She was not wrong. Not only can you deck out any type of Christmas tree you wish to have, they had a whole section that was very specific to door County and specific locations that they hand paint in the store. Of course, the one we selected had to be representative of sister Bay, Al Johnson's, and the goats as these are some of our most favorite memories from this trip. The gentleman working in the store was super friendly and helpful. Definitely put this one on your list so you can pick up a unique souvenir. They've also done incredible Work with the front entrance floral being so very welcoming. It says they are open 10 to 5 every day of the week. We were here on a Sunday.

I picked up a very nice glass ornament and was holding onto it. She aggressively suggested I put it in a basket. I took the suggestion and while I was walking around it was rolling in the basket. I didn't like that and didn't want the ornament to chip so I set the basket back and held the ornament again. Within a minute she was right where we were and rudely told me she was going to take the ornament from me since I wasn't using the basket. I explained that I felt it was safer in my hand than the basket and she insisted that it was better in the basket. Very unprofessional and rude. We stopped shopping immediately, paid for our ornament, and left. I did not appreciate being talked to or treated like a toddler.

But the owners were here with their infant when we stoped in just after opening on Sunday morning, and told us a bit of their story. Apparently the father of one of them started making lotion some years ago, and after a while they looked into lavender when trying to decide what they wanted to focus on for their family. Apparently the pH of the soil in Door County is perfect for this crop, so they planted over 5,000 lavender plants and started their empire. This sweet shop has just about anything you could want that's lavender-related. I'm sure most folks think of cosmetics and toiletries, which they have in abundance as you might expect. Lavender is actually not high on my list of favorite flowers or herbs because it is usually far too overpowering for me, but some of the lotions and potions they sell lean toward the mild side scent-wise, so if you have a similar sensitivity you may still find something you like. In addition to foods and toiletries, they also sell gifts, art, and household items as well. They've developed their own lavender lemonade; I love lavender lemonade so I bought five bottles and was not disappointed. What will be disappointing is finishing up the remaining bottles I brought home. They said they are working on getting it into some stores, such as Whole Foods (which might make me shop there). I came specifically to pick up some culinary lavender. I haven't ever used it before, but lavender lemonade is a favorite in the summer and I've been thinking about trying to make a simple syrup. Since this area is somewhat known for lavender, it seemed like the best place to get some to stock my kitchen cupboard. What they had here in the shop was picked three days prior by the proprietors themselves. I'll dry it out a bit longer and then debud it so it's ready to go when I feel like trying my hand at something new. Luckily, they also sell simple syrup here so i got that as a backup too--or alternatively I now can use the lavender buds for something else besides just making syrup. When I was telling the owner about my plans and excitement to try using the lavender in some cooking, they were kind enough to sneak in a second bundle of it. They have a partnership with a local confectioner that makes truffles with their lavender. I picked up three to take home--hopefully they'll make it!--and they were beautifully made. I also got a lavender shortbread cookie, which I took home to my significant other and heard it was excellent. This shop is worth a visit on your trip to Door County; even if you're not sure if you'd find something here, you might well be surprised, and it's a great place for gifts.

We would have…read morecookies and milk before bed then she would tuck me in while leaving the TV on so I could watch the Muppets. Her bedroom always smelled like lavender which is probably why I always slept so well there. Every time I smell lavender I think of her. As soon as we walked into Island Lavender thoughts of my grandma came rolling in. The whole shop smell amazing! There was every type of lavender product you could imagine and those I had never even dreamed of. I had to stop myself from buying one of everything. I did go home with Caramel Lavender popcorn, Lavender Lemonade, Lavender Cream Cheese, Lavender lip gloss, and an assortment of Lavender truffles. I could have spent all day there, but it's probably good we stopped on our way back to the ferry because I probably would have spent quite a bit more. The most unique thing I purchased was the Lavender Chocolates. I chose different flavors and they were all delicious. Just outside the door of the market they had these fun pictures you could pose in and this has to be my favorite pic of Leslie and I.

