They also have a great selection of European beer, from wheat, to Belgium abbey,... The friendly waiter also suggested we try the 3 local "artesanales" bottled beers, Debbla. The blond and the black (stout) had hints of wheat and I loved it. The red was an amazing IPA. They also have very good wines. They make "tinto de verano" ("summer wine") with real "rioja", and the Sherry is supplied directly from the "bodega". The food goes well with beer. Pizzas, sausages, "codillo" (ham hock), and montaditos (small sandwiches). Montadito gorila was our favorite.

I won't say a whole lot but we started with onion soup which arrived with a slice of un- toasted store bought white bread with a slice of processed cheese on top sitting in the broth. The main was not much better as we asked for roasted potatoes and were informed all that was available was French fries that were not the greatest. I don't think the veal was actually veal, it was more like beef round. They did have a Trip Advisor sticker in the window so that also enticed us to try the place. Hopefully they just were having an off night and I wish them well.

There was a minimal wait and we were seated at one of the high tables. This was tough for our child as the high chair did not reach very high. Our older one was able to sit on the chair regularly but it was a precarious situation. The server was very attentive and we ordered off of their english menu which was a bunch of index cards with a hole punch and looped together. This place offers lots of healthy entrees. One of favorite (so much so that we ordered another portion) was the pork braised. It was so soft and tender and the sauce delicately bold. I knew nothing about it at the time, so I wasn't surprised later when I checked Yelp and saw how consistently praised it is. The restaurant sits directly across from the stunning Baroque San Luis de los Franceses (18th century). From the moment I walked in to ask about the menu and timing, the team was incredibly welcoming and patient, carefully explaining how everything works. We took a short walk to explore the neighborhood, got lost on the way back, and somehow found our way back just in time before the restaurant closing. Despite that, the staff remained warm and accommodating, especially when helping us navigate the wine and jerez selections. I was too tired and out of practice with my Spanish, so I reluctantly switched to English, and it was still completely fine. The food was outstanding, exactly as everyone says. There are no substitutions, and once you've eaten there, you understand why! Everything is intentional. They go out of their way to accommodate you within their philosophy and to make the whole "slow food" experience feel thoughtful, relaxed, and special.
