    Allsup's Convenience Store

My husband tried the chicken nuggets and fries and enjoyed it. This location was a well stocked with clean bathrooms and friendly staff. They're open all night except 12:00am - 12:30am. We're just passing through and there doesn't seem to a lot of options here, in Loving, to stop for rest and food; so I'm glad it's here and to have had a pleasant experience!

The company occupies the…read moreindustry rung just above old-timey run-down Mom-and-Pop gas station & soda pop shop, well below the gleaming beautiful well-lit mini shopping mall and food court type corporate filling stations and convenience stores that proliferate the countryside. If you aren't familiar with Allsup's, you'd never know they are a heavy weight enterprise in the desert, probably the most recognizable corporate name in New Mexico. Allsup's is a study in marketing genius. The outdated look, low ceilings, older fixtures, narrow aisles, crowded merchandising, etc. are all by design to give customers the feeling they are getting a bargain. When you go to a garage sale, you naturally just assume you're getting a good deal without even thinking to compare prices with a store down the street. How do I know this? Because several years ago I interviewed for an Executive position with Allsup's, and the company President told me. (No, I didn't get the job, but I still think Allsup's is a great company with a valid and successful theory about how to take advantage of this marketing approach.) One thing Allsup's has that no other gas station or convenience store can match - their cheap and delicious fried burritos. Are they a perfect late night snack? Yes. Are they great for breakfast? Yes. Do they satisfy a mid-afternoon snack craving? Yes. I purchased the green chile chicken fried burrito (one of several different flavors) and it truly hit the spot - spicy, crunchy, flaky, and delicious! I'm going to rate Allsup's three stars. However, this rating does not mean Allsup's is doing anything wrong and it certainly won't motivate them to do anything different or make changes to achieve five starts. Three stars is what they are, and three stars is exactly what they want to be.

The cashier was stocking items when I walked in yet didn't say hi or smile at me. He was rather methodical checking me out with three large Seven Select PURE waters ($2.49 each or 2 for $3.50). I would have picked up some burritos to go, but the food already looked hours old plus whoever was working back there never came to see me at that counter. The restrooms are cleanish and the staff is friendlier across the intersection. Go there instead!

What he actually found is that this is the last gas for over 70 miles so we had to turn around and head back here to fill up. That explains why the price here is higher than the surrounding area... You pretty much have to stop here if you need gas in the area. I went inside to use the restroom and I cannot speak to the men's room because there were big yellow cones around it and signs saying it was shut down , but the lady's room was absolutely disgusting. Open garbages with used feminine hygiene products visible, incredibly dirty, toilet paper all over the floor, etc. I will say that when I walked out, the lady behind the counter was nice and seemed genuinely friendly, if not overwhelmed. Still, if you have the gas to make it to the next station, I suggest you keep on pushing.
