Excellent yum cha The yum cha at this Sydney CBD restaurant is excellent and really good quality. In particular we thought that the cheong fun were outstanding with super fine smooth rice skins. The trolley wait staff were very attentive and seemed to be really focussed on selling! This is high end yum cha and a bit on the expensive side - probably because of the central CBD location.

    Har gow at the Rock

This place is ok but prepare for STICKER SHOCK!!! We ordered take away and had lunch at the Rock. We ordered: Har Gow - 2 orders Shiu Mai - 2 orders No Mai Gai - 2 orders Bean curd roll - 1 order Scallop dumpling - 1 order Shrimp and chive dumpling - 1 order The total was $120!!! Seriously, that's wayyyyy over priced. The dim sum quality is good, maybe the best in Sydney but not on par with the best California and twice the cost. There is no menu with prices which is not uncommon in Sydney and often leads to being over charged. I didn't call them on the overcharge because it was the lunar New Years and didn't want to start the year on a bad note. I won't be back.

Dined at Palace Chinese for Christmas dinner while in Sydney. We got in a little too late in the day to have a traditional Christmas lunch so figured a Chinese dinner would be a great option! Huge space with lots of full tables. Seemed like a mix of locals and visitors to Sydney. Huge menu of traditional and modern dishes. There's a full bar as well. I went with jasmine tea and my husband got a Tsingtao beer, which was light and crisp. We split two servings of dim sum platters. These came with a duck dumpling, a prawn dumpling, shrimp Shumai, and a veggie dumpling! Very tasty and nice to have a combination of different ones. We ordered two soups - long soup and bamboo fungus/crab meat. The long soup was basically a Chinese noodle soup with no chicken. Simple but enjoyed the flavor very much! Bamboo fungus/crabmeat was very gelatinous with great flavor. Lastly, we split an eggplant and minced pork hot pot and steamed rice. This dish was enormous!!!! Easily could have been split with 3-4 ppl and we took half of it home. Great flavor, super soft eggplant, mild spice, and a nice ginger taste. Would definitely come back!

    meat-filled taro swans

Solid dim sum in a convenient location, with good classics and some fun offerings, like these taro meat-filled swans! The only note I would make is that we came right when they opened, and it seemed like they were still working on preparing certain dishes - the same carts kept circling us for a while before they came by with a greater variety of options.

The dumpling that broke the camel's back.

I went by myself. Not a clever thing to do really because I ate for three. I did not need that last dish of salt and pepper squid. I could probably have done without the steamed scallop dumplings, and maybe the prawn har gow was excessive. But the XO chilli seafood dumpling was the bare minimum that can be eaten with the snow pea dumplings wouldn't you agree? Nice and close but I think Marigold just shades it for food and tradition. Well worth a go - my view is that yum cha is one of the most important food groups and an essential part of a balanced diet. The balance being I will not be allowed to eat again until Wednesday.

My friend always prefers this place for Yum Cha than those closer to Chinatown. I do agree the food is tasty and also a good place for dinner as well. So here we are celebrating her birthday - always consistent. A bit less hectic since we arrived after 1:30 pm - but missed out on the char siu puff pastry and egg tarts - must come again

    Mango prawn roll

Went there for lunch on a Friday and was glad I went there straight at 12 noon because the place quickly filled up soon after we got seated. The yum cha was good and there were lots of variety to choose from. My favorite is the Mango prawn roll. It was delicious. I never had that at any of the other yum cha places before, so that itself will be a reason for me to visit the place again. Try the Mango Prawn Roll!!!

The food is not that appetizing nor is it that appeal. The service was okay. The room lighting was way too bright.

Ambience seemed old skool China with eclectic decor. We were promptly greeted and seated by our hostess and our server followed suit shortly thereafter. Menu selection is extensive and we started our meal with a bottle of wine as well as an appetizer of two (deep fried) spring rolls. We also ordered two bowls of their famous chicken corn soup and in all reality, one bowl was sufficient enough to share between two people. It was hot and delicious. Main entrees included a black pepper steak which came out sizzling on a platter and reminded me of beef fajitas & pork with vegetables and chow mein noodles. I am not a big pork eater so I ate the vegetables and both entrees were very flavorful and fresh. Top of the meal wasn't dessert; it was chuckling over the robot that was carrying the dishes to the tables with a cute cat face blinking with a meow lol.

You walk up the stairs into the restaurant and the ambiance is great-- clean, organized, welcoming. We are all uni students dining on a budget and the dishes are a bit pricier, but the portions are pretty big, so good if sharing or eating family style. There's a wide variety of food options, so there's something for everyone. Presentation of all the food was great and gave the feeling of authentic dishes. Service was fine, a little slow. It was a busy night, so we had to wave them down, but they also have one of those robots that brings the dishes to your table.

How convenient. She was working a half day to spend the rest with us. It was 2pm and I was starving. She was smart in choosing this time because we noticed it was very busy during the lunch rush. It still was when we got there but a table came up quickly for 3. The restaurant is pretty stylish and modern. The open air seating is very inviting in the middle of the Financial Disctrict. Even with the slight chill air it was nice to be under the sun. Service is not that great here but I could see they were trying. Our server was pleasant making conversation with us. When she found out we were visiting it seemed like she tried to make the whole experience a little better for us by being more attentive. I did peruse the 50 page menu to see what all they had. I wanted it all. The food smelled great. The menu was so intoxicating I told my cousin to order for us. I trusted her decisions. Helps that we like the same kinds of food. 3 dishes would be enough food but my cousin ordered 5 dishes. That's a lot of food. Crispy Pork and Roast Duck combo, Fried Rice, Fried Tofu, squid and Chinese Broccoli Being a Cantonese restaurant my cousin remembered that I would order Chinese Broccoli often here in California. She decided to do the same. Nicely cooked still retaining its' color with a semi natural sweet taste and a little snap. The fried rice is fried rice. Nothing to brag about but good. The tofu was deep fried with a spicy salt. Add nori to it I don't think was necessary but it was good combination. Just didn't like adding more salt to it. The squid too was deep fried with spicy salt. Delicious. Now the pièce de résistance was definitely the pork and duck combo. We're talking lechon quality pork. Very surprising to find that here in a Chinese restaurant because that's a Filipino dish. Combine that with roast duck that was cooked well. This is not the time to talk about how unhealthy this is. Let's just enjoy it for what it is. Two good meats basking in the afternoon glistening proudly and dripping juices of sweetness. Good food with good people. Besides, I was on vacation. Another good eats in Darling Harbour. I'm beginning to think I need to move here.
