During the two and a half years that my husband received treatments from Dr. Patel we were pleased with his treatments and liked him personally. The wait was sometimes long, but we were there for treatment so put up with it. In the spring of 2024 things changed and appointments started to be cancelled with very little notice. We were on the way there when the first one happened. The explanation was that they didn't have the medication for the injection and to reschedule. This happened a second time and put my husband a month behind on his scheduled injection. My inside source told me that the practice was having trouble paying for the meds they used and insurance payments were not enough to cover the cost. And the pharmacy that supplied the drugs wouldn't do so until the practice paid their bills, which were in the thousands. There seemed to be some scheme to get the patients to pay for the injection medication, which was the new drug Vabysmo and have it shipped to the doctors office. Then the patient was to try to get the money back from the insurance company. Weeks went by and no one would talk to us about what was going on or tell us what to do. Many calls to the Circleville office and promises made and NOT kept, that they would get back to us. But they never did. We made one last appointment to try to talk to the doctor about what we should do. He, Dr.Patel, left the room and sent a lady in to tell us the upcoming visit for an injection was cancelled and did not tell us to make another. So we left and waited and waited and waited some more to be contacted. My husband is now two months behind schedule for his eye injections. luckily we had made a previous appointment with another doctor connected to the Ohio State University Hospital, so went there in July. We had made this appoint a few months earlier when it became apparent no one was going to contact us from Eye Specialists, Inc. We will never know the true or complete story of this fiasco and the, what we feel, was the complete abandonment of a patient by this doctor. My husband and I were very lucky as we had some inside information about what was going on and advised us to get out of the train wreck that this practice was headed for. I would not advise anyone to go to this fiasco of a medical practice. I did write a short letter to Dr. Patel advising him that my husband would not be his patient anymore, but I doubt he ever saw it as it was likely discarded by the office staff. The offices became dirtier and dirtier each time my husband went there. The staff in general were not top notch and obviously afraid of losing there jobs if they gave out any information about the new insurance scheme. In retrospect, I really don't think they had any information. We liked Dr. Patel, but in the end, Eye Specialists really let us down!! We would encourage people to think twice and then think twice again about ever using Eye Specialists, Inc.

That's when we found out that because he wears contacts, they charged him for an eye exam AND for a contact exam?!?! Never heard of such! We've gone to Pearle Vision and other Eye Specialists in Columbus and have NEVER been charged for two eye exams. We asked for the contact prescription, and got the same response as the lady above. They didn't really want to give it to us and wanted us to order the contacts through them. That said, they did find an issue with his eyes and the contacts that they finally found worked for him. Jury is still out on what we'll do next year. We'll go to this eye specialist and see what happens there.

First off - if you're trying to get the "$250 per eye" price they advertise you have to have a very minor prescription. Most don't. It's not false advertising and they put those details in the fine print like every other advertiser. The facility is very nice and well kept. The staff are all very friendly. The day of my consultation they were very thorough in explaining the procedure and answering my questions as well as performing the exam to ensure that I was a good candidate for Lasik. The only thing I wish they'd warned me about before the consultation was that I'd be dilated. On the day of the procedure the three or four nurses in the procedure room were awesome. They talked to me though the entire surgery, which took less than 10 minutes from start to finish and the the "work" on my eyes was less than a minute per eye. The doctor was SUPER personable and you could tell he truly cared about his patients. He's performed Lasik over 108,000 eyeballs!!! I can still see, though my eyes are watery and sensitive, and the surgery was basically painless. There were a few moments things were "uncomfortable", but not bad at all!

I left my place of work and arrived at CEI Blue Ash at 9:25am for a 9:30am appointment (I had completed their pre-registration process several days before). A large sign said "Please wait to be called" so I stood at the sign for about 30 seconds. A lady at the nearest (corner) desk called me over, took my name and birth date, and told me to have a seat and wait to be called back. All good. Sixty-five (65) minutes later, after I had watched about 3 cycles of patients come and go from that first waiting area, I approached the desk and asked a different receptionist if there was a problem. She once again asked for my information and, after looking me up on the computer, said, "It says here that you were marked as a NO-SHOW." Are you kidding me? It was incomprehensible to me that the waiting room had filled up and emptied out 3 times, yet not one of the 3-4 receptionists sitting ten feet from me had the presence of mind during their down time to pick up on the fact that I had been sitting there for a VERY LONG time. This post is about more than just my experience today. At 52, I would guess (based on 65 solid minutes of observation) that I am at least 20 years younger than the average age of their patient population. These folks have far more serious eye problems on top of other physical limitations and needs (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.). If it happened to me, it can happen to any of them, which could carry far more serious consequences and liability. Today's negligence aside, I have always felt like CEI is somewhat of a meat market that just wants to keep billing my insurance and collecting copays on the regular. I have borderline but normal eye pressures, yet they keep scheduling 6-month appointments to check them like I'm half blind. The whole operation has a retail shopping mall vibe, which raises my suspicions that they are over-booking me just to keep their revenues up. They really should be investigated. Patients beware.
