Lovely facility for any kind of gathering of any group of up to 150 or so. Our 45th Rockdale County High School Reunion was held there tonight. Great food was served. Plenty of servers attended us well. The large balcony allowed for lots of extra small group conversations, and nice spot for huge group photos. Clean restrooms, plenty of parking area. read more

Cherokee Run is A1. Definitely one of my favorite public courses in GA. I have played here probably close to a 100 times but I am always extremely excited when I have a tee time to play at Cherokee Run. They do book up quick on the weekends and the prices are starting to get pretty high. The course is located by the Georgia International Horse Park(if you have a chance tour the park super gorgeous). It is an Arnold Palmer(my favorite drink) signature course with some amazing holes! They have 18 holes and a great practice area. My favorite part of this course is how technical you have to play. So many holes require you to 100% play your shot for the next one. Their fairways are always well kept and the greens are decently quick. The clubhouse and staff is phenomenal. The food is always on point and the drinks are cool:). They serve one of my favorite golf course hot dogs!! Overall I'd highly suggest Cherokee Run as your next course of choice. It'll never steer you wrong. Just be careful and pay attention to each hole or else you'll have a long day. read more

Cherokee Run is one of the best public golf courses in metro Atlanta in my opinion. Among public courses, I would probably rank it in my top four with The Frog (Villa Rica), Bear's Best (Suwanee), and Chicopee Woods (Gainesville). Cobblestone (Acworth) and Heritage (Tucker) are knocking on the door. Overall, when you consider the course layout, conditions, clubhouse and amenities, staff, and value, Cherokee Run is a solid 4 to 5-star course. I'm giving them a 5. The course was designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay of the Arnold Palmer Design Group. It opened in 1995 and Arnie was there at the opening and played a round. The course is located next to the Georgia International Horse Park, which hosted events for the Summer Olympics in 1996, in Conyers, a suburb about 25 miles east of Atlanta. It's a hike from the city (at least a 35-minute drive from my home in Midtown), but the drive down I-20 is worth it. I first played this course in 2001. Since that time, the club has seen some hard times: "The course fell into disrepair and wound up in federal bankruptcy court; it took two years for the city to regain control of the facility, by which time it was on life support." After playing the course again somewhat recently, I can say it's back in great shape. Cherokee Run's zoysia fairways are among the best I've seen for any public course in metro Atlanta. The fairways were relatively lush and green without too many dry, brown, and/or dead patches. The greens are MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass. All 18 greens plus the practice green were in excellent condition. They were smooth and relatively fast. The only thing that could have been in better shape were the tee boxes, but at least they had a sufficient amount of grass to hit off of. There are 5 sets of tees. From the tips, the course measures 7,016 yards with a rating/slope of 75.1/143 (par 72). The course is very hilly with a lot of elevation changes, some blind shots, and many bunkers (96 to be exact). I would say this course is hillier than your average Georgia course. As far as blind shots go, the golf carts are outfitted with GPS computers so you can see where the group's carts ahead of you are on the screen. Not only that, but the GPS can tell you yardages from where you are to anywhere on the course. I think GPS in golf carts is super helpful for these reasons and they should be installed in carts at every course. The carts are Club Car (very nice) and each also comes with a ball washer and a club head washer. The course design and layout are challenging and beautiful. I wouldn't say this is a very tough course, but it's not easy either. It's ideal for most skill levels as long as you play from the appropriate tees. The fairways are tree-lined. It's a very woodsy course. Cherokee Run was not built in a subdivision or residential community, so there are no houses to be seen. On a lot of holes, you'll see natural granite outcrops. Sometimes, the rocks even come into play. There isn't a whole lot of water on the course. There are creeks and small ponds, but no scenic lakes or anything like that. There are, however, decorative fountains in the greenside ponds on the finishing holes (Nos. 9 and 18) of the front and back nines that are picturesque. I like how this course forces you to strategize or play certain shots on certain holes. No. 8 in particular comes to mind. This is a moderately long par 5 that measures 531 yards from the black tees (tips), 499 yards from the blue tees, and 481 yards from the green tees. You have to hit 3 good shots in a row in order to hit the 8th green in regulation. The landing areas for each of your drive, second shot, and approach shot are guarded by water/hazards. It's almost like hitting from one island to another. You really have to know your yardages on this hole, select your clubs accordingly, and strike each shot well. The driving range was in good condition. You hit off grass. A small bucket of balls (about 40 balls) costs $5 and a large bucket (about 70 balls) costs $7. There's a big practice bunker next to the range. It's good they have a practice bunker considering the number of sand traps out on the course. If you don't find sand at least once during your round, you're either skilled or lucky. Service is good from the pro shop staff to the starter to the beverage cart ladies. The beverage cart has reasonable pricing especially when compared to other beverage carts. At the time of writing this review, the regular weekend rate to play at Cherokee Run is $51.50 per person. I don't believe tax is included in that rate. I booked online for our foursome through GolfNow and after taxes and convenience fees, we paid $50.64 each. I had my 65th birthday all ladies brunch on the lovely, spacious verandah on the most beautiful September 4th, Labor Day Weekend 2021!! The event planner, chef, and staff were so accommodating to our every need and requests. All I had to do was pay and show up the morning of the party! Treveled down for the Masters with golf at premier courses on the way. This was NOT one of them. The course conditions were just terrible. Does grass go dormant in Georgia in the winter? Not yet recovered? That's the only reason I could think why the course was in such awful shape. (Maybe someone from the course can elighten me in this respect). The tees had no grass on them, there were bare spots all over the fairways and the greens were just awful condition. The course is extremely challenging. Especially the greens. Every putt has a pretty significant break. I don't mind getting beaten up by a tough course. But the course was just in disgustingly bad shape. And I can't get over the fact that I paid $100 for the privelege. I play public courses in better shape in PA for half the price. read more

