It's a quaint little place. They try to bring in the spirit of an old south solarium in decor. Folksy photos and fresh flowers. They were breaking in new servers on my visit. Made things a little slower and added a little confusion but, forgive and forget. The apple pecan salad was a excellent. Crisp apples and pecan "dust" and I requested a lemon Basil dressing. Wife and kid both had sandwiches. These things were massive. Wife tried the meatball sub which was in her words "a whole lot better than expected" which came with half a family size bag of potato chips. I am sad I've missed out on this gem of a place in Kingsville for so long! This is a wonderful place to get a soup, salad, or sandwich. There are lots of tables in this place and they sell some random knickknacks too. Our group loved the chicken salad and the egg salad, along with the flavored teas. The service was friendly and fast. The highlight of the meal, most certainly, was the cake. We had the banana cake and it was by far one of the best desserts any of us had tasted. Great spot for lunch. Ok - first off, tea lovers, this is NOT a tea destination. The name is what lured me there, b/c I am a tea enthusiast. The Gift Shoppe part is more accurate, they had really fun hand made seasonal wreaths on offer which to me was the most impressive part of our visit. They also have a really cute back room that looks like they have partys and events in - so it's probably great for that if you're local. The tea - see my photo of the tea on offer. It's all boxed tea bags from Ahmad Tea. Sorry, to me this is nothing special. The food - PLENTY of salad and sandwich options and combos where you can get soup, salad and sandwich. I've had better, but if you happen to be in this part of Texas, maybe this is the spot? NO IDEA where the desserts were stashed. I love a sweet treat with my tea, and I inquired about scones - they had none, no desserts on the menu they gave us, no dessert display case, and no offer of a dessert menu. Hiding the good stuff? The gifts - CUTE handmade gifts on offer. There's a little section between the dining room and the back area with more to shop. The lights weren't on in there when we ate lunch, but it's worth checking out. I LOVE hand made items! The decor - needs some help, especially in the front dining area. Excellent food, excellent service... a one-of-a-kind place. A lot of the offerings you can't get anywhere else in town! I would be remiss if I did not mention the scrumptious, decadent, amazing, desserts that the Cherry Tree Tea Room has to offer, I would I could go on a lot longer, but I'll stop there as far as adjectives describing the amazing desserts not to mention the fact that they are also a gift shop. This place is perfect for baby showers, bridal showers, etc. It's also worth mentioning that they have a blue plate special daily. This place is great. They're one of the healthier spots to eat in Kingsville with a menu centered around sandwiches and salads. Their salad dressings are really good, and the sandwiches come with a choice of a small cup of soup, chips, or a salad. They have some unique sandwiches/salads, and the menu includes a "tea time" section. As their name implies, they also serve a variety of teas. They have a selection of homemade desserts as well, and I haven't disliked any that I've tried so far. Their specialty is the ooey gooey cake and it's very good. This restaurant overall is very cozy and welcoming. The staff are always very friendly. From their mini salt and pepper shakers to their gift shop area, the place is also super cute. read more

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Kingsville. My only complaint is that they're not open for dinner. Cherry Tree Tea Room has got it going on: The restaurant is absolutely adorable, clean, and homey. The tables are close together and the back of the restaurant has homemade wreaths, candle warmers, and some cute wall art. You feel more like you're at an aunt's country home than a restaurant. The service is phenomenal. I've been there three times and I always see the same two girls working. They're so friendly and are willing to swap out some items on the menu for you if you ask. I've had them put my sandwich between two pieces of iceberg lettuce instead of bread and they did so with no trouble. Watch out for these girls though...they somehow know when to offer you dessert from the cake trolley at that moment of weakness where you can't help but to choose a slice. The food is fantastic. The menu features lots of salads, sandwiches, soups, tea, and dessert. A rare find in Kingsville- where everything is deep fried and covered in greasy cheese. My favorite is the chicken salad. Leave room for dessert. You won't be disappointed. read more

