Finally visited the store 6 months later only to be told by the daughter that her mother, Carol, handles all business matters. Told to come back on Saturday. Upon our return, Carol swore she remembered us ( which was untrue b/c we'd never met), and said this was all a clerical error. She gave us a check for$100.00 and said to call back for the remaining balance. We've made multiple calls and left messages to no avail. Buyers and those seeking to purchase beware: this business and its owner are dishonest. You may get a deal on your purchase, but at the expense of those who aren't being appropriately compensated. read more

Unfortunately this was a bad experience! The female working during my visit was rude to me. She acknowledged all the folks walking in except me and made a point of making sure she did not interact with me at all. The store had 3 other shoppers and a couple of folks dropping off clothes so the store was not busy. I would not recommend this store as there is no customer service! read more

This is a great shop if you are buying. However do NOT consign clothing with them, the owner of this shop is a thief! I brought in several dresses, some never worn with tags on them, all high end brands in perfect condition. I stopped in a few weeks later and did not see any of my dresses, so I asked Carol if I'd sold anything. She went to her computer and said "no dear, just check next month." Then I read her reviews (too late) that said she is dishonest and does not pay her consigners what they are due. I kept calling on her until she paid me (about half of what I was due). I will never do business there again and I am telling everyone I know about her tactics. I have NO idea how this woman stays in business! read more

Just wanted to tell you fashionistas about the best consignment shop for clothing on the island. It's well kept secret for those of us who like high fashion at low prices. I have gotten amazing articles of clothing here over the years including some real designer finds. Thanks to the well-heeled ladies of HH who like to recycle and make room in their closets we treasure/bargain hunters can score fantastic clothes, shoe and accessories from casual to formal in a warm and friendly setting. Carol, the owner is wonderful and her assistants are always helpful and you become a friend after the first visit. You may not always find something but be persistent and you will be rewarded. Great items to shop. But, do not consign. Owner never pays you for the items you have consigned and on the form and account number she assigns. When you call the phone says "Do not leave a message". And, she never answers the phone. I moved and left items in June of 2021. Owner was aware of my moving and said she would send my payment to new address. She is all promises. I turned her consignment shop into the Better Business Bureau. She did not answer their complain either. Bottom line-she is running a business with the merchandise you leave for consignment, but she never pays you the portion you are owed. Free merchandise to sell. You would have thought I would have learned from my past experience in 2016-2017. Not paid for those items consigned either. Do not consign merchandise unless you do not want to be paid. This business is run in a dishonorable and disorganized fashion. If store hour's don't vary, their computer is invariably down. They never answer their phone. You may be told that someone will get back to you as to whether your items have sold but the follow up never happens. Ask what do the computer records show and you're told that your items didn't sell, yet they can't verify what items are the items on record. If you question this miserable chain of events they become the victim. It may be a great place to buy but not wise to deal with if you have items to sell. read more

