Location is ideal as it close to the beach and the bed is extremely comfortable. However it fell short for the following reasons: 1. Tap Water is yellow & dirty 2. Shower water only stays hot for 5 minutes 3. Coffee is disgusting 4. Door to room is difficult to open & close 5. Our bathroom door did not close all the way let alone lock 6. No iron in room at arrival and the ironing board was stained. 7. Landscaping needs attention 8. Check out is 11:00 am. Late check outs are an additional $15 an hour....no thank you! 9. Room was never attended to. Towels were never replaced in a four day period. For the prices we were charged we expected much better. We will consider other resorts in the vicinity on our next trip to this area. read more

Last year I booked a trip to the Fort Lauderdale and was scheduled to go in early May. Unfortunately, my elderly Mother landed in the hospital with acute kidney failure. Needless to say, I had to cancel my trip. I received credit from the airline and car rental for the trip. However, I did not receive anything from the hotel. I lost 50% of my stay, over $500. Keep in mind, May is shoulder season and the hotel was not full. I totally understand having a 50% cancelation policy in the height of the season, but 50% in May? Unreasonable and greedy! Please read the cancellation policies at these small hotels. I will likely book at a Marriott next time!!! To be fair, they did give me 90 days to use the deposit money, but when traveling out of state, it was difficult to plan another trip. read more

Cheston House My spouse and I recently spent a week at this gay guesthouse. Its​ location is ideal, being a block from the beach and a short walk more to the local gay beach. It's away from the hubbub of the city. Nearby are many fine restaurants, mostly in large hotels. This is an older property, like other guesthouses in the area. It's well maintained and the rooms are redone to an artsy-deco look. We found housekeeping to be near perfect. Lots of attention to detail. The staff was friendly and helpful in many ways. A gay guest house that offers clothing optional pool area that now is more like a peeping-tom's heaven as the Hilton and W hotels just opened down the street looking straight into the pool area as well as the new condos across the street with windows facing the pool. I even saw one guy with binoculars from the hotel looking our way. I kept my speedo on... Anyway, the room was nice and big with a fridge, microwave and nice extras such as VCR and DVD player with movies available for checkout in the office. Some of the channels were not working well in the room and don't know if it was our room or the cable system. But the free open-bar happy hour was good (we probably got our money's worth there!) with red and white wine available as well as beer. Full bar available in the high season. Breakfast was good with a selection of breads, cereals, juices, coffee, tea and muffins. One public computer with a printer available in the office but wireless is available if you bring your own. The biggest seller of this B&B is the location... with only two blocks away from the beach, tons of restaurants and even the bus runs along ocean view drive to take you to Las Olas. It is a short ride from the airport but do not take a taxi as it will cost $25 . Best option is to take the GO shuttle located in the airport ground transportation area which only costs $11. Will stay here if need be, but other cheaper B&B's around the area that offer the same for less would be my first choice. read more

The Cheston House is actually a gay guest house, somewhere between a hotel and a bed & breakfast. Fourteen rooms all overlook a small heated pool, about two blocks from Ft. Lauderdale beach and a five-minute drive to Las Olas. There are smaller guest rooms (with private baths), suites, and one-bedroom apartments. Most people come from the North for a week or so to enjoy a resort-type vacation, rather than a quick trip. A small breakfast is included, and happy hour features an open bar at 5 p.m. every night. There's a very friendly, social atmosphere in the common areas, and the guests, likely all gay men "of a certain age," introduce themselves and socialize a bit. I made reservations for New Years Eve weekend months in advance and when I arrived my room wasn't ready and had to go and get lunch somewhere nearby to wait for the room. Days later I asked the owner for a late check out on New Years Day and while he said yes, and later confirmation from the manager on duty, they told me to leave the room in front of other guests while I was enjoying the pool. Not a very professional thing to do. In addition, another guest staying there told me he woke up with bug bites which I can easily assume were bed bug bites. I tend to give my money to the local gay businesses but this is one I will not. read more

This is my third stay at a gay owned hotel in Ft Lauderdale and I must say, this was my favorite. The Cheston House is wonderfully located two blocks from the beach. The rooms are huge and fairly modern looking...nice decor. There is a lovely heated pool and the courtyard area is completely private. It is clothing optional for those who enjoy 'natural' sunbathing, not a bad option. There is a nice continental breakfast with really good coffee included as well. Chuck, the manager of Cheston House could not be any nicer or more accommodating...a wonderful man. What an amazing experience... we stayed at Cheston House before embarking on a cruise from Port Everglades. The staff are personable and helpful. The guests were friendly as well, with no attitude. The grounds were well kept, with some pretty hibiscus flowers in bloom. Our suite was spacious and comfortable (the interior was a bit dated and not perfectly kept up, but that didn't impact our stay). As other reviewers mentioned, free happy hour drinks certainly made us happier. The outstanding thing about Cheston House is really the service. The staff were helpful beyond measure, never rude or too busy for us, and even invited us to come back at no charge after our cruise to hang out during our long layover before our departing flight. They really made our stay and our trip much easier than it would have been had we stayed somewhere else. read more