I lived in Kingsville for almost a decade before moving to the Austin area. And I suppose in a food desert like Kingsville, anything that's not Jack in the Box tastes gourmet. First thing I'm going to tell you is that the over-hyped rating here and on Facebook comes from the much older crowd who like this kind of food. For a town acquiring a bigger and bigger college scene, the food has too small portions and too flavorless to appeal to the younger generations. The desserts are made early in the week and are completely dry by the end of the week. So if you came to eat on Monday, you may have had a good experience, but if you (like me) made the mistake of dropping by on the weekend do *not* order the dessert. We ordered a salad that included avocado and it came with no avocado. I didn't even want it sent back, just a little bit of avocado to be brought out to me, but the owner demanded it be brought to her so she could prove it was on there (it wasn't) and then she screamed at the poor waitstaff that I was trying to cheat her out of her money and proceeded to give me (1) tiny slice of avocado. Anyway, the soup tasted tinny, and the sandwiches are all something I could make at home. The place has a reputation around the college as a bad place to work, very little tips from the older crowd and the very...er...intense owner. Normally, I really wouldn't be this harsh on a small business but I have no mercy to someone who mistreats their staff. read more

I really liked the food here, their sandwiches were pretty good. The price was ok also. I came with friends and we all got different plates and sides. For some reason one of us got hot tea instead of cold tea so I would clarify that you want cold tea because this is a TEA place so they might not get that people want cold sweet tea. I absolutely love Cherry Tree. It's got a lot going for it: - It's downtown, in a cozy little nook. I wish I could say the same for a lot of other restaurants, because this location has the character that the rest of the city sadly lacks. - Amazing, amazing cakes. - Mouth-watering lunch fare that isn't Tex-Mex or a greasy burger. I usually opt for a soup and sandwich, and they've all tasted and are served wonderfully hand-crafted. The menu is extensive enough without being overwhelming. - Friendly waitresses who are on the ball even at lunch time. Now, when I first came here, I was really unimpressed by the service. It took the entirety of my hour lunch break to get half a sandwich. It was tasty, but I vowed never to come back during the lunch rush ever again. But its atmosphere can't be found anywhere else in Kingsville and promise of homemade sweets had me coming back again a few months later. Don't know what happened, but the kitchen efficiency hasn't been a problem and I've been a very happy patron every visit since then. The restaurant itself is a bit cluttered like grandma's old house, lots of endearing kitschy trinkets, and it feels kinda heavy inside for such a small dining space. At any rate, it's a warm and inviting place I wish I could visit more often, but they close quite early in the day (lunch service only). read more

I am in the Marine Corps and I used to go here all the time. I am back in town for the air show so I had to stop in and get a salad. I got there right as it opened, and they asked me to come back in 15 mins because what I ordered required a little more time. Totally fine but the server who took my order ( dark hair, thin, mole on her face) was clearly the most senior server but was super rude to the other servers. She talked down to them and I felt bad for them. I walked around for a bit and came back my food was ready and boxed up but I went to pay with American Express and they didn't take it. Again, totally fine, but the same server was very short with me and just all around not nice. I left grabbed some cash and came back. The chef (and I assume owner because she was talking about catering) was there and she is lovely and very nice. Bottom line: food is amazing (try the desserts) and MOST of the staff is nice. Avoid server with the mole. She definitely put a damper on my excitement to come back to this place after a couple years. read more

This might be the best restaurant in Kingsville. It's very cozy, and it's a great place to drink tea and chat with friends. The food is awesome too. I've only tried the beef sandwich with au jus and the pumpkin cake, but I look forward to trying other items on the menu. My only recommendation to the restaurant is to play a little background music. Cherry Tree is a quiet and quaint place (to which I adore), but it can get too quiet, and I'd prefer not to share my conversations with neighboring tables. read more

It isn't that the food is bad or the drinks are of poor quality, it is more that we were not able to experience those items at all. As a party of five, we waited in the door for anyone to acknowledge us. When one waitress finally did, we were told to sit anywhere. Could there not have been a sign posted providing such instructions? We chose a table and it turns out that we had some time on our hands. Immediate service isn't required, but some acknowledgement should be provided within the first five or so minutes of being seated. We left after approximately seven minutes, after witnessing waitresses clear away tables in a two thirds empty room rather than pause, greet us properly, at least deliver a menu, and then continue with their usual routine. I know, I know...we were probably too impatient for people who adore this place or those with more time to spend than we had, but with time on our hands, were able to size up our surroundings. Where we sat, in the corner near the window, had ceiling pieces molding and bulging down and honestly: a tea room should have a certain ambiance this one was missing those aspects. For those expecting prompt service, this is perhaps not the best place to visit. If you are expecting near-perfect decor and atmosphere, you also won't find that here. As for the rest, food quality, drinks, etc., other reviewers will be able to describe in better detail. read more