Its true, the greens here are near perfect and slick like glass. Aug 19th, 18 holes @ 11am. Golfers know this is the witching hour. It takes special effort to drive this far to tee off at 11am. And yet.. despite the drive and tee time, this course managed to impress and snag 5 stars. This Arnold Palmer track is very good golf indeed. From check in , to tee box to greens, this course excels. It knows its business. It knows what a well groomed track can be and the team here puts in the effort to make it the best track possible. Kudos to the crew and grounds keeper here. Each hole is a story with twists and plots. It'll give you an easy drive with ample landing , but you'll have to finesse the next shot into a crowned green and steep false front. Every hole, .. gives and then takes away. Drive for show and putt for dough has never been more true. Greens roll true with deceptive undulations and slick like glass. The fairways are lush and spongy. Good drainage, no wet spots, and very durable, resulting in minimal divots on the fairway. At the turn, the clouds open up and we raced to the club house, just in time for lunch. So for a measly $10, I scored a delicious grilled chicken sandwich and beer. I rarely eat at the clubhouse, but this was actually pretty good. Bottom line, get out here, bring your A game, be ready to be whooped and have a good time. No, Cherokee Run isn't Pebble Beach or St. Andrews, but for a pretty low cost, this Arnold Palmer-designed public course has to be one of the best values in the Atlanta Metro area. $45 on a Saturday morning, with cart. - Pro shop service: no issues. Friendly, efficient check-in. - Range: right next to the clubhouse, hitting off grass with segregated boxes and a nice practice bunker, too. Practice green is next to the starter, so you can practice putting if you have to wait. - Starter: Also friendly and efficient. He provided key course information and a short tutorial on the cart's GPS device. - Carts: they have a cool GPS device! The touch screen shows where you are, the yardages to the hole and any place you designate, and even (in some places) where the carts in front of you are so you can judge whether to tee off on blind tee shots. - Tee boxes: I sometimes read criticisms of tee boxes from other reviewers, but frankly, all I need is a flat spot that will accept a tee. Here, the boxes are quite a bit better than that, so if you want to hit your irons off the grass, you will find a good spot. - Fairways: well-kept, challenging and most of all, varied. With each hole, I found myself checking the GPS device to see where to hit into (as if my drives were that accurate!). Lots of open fairways but many had slopes you had to pay attention to and fairway bunkers. I noticed my big-hitting playing partners sometimes did not pull out a driver even though the fairway looked open. - Bunkers: I only hit into one and the sand was quite playable. Some of the others looked a bit dicey. This might be the weak point of Cherokee Run. - Greens: Cherokee Run's greens are great. Most are quite fast and all of them had slopes and undulations that you definitely had to consider, especially when trying to get up and down. If you pitch to the wrong side of the hole, you'll have a very long putt. I like greens that make you think. - Hole design: I'm no expert or even close to it, but I think Palmer did a pretty good job making an enjoyable course that is playable by experts and duffers (me). Love the elevation changes. - Beverage/snack cart showed up a couple of times and has decent prices. Along with the great individual features of Cherokee Run, if you play here, you'll find yourself admiring the scenery a lot. many holes are just nice to look at. Clubhouse is nice. Wow what a great little gem in Conyers off I 20. A Arnold Palmer design, this course lives up to all expectations and beyond. $33 bucks on golfnow.com and worth every penny. Greens are perfect. Tee boxes are level and manicured. A tough course if you don't keep it in the short grass. These guys out here have spent some serious money in the last few years and it really shows on the course. . They also have a bar in the club house with a little hottie serving up shots of Jameson and yingling for $3 is definitely worth a break at the turn. Drink special was a John daley with vodka and lemonade. I didn't get one but I will next time. I recommend this course to anyone who plays golf well. They hold qualifying tournaments so this place is definitely legit. I also played a replay for $10 bucks. read more

This is hands down my favorite "Atlanta" course. Sure, I've not played every course but I have played a fair amount and my heart is always back at CR. The staff is absolutely amazing, Andy, Tommy and Greg are an amazing trio that always communicates in a friendly manner. One simply could not ask for a better pro-shop at a golf course. The actual course is pretty much in as good condition as you could ask for. The greens are super slick and the zoisia fairways are a real dream to play off of. The kitchen staff is fantastic. The ladies running the bar are friendly and the gentleman working the grill knows his craft. I really can't say enough about the whole experience. Folks do not put give enough credit to the experience of playing a golf course. CR has figured it out though. Played Cherokee Run yesterday morning (4/27). We teed off at 9:30 and got around in 3 1/2 hours. The course was in fantastic shape with a lot of recent landscape work that shows the management's level of commitment to the course. Employee service was great and greens fees are very reasonable. Still one of the best metro courses. read more
