The marker reads, "On Oct. 5, 1780, about 1400 militia, including many riflemen, camped 1 mi. S. at Alexander's Ford and there turned toward Kings Mountain." Online, there is more information. "Some of the best Patriot riflemen were the Overmountain Men encamped at Alexander's Ford. They were preparing to proceed onward to meet the British and Tory forces in Ninety-Six, South Carolina. With the arrival of new intelligence describing the whereabouts of Major Patrick Ferguson's force, the Overmountain Men changed their course and headed toward the Charlotte, North Carolina area. This decision ensured that Patriot forces during the Battle of King's Mountain possessed some of the best riflemen in a turning point battle. From then on, revolutionary forces had the upper hand in the Southern theater of war." This is marker number O-84 and it was erected in 2021 by the North Carolina Office of Archives and History. I driven by here in my car and never really gave a serious thought that it was real! It obviously serves the local and small community of Mayo, S.C. Every person there knew each other with greetings!

Even if there is a wait, you are always greeted with the friendliest and helpful postal worker, Dee. She is knowledgeable and always makes your experience a pleasant one. I no longer dread the post office.

Other than the fact that I possess a much different view and religious belief than these folks do (…read more and that's pretty common amongst all different religions) I can find no fault with this group. They are good neighbors and stay mainly involved with each other! I do find some of the things they do to be a bit contradictory. Who hasn't been visited by a couple of their young disciples well dressed and riding bicycles? And guess what? They do a high level of recruiting and witnessing that other faiths could learn some lessons about! I do find some of their beliefs a bit odd however! The JW's are strongly encouraged not to join groups outside of their faith and are discouraged from attaining higher education- college! Blood transfusions are not permitted even to save a person's life! In this I beg to differ! Like I said earlier in this review; you could do worse for neighbors! At least these people intend to do you no harm! I would advise anyone approached by these folks to ask them to return in a couple in months; that is if this religion interest you. The marker reads, "According to family tradition, this house was built in 1854 by the Bivings family, local textile pioneers. In 1869, the house was purchased by John H. Evins (1830-1884), Confederate Lieutenant-Colonel, state legislator, mayor of Spartanburg, and US Congressman (1877-1884). The house was placed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1970." The house is a two-story white clapboard structure in the Greek Revival style. double piazzas with massive Doric order columns and notable balustrades. The children's section is huge and quite awesome. They check out about 20 books every two weeks and we use them for bedtime stories. During the summer months, when kids are out of school they have story hour and different presentations. Last summer the children's museum in Rutherford came and did a bunch of kid friendly hands on experiments. This library is about much more than books; it's a part of the community and a great supporter of education. Check their website for program times and dates.

Since my wife of many years told me that I didn't have a clue about what romance is; I've decided to self- educate myself! Every a senior citizen like me can make improvements! This book was not in our local library today but I'll check back with them soon! Nice and friendly folks work here and that's a good thing when a guy intends to read a Danielle Steel novel!