Pros: The food was pretty good. Cons: Management was horrible, rude, and did not seem to care about feedback from our meal at all. Service was incredibly slow, and it took nearly two hours to receive our food. I tried out Cherry Tree Tea Room with a group of friends and the service and staff were horrible. It was a busy time of day during lunch, but drinks were never refilled even after we asked, and half the table never received silverware. Our waitress was completely uninterested, it seems. Even worse, two lunches did not arrive until the rest of the entire table had finished eating. I try to be understanding and I know that lunch can be busy, especially with an unexpected group. The worst part of my visit was the management though! After our meal and I had already paid, I spoke with the manager. I did not ask for a comp or anything free. I only wanted to let her know that the service was not what my group or I expected. The manager was completely unapologetic, blaming us for not enough warning. She would not even acknowledge our complaints, and she would not accept our feedback. She was completely unprofessional and rude to us. The last straw, however, was when she talked to the next person in line about us before we had even left, saying that it was our fault for expecting too much! Very first time writing a review. Very disappointed in my club sandwich. Did not realize they used cold cuts to make their sandwiches. I assumed this place would be deli meats also the bacon was minimal , 2 shriveled pieces one on each side, 2 1/2" pieces of avocado on each side . Tomato basil was as good as always. I guess I will stick to their chicken salad next time . My husband's Open face roast beef was just as bad as club . Sadly disappointed. 2 stars is being génerous . And to find that in a quaint nook in Kingsville, is short of a miracle! I only wish I could transplant her to Austin! The customer service was horrible. The waitress could not remember any of the food we ordered or the drinks we had. I found hair in my food and the dishes here were disgusting. I had to ask for plastic ware because each time the silverware was brought out there was something stuck to it. The food we ordered did not look appealing it was just slopped together. We could tell the cashier was having a rough day as she did not look professional or act it either. She was not in a good mood and it was displayed in her customer service. We could also tell that there was tension between the cashier and the rest of her staff. This made for a very unpleasant outing. read more

I hosted a private dinner party for about 25 guests this past weekend at the Cherry Tree Tea Room. I was very unhappy about the service, quality of food and how I was treated. The owner and the waitresses were unprofessional, inattentive and just plain rude. Trying to plan a party with the owner (Amanda) was a complete nightmare. She was never available to speak to me about the menu, pricing or the actual planning of how the event will go. I personally visited the restaurant several times and was blown off every time. Also, every single time I went in they did not know who I was, they didn't have records that I was having a party there, they were just very disorganized. She just didn't care about planning the party. When we finally got around to discussing several menu ideas she never got back to me with price quotes when she said she would. Again, I had to hound her down and after being shooed away a couple times and just a week away from the party she told me the price and demanded that I pay her in cash that same day. (By the way, the manner she calculated her quote was completely opposite of what we discussed and much higher than what we discussed. I brought this up to her waitress, since at this point the owner herself was always too busy to speak with me, and her response was "You should just be happy because you are getting a good deal."). At this point, I felt I had no other options as invitations were already sent out, people had RSVP'ed and the party was just a week away. The night of the party my guests arrived on time and there were no servers to be found. I had to walk around the restaurant looking for one, finally I found one and had to ask them to start getting people's drink orders and appetizers out to them. (I shouldn't have to tell you how to do your job). The food was not ready and my guests had to stand around for almost 45 minutes for the appetizers. The appetizers were ok. Finally, dinner came out and I didn't think it was very good. I was very disappointed in the quality of the meat and I didn't like the flavor, it was rather bland. Again, the service was horrible. The servers would come out and plop the food on the table and disappear for the longest time. Drinks were not refreshed, I had to continually remind them throughout the night to ask my guests if they needed more to drink. Often my guests would ask for a drink and it would just never be brought out. I never saw the owner throughout the whole evening. I expected that she would touch base with me at some point to see if everyone was enjoying themselves or to apologize that the food was very late or even to ask how I wanted the evening to go (since she never bothered to take the time to plan that with me). But no, I had to work all these details out with the waitresses who were confused and didn't know what was going on. It was very disappointing. All in all, I wish I never had my party here. The whole night was completely stressful and upsetting. I probably would have had a much happier, more pleasant night going to McDonalds. If you are thinking about having a party, please save your money, sanity and happiness and take your business elsewhere. read more
