I don't know what's happening there in this past year, but what a change. No patient service at all, from doctors to phone calls. Put on hold for ever, just a birth date to them. Worst of all, my doctor left and I was not even informed that I would be see someone else, who turned out to be so arrogant. Made me feel like she was doing me a favor by seeing me. When I called to cancel, the response was, " I'll let them know". No inquiry as to why. Seems like team training has left the practice. I would never have run my practice like this. Let me start by saying that I have been (had been) a patient at Chesapeake Eye Center for over 16 years. Far longer than the current staff and Doctors now there, I was first a patient of Dr. Smoot, who originally started Chesapeake Eye Center. After Dr. Smoot sold this practice, I remained a patient there. This was apparently a mistake on my part. Before my recent appointment on 4/11/23, I had 3 appointments at Chesapeake Eye Center over the prior 6 months or so. On each of those appointments, I experienced very long wait times well beyond my scheduled appointment time. In one instance, I waited for approximately 35 minutes before being called from the waiting room. At the next scheduled appointment, I waited almost 45 minutes before being called from the waiting room. And on the 3rd scheduled appointment, it was just a few minutes under an hour before I was called from the waiting room. An HOUR! I was not the only patient to be annoyed by this, but I was the only patient to say something to the staff about it. When I said to the office staff at the counter, "An hour wait? Really? No problem, as long as I can show up an hour late for my next appointment and you'll still see me without any issue. No problem, right?" That was met with an utterly disgusted "Augh!" from a couple of the staff behind the counter. The nerve! How dare I, a mere patient, question the wait times? You know, "US", the paying patients. (aka "Customers") On my 4/11/23 3:00PM appointment, I was legitimately 15 minutes late due to road construction on Coastal Highway in Ocean City and also on Route 90 on that day. When I arrived, the receptionist at the counter was on the phone with a patient. We acknowledged each other and I sat down in the waiting room. 5 or 6 minutes later the receptionist had finished her call and waved me back up to the counter. My license and insurance cards were copied and the appointment was confirmed. There was no issue with my arrival time. I then went back to my seat in the waiting room. 5 minutes or so later, I was again called back to the receptionists window, but this time by a different office staff member standing behind the first one, and told that my appointment would need to be rescheduled because I was 30 minutes late. I explained that my appointment was at 3:00 PM and it wasn't even 3:30 yet. Furthermore, I arrived at 3:15, not 3:30, so I wasn't 30 minutes late, but only 15 minutes late. Made no difference to this other staff member, my appointment would need to be rescheduled. (You could tell that even the original staff member who had checked me in was very surprised by this, just from the look on her face) Seems pretty clear that this was "payback" for my comment weeks earlier about the ridiculous wait times. So professional. I declined making another appointment, and asked that the "principle" of the practice (Dr. Jason Yonker) contact me at his convenience, so that I could discuss this with him. I have not heard from him or anyone else at CEC, which speaks volumes about what they really think of their patients. "Rules for thee, but not for me" sums it up pretty well. Remember, THEIR time is valuable, YOURS is (clearly) not. If this is how you are treated with appointments, imagine how you will be treated if there is an issue with the "care" you receive. There are far better options in the area, where they value and appreciate their patients. This is NOT the same level of care and appreciation for patients that Dr. Smoot once provided. TLDR; Extremely long wait times. Patients treated as if they don't matter. read more

I had cataract surgery in both eyes and had an excellent experience at Chesapeake Eye Center. It was the easiest surgery I've ever experienced. Dr Sim is wonderful, she takes the time to listen to you and answers your questions. She called me the afternoon after both of my surgeries to see how I was doing! And the outcome of the surgeries was excellent!! I definitely recommend Chesapeake Eye. read more

Be mindful of what you ask for when making an appt. all I wanted was an annual eye exam. I was mistakenly and unknowingly given an ophthalmologist that is considered medical. I waited two hours and received the exam, however my medical did not cover. if I had seen an optometrist it would have been covered with no copay. Turned out I paid $150! Very upsetting. Stacy felt it necessary to tell me several times that since I saw a medical Dr there was nothing she could do. very unprofessional. Intentionally deceitful. Would never return. read more

I cannot believe how arrogant Dr. Voss was during my appointment. I was back for a glasses re-check because the prescription was off. Long story short, it was all my fault, was arrogant and condescending and had no patience for my issues. In addition, I had glasses made there, too, which were originally progressives (and no one had said I was not eligible for them) and now doing bifocals which are cheaper. Will not give me a refund for the difference. NEVER GOING BACK. read more

My elderly grandmother was a long time patient of Dr. Yonkers. She passed away several months ago and upon notifying the office, personally, they were nice enough to issue a partial refund on brand new glasses she had purchased a couple of weeks prior to her death. However, several months later they sent a notice in the mail that she had missed an appointment. I called the office and spoke with Wendy to restate my grandmother was deceased. At which point she asked me to hold so that she could "look into it" I tried to explain that she was indeed dead and there was no point in me holding. To which Wendy responded by hanging up on me. In addition, several months ago, I had spoken with Wendy regarding an insurance issue and she stated "there was no one in the office who handled insurance claims." WHAT? Wendy, you are lucky you don't work for me as you would be out looking for a new job right now. Hopefully, the office manager, Christine will handle this situation as promised. read more

I have had my annual eye exams at the Berlin MD office of Chesapeake Eye Center since 2010. Dr Jason Yonker, MD had been recommended to me by a Walmart Vision Center as they were concerned about my eye pressures (father had glaucoma). I have been highly satisfied with the care and detailed explanations of various vision problems people my age encounter. While the Berlin office is a busy one, all employees are very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. There is also no pressure to purchase necessary eye glasses at the adjacent optical center; I like that. If you ask, they even give you a printout of your complete vision exam results, not merely the prescription for eye glasses. I have some cataracts (are in my 80s) and had lots of questions, such as the advantages of Laser-assisted surgery, at my annual exam a few days ago. Dr Yonker and an amazingly knowledgeable assistant/technician Karly Bolon were so patient to explain the many details. Karly was also very patient and caring doing the Refraction procedure (the 'is no 1 or no 2 better') which is so important to get you the best prescription for your eye glasses. I read a lot, are on my computers much of the day - and really appreciate such professionalism. Chesapeake Eye Center also has an office and surgery center in Salisbury, MD. read more

I've been to several eye doctors in the area and these guys are by far the most professional and friendly. They squeezed me in because I was having a problem, didn't make me wait, then even let me do my follow-up visit at their office in Millsboro since it was easier for me. Fantastic! read more