After reading positive reviews I have twice now try to go to this establishment during published open hours. It's 3 o'clock on a Saturday and it's closed? Looks like they have cute stuff in the window and I probably would've bought several things but I can't when they're closed. This is a fantastic business with the best atmosphere for women's clothes! Prices are very fair and staff is always helpful. I have been consigning and shopping in consignment stores for years . What you must know is when u need to come back to get clothes that haven't sold. It is clearly spelled out on contract and is common practice nationwide. The store can't possibly keep track of all your items so the angry review I just read here is not the owners being dishonest. DO NOT CONSIGN WITH CHELLA D! I wish I had read other reviews prior to taking in a large amount of quality clothing (White House-Black Market jeans and clothing, Cache, Banana Republic, Talbots, J Crew, Sophie Max, INC, Gianni Bini, Liz Claiborne, Lands End, etc.). Many of these still had price tags on them! The White House-Black Market jeans were $169.00 each and I had 5 pairs. The Talbots sweaters were $79.00 each - and most had price tags on them. I had 8 sweaters. I had some beautiful lightweight seasonal knee length coats that were very expensive from all these vendors. Leather boots from Dillards that were brand new and in the box... 4 pairs of leather boots in total and 4 leather purses. I also had moderate clothing such as cardigans from Belk house brand, Cable and Gauge, some work-out wear that was also brand new from a generic brand through Kohls, and miscellaneous other pieces. The reason I had so much clothing to take in was that I had outgrown it in these past middle-age years. It broke my heart that no amount of exercise or diet seemed to whittle down the new shape of my body. So I finally relented and took my clothing to Chella D's after speaking with them They told me that they get shoppers from all over the country due to their location on Hilton Head so they can sell almost anything. I bought right into it. I took all my clothing to them. 89 items in total. 89. 36 items were brand new with price tags. And 6 Charter House cardigans were new and folded still in their plastic bags that they arrived in via an online order. Bringing the total of brand new items to 42. Almost half of my items I filled out the paperwork with the owners associate who told me that if I marked the DO NOT DONATE box I would get those clothes that did not sell back. I did that under the presumption that I could then seek out another consignment store and try again with whatever inventory I had that might be leftover. I did not hear anything from them for a very long time and I live 55 minutes from their store. Whenever I was in the Hilton Head vicinity I would check in and they would only have small checks for me. Finally I instructed them to gather all my belonging and I would take them back. That's when I was told by the owner that most likely all my items were gone and donated already - that it had been too long! I was flabbergasted! That was not my understanding of what her associate (and the only other employee I ever saw) had told me. She most assuredly told me I'd get my belongings back. The owner said that I had to have known that it'd been too long and that the items had been marked down and they'd never be able to locate them even if they were there... She said that had I read the agreement that I would have seen that they 1.) do not notify me when the contract is over (they'd never have the time to do that), 2.) at the end of the contract they become the property of Chella D, 3.) AND any item priced below $50.00 is not subject to return! Of course when you drop your clothing off you have no idea what she'll be pricing the items at. BEWARE! KEEP READING! In total - supposedly they only sold seventeen (17) of my items over a ten (10) month period. They did sell one of my $79.00 Talbots sweaters for $22.00. Thus it was always priced under the $50.00 threshold for being returned to me as per the contract as stated above. My take was $8.80 from that sale. The did sell a White House-Black Market jean for $17.80. My return was $7.12. Again it was priced so far below the $50.00 price point I never should have expected to see any of them again... Which I didn't. Overall - I was paid 109.40 for all my clothing. The owner did also give me $30.00 in cash my last visit when I was clearly unhappy with their method of business. Net return for all my clothing was $139.40. These ladies are thief's. Under the guise of a business. I had made an inventory of everything I took in to them and it never really matched their computer inventory of what they had of items in stock. I did receive some work-out items back, but it was clear that they never took them out of the bag that I brought them in with or out of their back room and so they were in tact but the least important and least expensive of my inventory. I did get some of my Talbots sweaters back miraculously. But they cut some of the price tags off. I read on another review that the staff was caught wearing a consignee's clothing. I can't help but wonder if this might have been the case here too. With the exception of the Talbots sweaters - I did not get any big ticket items back. Overall - I estimate that Chella D's did not return to me nearly $1,500.00+ worth of clothing in retail pricing. These woman are nice as can be when you enter the store but are grifters and will steal from you before you are out the door. DON"T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! read more

Not professional! Cheerfully accepts clothing for consignment, then " conveniently" loses items or denies having record of having received them! This warning is for consigners - BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU LEAVE ITEMS TO BE SOLD. My suggestion is to make an appointment to bring items in and stand there and watch them marked and put into inventory. I did bring in lots of items on several occasions and many sold but they LOST 20 pieces - among them some of the most valuable ones I brought in. READ your agreement carefully - they take no responsibility for stolen or lost items. 20 items speaks to total chaos or dishonesty. Agreement says after 60 days items may be marked down after 60 days. In my case a number of items were marked down before that period. I came in before 60 days to pick up unsold items rather than have them marked down. One of the owners told me I could leave them for another 3 weeks and they would not be reduced. WRONG - the other owner who is most unpleasant, decided to ignore her partner and sold things at 50%off. By the way, they put things on hold and then bring them out after the 60 days and sell them reduced. I suppose if you're a buyer or you want to shop lift, this might be a good place for you. read more
