#76 for 2021 My wife and I got hungry and wanted something to eat to hold us over before meeting my cousin for dinner. Chef's Gallery was across the street from the mall we were shopping at making it convenient. It wasn't busy coming in after the lunch rush. We were waiting for awhile before getting acknowledged. Finally a lady came and asked if someone was helping us. I said "no" and her reply was ok I'll get someone for you. Ended up waiting a little longer before seating at a table a few steps away. Just deal with it I said. Remember this is Australia I said. They don't accept tipping here I said. And service is not a big thing here I said. I said all that. To myself. It helped a little. The restaurant is large with decor from mainland China. Cultural and historical pieces gave an enjoyable ambiance. Chefs can be seen working at their stations in the kitchen through large windows separating the dining area. The station for the hand made noodles drew the most attention especially the pulling. They make it look so easy. It certainly enhances the dining experience. Dishes are meticulously crafted with color and aesthetics to appeal to all senses. The decor, traditions and flavors of China were balanced in harmony. It is a mystical journey worth the journey. I so wanted the noodles but we just needed something a bit lighter to make sure we had room for dinner in only a few hours. The food is served family style. Large portions meant for sharing. Luckily there were small dishes we could order. We decided to share the Hot Sour Soup and Sweet Sour Pork. I would eat most of the soup. One of my faves. The soup was elegant. Fresh green onions came through the thicken broth. Mushrooms had a lite crunch in contrast to the soft egg texture. This was good. And equally good was the pork. Crispy battered outside but tender and juicy on the inside. I wish there was more sauce with this. Dessert buns were brought out complimentary. That was nice. Next time I'd like to try the hand made spinach noodles. The green color drew envy from everywhere. Many tables ordered these noodles. That's a sign of "that good" huh. Maybe pair that with the rock lobster. The noodles are definitely the signature dishes. Dim sum and hot pots are available. Small sharing dishes, main sharing dishes and roti selections include quality ingredients of wagyu beef, lobster, lamb, pork, shrimps and other beefs. The menu is amazing and wonderful to look at. I wanted to try everything wishing i had 3 stomachs to fill. Water was brought to our table in a large cola type bottle. It went down fast. while waiting for the food. I was trying to flag down someone to get more. Couldn't see our waitress. It took awhile but finally got it. Sheesh. Same thing happened with the check. I was flagging anyone who looked my way. And that was hard because it seemed like no one wanted to look my way. Well, we finally got out. The food is excellent. I so loved it and want to try more off that menu. The service, however, leaves something to be desired. I would come back but will need to make sure I have extra patience on hand. I was about to leave a tip then I remembered. read more

This is meant to be a good restaurant as I have previously tried this place multiple times in Sydney CBD. We ordered 4 very straight forward dishes on their lunch special menu - dishes which will be easily completed and served. You would think..... We enquired about it twice (after waiting for 15 and 20 minutes). Ambience is not the best.... I would prefer to comment on the quality of the food except that we waited around 30 minutes and none of those populate dishes had arrived! Absolutely loved this place! Visiting from LA, had dinner here on the first night with family. Its in a local Mall/Shopping Center and usually pretty busy. We were luckily seated straight away because we passed the usual dinner rush. Servers are super polite. Since it was our first time dining there, we asked for recommendations. She was very sweet and informative, I ended up ordering the SN7: Marbled Beef sipped in spiccy Sichuan soup with handmade spinach noodles, shimeji mushrooms and carrot sticks (extra spicy!!!). Absolutely DELICIOUS! So much flavor, great portions, i'm sad i only had a short time there otherwise i would've tried so many other things on the menu too! MUST TRY, highly recommend. read more

This is a great place to eat with your family or a group of friends. The dishes are meant to be shared. I couldn't even begin to remember everything we had while dining there, but there were numerous items and we all left satisfied and happy. The only reasons I don't give them 5 stars is the iffy service and the crowded/noisy space. My grandson had to keep getting up to search for a pitcher of water. My son-in-law had to flag down the server for the check and then again to have her pick it up, while they had a huge line of people waiting to take our table. The food is delicious, but if you don't like noisy crowded spaces you may want to go during a quieter time than the dinner rush. read more

The first time I went to chefs gallery I thought it was expensive and a little over rated. However, I've gone back a few times since and the quality has definitely elevated. Favourite dishes are definitely the duck roti and spinach noodles with mushroom. The wagyu beef was also perfectly cooked and tender which is hard to find in an Asian restaurant. I really enjoyed dining here and the staff were very friendly throughout our dining. read more

The menu has you spoilt for choice. It's always entertaining to sit and look at the noodlers as they noodle their noodles. The sweet and sour pork is nice, but the batter is a little too thick and stodgy. It's a bit pricey for the taste and quantity that you get in comparison to most other Chinese places, but nice decor and attentive staff kiiinda makes up for it. read more

Seems like dishes are generally designed to share, so you'll probably want to order a few dishes. Full of flavour but a bit too oily for my liking. Last time we went here, my family and I just happened to order the wrong thigns! I take back anything bad I said because this place is AMAZING!! The food is gorgeous - especially the noodles, which are specially and freshly made on site. I would definitely recommend the spicy dry noodles (I've forgotten the name already hahaha) - they're beautiful. Oh and definitely try a lychee and mango crush - they're delicious too. The service was quick and food came out after about 10 mins. No complaints - the place is delicious, and the fact that they're constantly full is a testament to that! read more