We were able to get a last minute reservation here when our other hotel fell thru. Staff is extremely nice and helpful. Room was a bit small but we managed. My first visit to a clothing optional resorts and I did feel comfortable being nude in the pool, even with my small penis complex! We will certainly visit again! read more

We stayed at the Cheston House for six days and it was a wonderful experience. Kudos to Lawrence for checking us in and helping us out during our stay. The grounds was beautiful and the pool was the perfect size. Not too small and not too big. We stayed in room 25 which is almost an apartment. Living, dining, kitchen and one bedroom. Large windows that looked out over the pool. Fantastic. I know some people on here have complain about the staff but we didn't find they anything but helpful and friendly. (bitter old queens must have wrote those reviews) Only two blocks from the beach. Perfect location but you do have to pay for parking while you're there. read more

Very happy to get a last minute room. Room was very clean and well maintained. Bed was on the soft side for my preference. Property was clean and orderly. Pool was heated to a pleasant temp and was very clean. They are still recovering from hurricane Irma and the plants and trees are still coming back, but you can see that staff has worked hard to get back to normal. All rooms were booked. We hung by the pool for most of the day and it was really nice. A nice mix of guys, mellow music, no attitude...a nice afternoon. read more

Imagine this. A group rents out the whole guest house, all of the rooms, and then they are told if they bring a guest to the area, or to their room they need to pay a guest fee. You could count the amount of people that were guest that did not have a room because of the policy of the OWNER. We can not blame the worker, or the manager CHUCK, but we need to blame the OWNER of the place, shame on you. When a place rents out your whole place, you do not charge a friend to come. First it was $15. for the day and $20 for the evening. This was a 3 day affair so that would be $105. but they were "nice enough" to bring it down to $85. I really wanted to have fun with the people at the place for all of the days but I could not afford the high prices. At least they let my friend, the birthday boy in for free because if I had to pay for him too, I do not even know if I could have afford to go in for one day. They were even charging $8. if you wanted to bring a bicycle on to the property, or $10. to park a car. We both ate before, but the price of dinner was descent, but still can not get over charge guest that come after the group rented out all of the rooms. I hope they look other places before booking there again. They get one star because they let the birthday boy in for no charge, but make sure its your birthday if you want to go there. What a great find. Its a cool quaint, place, clean and cozy. The Manager / Owner Chuck couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and even let me check in early. The room was just right and the pool was clean and tropical. Nice lounge chairs, fresh towels, a nice sound system. Really good vibe. I'm giving Cheston House 5 stars for overall value. The staff is superb. Some of the larger places could learn a thing or two about hospitality from the lads at Cheston House. At Cheston House you'll find a variety of room sizes. The apartment units are spacious and include a full kitchen and dining area. You can also have the 1 bed unit next them to form a 2 bed 2 bath unit. The pool is quite large and heated. The pool area has tropical landscaping, whimsical lighting, and plenty of loungers and tables. There's a nice mixture of sun and shade, too. At this time Cheston House is undergoing a refurbishment. The place does need a bit of a facelift and I'm happy to see that they've made good progress since my last visit. I've found the guests to be warm and friendly and it's a great place to meet new friends. You'll often find yourself invited to join others for dinner. It's a low-key place, well run, and a great location, just 2 blocks from the beach. read more

A group of 8 of us stayed here for a long weekend. We had 3 rooms. The resort is pretty and the location is good. The rooms are simple. It was clean. There was good water pressure and hot water and I liked the shower head. There are only window units which worked well and wasn't too noisy. The pool had been damaged in the hurricane and was closed but we were able to use the pool at The Worthington (which is beautiful and the pools and hot tubs were very nice). Chester House does not have a hot tub. My biggest complaint would be the bed, the whole group shared the sentiment. The beds are VERY soft. I'm usually not too picky about beds and I don't think it was old but I'm 145 lbs and so is my BF and we sank into a deep hole and woke up with aching backs. The comforters are also very thick and warm. I wouldn't stay again just because of the mattresses. That said the staff were very friendly and it's close to the beach. read more

I do NOT recommend them. I was told they were booked up and only had two rooms left. And of course it was the two most expensive rooms left. we get there and only 5 rooms were occupied. Secondly the room that we paid more money for did not have adequate AC. it was not a good experience. They lied to get more money and then the hotel was empty. I will never stay there again nor recommend them to anyone. read more