You can't go wrong with the authentic Swedish pancakes and lingonberries, and I think you get a great meal for the price. I also tried the Swedish Sangria made with Brut, Swedish Glogg & Fruit this time, and it was tasty! And then there are the famous goats on the grass-covered roof! Unfortunately, we arrived a little too late in the day and apparently the goats had already called it quits. We even walked around back looking for them! No goats, but we did get to see their little staircase leading up to the roof. Next time, we'll have to get there earlier! Whatever you do, don't leave without visiting the gift shop aka Butik! Give yourself some time because there is SO much to look at -- Door County souvenirs, clothing, ornaments, home decor, gifts and plenty of Al Johnson's goodies to take home. We loaded up on Swedish pancake mix, cinnamon sugar, Door County cherry jam and gifts for family and friends. I think I spent almost 45 minutes in there! After coming here for more years than I'm going to admit, Al Johnson's is still one of those quintessential Door County experiences. Come for the Swedish pancakes, look for the goats, browse the gift shop and enjoy a little piece of Door County tradition.

We stayed at the Dolce de Vista condo in the Meadow Ridge Complex outside of Egg Harbor. The…read morecomplex was clean and well maintained. The condo was beautiful, except for the scary clown artwork. The condo seems to be a new build, with great appliances. The beds were comfortable and the condo was clean. Communication with Simple Life was good. I received several emails with instructions for check in, garbage service, and check out. The condo is centrally located in Door County. The indoor pool is nice but they seemed to be making improvements to the outdoor pool, which was closed. It claimed to have a fitness center but it only had 4 pieces of equipment. The only negative things I can say about the condo was that is wasn't stocked with many necessities. I would suggest bringing your own towels. We were given 6 for 7 people. We couldn't find any dish towels. They had plenty of dinnerware but the coffee cups were tiny( more like espresso cups, so bring your own). There is a limited amount of serving dishes. We were given two dishwasher pods and laundry pods( once again, bring your own) and one roll of paper towels. There's no Kleenex provided. So while the place is lovely, just know that you will have to bring in some items. And the previous guests left there garbage in the garage. I communicated this to Simple Life and they responded immediately. I didn't want to be blamed for that. Overall, this is a clean, comfortable, centrally located condo. We would stay again and use Simple Life in the future.

We just had our daughters wedding up in Door County, Wisconsin this weekend…read more Upon check in to Our Lakeside Legacy House in Baileys Harbor Wisconsin, the door code they sent to us was incorrect. So, the problems started with terrible communication before we ven stepped foot into the door. I called, and called for 2 hours. No one mans there phone system, or lets say there is NO phone system. I was literally in tears, as we were hostiung a family dinner that was being catered. The caterers and I stodd outside, waiting and waiting. Finally after two hours someone called me back with a new code. Cimmunication is non existent, and I have asked them twice since our departure to have a management person call me, so I could address these problems verbally, rather than writing a negative review for them. . I tried emailing them twice after they kept asking for me to review them and the house..and no one has gotten back to me.. I never write reviews, but 7400 dollars for three nights. and no response, I need to warn other families.. Because it was our daughters wedding, I decided to splurge, and it was not easy to do so.. I had high expectations, And were very disappointed. Upon entering, the house smelled horrible, the entire place smelled of dust ad dirt, and very unpleasant. The caterers started to light the oven, upon opening the oven, it was FILTHY, looked like it hadnt been cleaned it 5 years. It was horrible to warm up our lovely food under these conditions. When we opened the cabinets to bring out glassware, there were dead flies and insects all over. The very very bad smells continued all over the upstairs too. There were old dirty wet towels in one of the showers. There was a mans pair of shoes saturated in DOG POO sitting outside the third floor balcony. Which was really gross to have to deal with . Very bad value for funds spent. WE are Wisconsin people and come and rent houses frequently in Door County, and have never had am experience like this.

It is a mix of "touristy" stuff like paper cocktail napkins with joke sayings on them and nicer things. The outdoor area is particularly nice with interesting glass garden art that I think would work best if you lived somewhere without too much wildlife...or storms...but it is fun to look at! The layout is a little maze-like, but that's sort of part of the fun in my opinion...the store just keeps going and going and going... Definitely worth going here rather than one of the purely "touristy items" places if you're looking for something to do on a day when the weather isn't fabulous!