I came here for a work lunch to celebrate a colleague's birthday. There were five of us and we ordered five share dishes, plus a super spicy noodle dish for just one person, as well as a bottle of wine. Each of us owed $30 at the end of the meal. My favourite dish was the spicy green beans, although the peking duck rolls were also a hit. We had some noodles with prawns and beef, although their texture was a little chewy for my taste. I liked the san choy bao with duck, although I had hoped it would be more flavourful and would like to try it with chicken instead to see if that balances things out. It can certainly get busy in here, so we were lucky that it wasn't too noisy. Service is good but not great, and you definitely have to come with a large group to be able to try the maximum number of dishes. Who's got the next birthday?! read more

For those that don't have time to read here is a summary: 1) poor service 2) poor food presentation 3) average food taste and quality 4) watered down drinks Since I'm a regular customer at the city restruant, I was really happy that they opened one near my university. So i decided to try it today. However i was appalled at their service. I was greeted with an empty front desk, once I was asked for, all I got was a seat at a tiny table. So I asked if i could change seats and the waitress just rolled her eyes and said no its too busy in broken english. The next thing just made me think again if i should ever come back to the restruant at all. The server just slammed my drink on the table that spilled everywhere and just walked For the presentation of the food is appaling. It looked like a dog's left over breakfast. I had absolutely no appitite to eat after those two encounters and I would think twice if i would ever set foot here again. The taste of the drink wasn't consistent compared to the one in the coty and the taste of it was definitely runned down with water. read more

Its Sat 22nd NOV , my friend and I decided to try out the Chef Gallery at North Ryde as we are very please with the City CG. There was a small group of clients waiting for a table and I wrote my name and requested for a table of 2 at 7.10pm.After waiting for 10 mins, I noticed there were a few empty tables esp for two and also at the "bar". I asked the staff why the table for two were not filled and if I could have that table (24). She said, NO as she needs to let the 3 and 4 guests who came before me to be seated first!! I could not understand her logic and said the 3 and 4 clients will NOT seat at a table for 2 so why not give to clients ( 2) waiting for that. She said NO.. I apologise for calling her "stupid' which in fact it is NOT all her fault as it is fault of the MANAGER who has not 'trained' these young staff to manage a "miilion' dollar outlet.. I left...without eating and doubt I would be back for another 6 months , hopefully by then the staff are better trained and experience!! read more

Biggest ripoff in the world. I would actually classify it as borderline theft... It feels as if this place doesn't want to exchange anything for your money. I paid $20 for a plate of 4 prawns. I'm sure in their ideal world they would get away with serving me with a empty plate. read more

Food is amazing! They do take reservations for groups of 8+, does have minimum spending though. Been here many times - early dinners after shopping, birthday dinners, large family gathering, special wok lunch - all good. read more

Only been the once, but it was my first Chefs Gallery experience, so perhaps my expectations were too high. I thought they were OK, but certainly nothing to write home about. Had the wonton and noodle spicy noodles. Loved the handmade noodles but the sauce and the wontons were just a little meh for me. Will certainly give them another shot at some stage. read more

Great meal here if you can get in. The menu (food porn magazine) is genius. If anything, we always over order as the dishes are larger than they look in the pictures. Prawn with wasabi, all Rhoti and dumplings dishes are spectacular. Noodle making is a spectacle. Good times read more

Whenever I see this restaurant, it's always packed full of people so I thought we should give this a try. We were just lucky that there was no queue when we got there at around 2 pm. We ordered the wagyu beef and peking duck with lychees. The wagyu beef looked pretty big on the picture but we were surprised how little the whole dish was when it arrived. It was still nice and spicy though! The peking duck with lychees was so delicious too! I could eat it everyday. The price range of their dishes is $15-$35. The thing that I was very impressed with is how quick the service was! There were plenty of waitresses so we were able to order quickly. Also, it took less than 10 minutes for the foods to arrive and they all arrived at the same time! I didn't expect that at all from a very busy restaurant like this one. I'll definitely try the handmade noodles next time that was suggested by the waitress. For a first time experience, I give this restaurant 4 stars. read more

Colleagues have been raving about this place for the last couple of weeks now. Can't help but give it a go. Located just steps away from Lok Lok in Macquarie centre, this place is packed with customers and you have to wait for a few minutes just to get your seat. Despite the big crowd, the food came out in about 15 minutes which is not too bad. At first I was a bit surprised by the look of the dry noodle which is absolutely dry. I felt a lot better after I finished stirring the noodle using the chopsticks, Even better when I taste the noodle and the ping pong sized Prawn and Pork Wontons. Everything about it impressed me. starting from the size, the freshness and as you can see from the half eaten one, they don't mince the Prawn, it is the whole prawn wrapped well with the minced pork and Wonton skin. Absolutely fabulous. The noodle is very fresh and look like the Japanese Ramen. There are some bigger sized noodle in my bowl which taste not as good. It could either be the residual from the cooking pot or the amalgamated portion of the genuinely handmade noodle. Either way, I definitely prefer the main part which is the Ramen like version. BTW the sauce is just perfect. Not too spic, not too savoury but at the same time not boring. The Dan Dan noodle however is not as nice as the Prawn and Pork Wonton one. The stock is nice but there aren't noticeable amount of minced pork and prawn. Maybe they ran out, only God knows.Both comes in good portion so can't complain about the size. read more

They never seem to be able to bring meals all at once which means someone can be waiting 10 minutes before their meal comes whilst everyone else has finished eating.....
