everything was. We were able to provide vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options, while still accommodating the meat-and-potato-loving folks on the other side of the spectrum. Even the kids loved it. In choosing a menu, we were given virtually unlimited options, so for the most part I just gave the chef a list of some of our favorite ingredients and asked him to put something together for us. The menu he proposed was very thoughtful and showed that he puts a lot of creativity and effort into his food. When we proposed modifications, he either made them or gave very good reasons why he didn't recommend the changes. In addition to the food, Chef handled all the rentals for us (tables, linens, dishes, etc.) and his team also served the drinks we brought ourselves, with no corkage fee. Everything ran incredibly smoothly, service-wise, and our other vendors (venue, florist) were very happy working with him. In fact, Chef Daniel was recommended to us by the director of our venue, who used his catering for his own wedding (which was all-local, all-organic), and then for numerous events after that. One of the best parts for me personally, because I absolutely LOATHE dealing with people over the phone, was that Chef Daniel was able to handle everything via e-mail. In fact, we'd never spoken or met in person before the big day! I had been a bit hesitant, because Chef To Go does NOT offer tastings, but he had such glowing reviews that I went ahead anyway--and then I got to be totally blown away when I finally tried the food at my wedding! read more

I used Chef To Go Catering for my outdoor wedding of approximately 160 people in Napa, CA. Chef Bell was flexible, accommodating and had amazing food. He accommodated my unusual requests - to use salmon caught by my father (a commercial fisherman) and spices contributed by my Indian mother-in-law to make BBQ salmon and tandoori chicken. Although Chef Bell is fairly informal, his food is as gourmet as you want it to be. For our wedding, we served: - Baby greens, apples, toasted almonds, blue crumbles with honey white balsamic vinaigrette ~ Tomato salad with pesto ~ Seasonable fresh fruit salad ~ Vegetarian ravioli, evoo and fresh grated Parmesan (people LOVED this) ~ BBQ salmon, lemon grass extract and ginger compound butter ~ Tandoori chicken (using an Indian family recipe) ~ Assorted artisan breads and rolls Chef Bell provided the complete buffet set up, buffet cloths, a service staff of 8 (who were all professional and nice), dinner plates, stainless steel knife and fork, cloth napkin (you pick the color) and clear plastic plastic cake plate and fork. His well-attired staff passed appetizers, set up the table tops, cleared plates, poured wine, cut the cake and generally cleaned up. The best part: Per person, including a service charge and sales tax, was about $38 per person. I did extensive research and most quotes ranged from $65 to $100 per person. Weddings are ridiculously overpriced and you will get played - but not by Chef Bell! He provided amazing value for your money and is courteous and responsive to boot. I also had to shift chairs from the ceremony in one part of the venue to the dining area in another part of the venue while the guests were in a third part of the venue, and he was willing to have his staff do so for a small fee. For four years in a row, our summer camp of ~80 kids and ~25 adults has been using Chef Daniel to keep everyone stuffed and happy. Needless to say, serving 3 daily meals to 100+ people, for 7 days in a row, and at a campground 50 miles from civilization is a feat. Yet somehow he manages to make it happen in a way that is affordable and satisfies the picky needs of all kinds of eaters. I had the privilege and opportunity to be the "day of" event planner for a recent wedding that was catered by Chef To Go Catering. They were highly recommended from a handful of friends of my bride and groom. I got on board a month before the wedding and Chef Daniel got me up to date on every last detail. The wedding was at the bride & grooms home & the space was not ideal for an event that size. Most every vendor would have complained but Chef was super flexible and accommodating. Helpful does not begin to describe Chef Daniel. He recommended different food options for the kids that ended up saving my bide & groom $$$. The day of the wedding we had an ice emergency. I went to purchase 15 bags of ice for our open bar (nothing to do with Chef To Go Catering) & it was going to be 90 degrees out that day. As luck would have it, the whole city of Fairfield CA was out of ice!?? Since I am not local, I did not know what to do. So I called Chef- after he told me to relax & he would have no problem picking up a crazy amount of ice on his way to the wedding. The minute he arrived with his team I was at complete ease. They really do set up anywhere! The kitchen that they used ended up being the last minute location for the guests children to watch movies & play during the ceremony. Chef Daniel was given the challenge of catering a home wedding that required negotiating mulit-levels and setting up beverage and food venues in different locations and he exectued this challenge flawlessly!! The wedding was a buffet event for 100 guests and from beginning to end Chef Daniel took care of all the details. The table settings, glassware and cuttlery were all provided by Chef Daniel, and we were not dissapointed with the results as he delivered what he promised. The quality of food and presentation were magnificent and we received several compliments from our guests, but Chef Daniel and his team deserve all of the credit. The appitizers were exceptional, the main meal was excellent and Chef Daniel's team even took responsibility for circualting the wedding cake among the guests. Chef to go Catering catered our wedding in September 2014 and we were very happy with all his help throughout the process answering all our questions and assisting with the rentals we needed - organizing and verifying we had everything covered. We were concerned at the beginning about not being able to do a tasting but decided to go for it anyways as they had catered a wedding at our venue before and we had heard good things from them - we ended up very happy with the food and have heard nothing but good things about all the food from the guests! We had a guest that is allergic to garlic and when I found out just a week before and notified Chef Dan about it he was very flexible and even provided her her own plated dinner.
