This airport is small but very nice and easy going, staff was very friendly and helpful, parking is free which is great, would go again!

This is a VERY small airport by anyone's standards, but for it to be the main airport for the capitol of Wyoming, Cheyenne is sad. They have one person working the check in desk. On security person and a walk through scanner. There is a cinder block building for a waiting area that only recently received vending machines. The employees are nice, just few and far between. God help you if you have any problems with your flights because this is it as far as who can assist you, too. read more

Travel salvation has come to Cheyenne in the form of a single flight to DFW, in order to get the residents of Cheyenne and the greater area to a major airport for connecting flights. Following the stunt pulled by Great Mistakes Airlines in March, Cheyenne was left without any commercial air service. Previously, CYS was able to offer a flight to DIA. As someone who visits northern Colorado frequently, I've often kept my eye on CYS as the best alternative to the hassle of Denver International Airport. I was very encouraged when I learned about American Airlines stepping in to offer a flight out of town. Although going through DFW to get to your final destination can be seen as inconvenient, it's no more inconvenient than the time it takes to drive to Denver and deal with all the drama going on down there. The terminal is brand new. According to Cheyenne Regional Airport's website, you are welcomed to this brand new terminal to, "Shop, Dine and Relax." (http://www.cheyenneairport.com/terminal) I can think of at least two things wrong with that invitation. At this time there are no shops and no restaurants or cafes. There is, however, a convenient (and complimentary) coffee bar. I was hoping that a new terminal would also bring jetways to the gates. CYS is not there yet. The future of this airport and its potential is bright. I urge the citizens of Wyoming to book, book, book, so this operation can grow and offer more flights. The three star review is more or less based on my ongoing experience with the TSA. Even having a TSA preCheck credential has not made this experience easier. On one occasion, half the passengers going through security were "randomly flagged" for enhanced screening. On my most recent flight, my carry-on was pulled during screening and the TSA must have taken 10 minutes to handle it. Note, my usual carry-on has never been pulled at any other major airport. While you're not waiting in lines at CYS, the TSA makes up for this by screening at a glacial pace. As the TSA becomes more experienced at CYS, I'm hoping they can increase their throughput. Upon my arrival at home, I had also noticed that my checked bag was "inspected" by the TSA at CYS. Again, my checked bag (which is consistent), has never been pulled by the TSA at other major airports. I can only chalk this up to the TSA being extremely board, or dedicated to screening overkill. read more

This airport is pretty much an airfield with one security checkpoint. There's maybe one...possibly two security officers (Edit: I stand corrected, there were at least 4 security agents, and yes, I did win the free pat down) and one or two people behind the ticket counter. The only airline that flies through here is Great Lakes Airlines. That being said, this is still better than some of the huge airports that others are used to. Even though this is the smallest airport I've been to, they still have free wi-fi. You hear that BWI? Free freakin wi-fi. I'm pretty sure I'm sitting next to the pilot who's gonna fly me to Denver right now as I type this. The staff here are extremely courteous, especially the people at the ticket counter. Granted, if you fly into Cheyenne, they may not have enough room for you and your luggage on the same plane, but when your luggage gets in, the staff are pretty flexible about getting your luggage to you. Your dining option is the Cloud Nine Restaurant and Bar. The food there is good. Had a BLT and sweet tea. Plenty o' bacon. Great service. The airport experience can basically be summed up in two words: good people. read more

They built a new terminal, but the only flights are to Dallas. It's just not cost effective to fly out of this city and hasn't been for over 10 years. It is just easier to drive to Denver and park at the telephone lot to be honest. I work for the government, and when I have to go on work trips there is NEVER a flight listing out of Cheyenne because it's not cost effective at all. read more

This airport is tiny so don't expect much ! One security checkpoint, one car rental counter and 2 airlines that run flights out of here. It may not be much but I've found the employees to be helpful and happy to do their job and that makes me a happy traveler ! read more

The new terminal is a great asset to the community. Being able to travel around the country without having to make the 90 minute drive to Denver and pay for parking that is miles from the terminal is so nice. I left my house and was at the gate waiting for the plane in roughly 15 minutes. I will use this airport as often as I can. read more

It's a "new" terminal but already seems outdated, apparently the architects have never been to a working airport terminal before. There are no services, and flights only go to DFW. read more

When is Cheyenne going to get a useful airport? This airport is pathetic for any capital city! If I book a trip out of Cheyenne it will just fly me to Denver International to take the trip from there for four times the cost of me just driving the two hours to Denver and then flying out of DIA. I was on a United flight that got diverted to Cheyenne because of bad weather. Plane of about 75 people. *(Apparently it was Republic Airlines. But it was a United plane, with United flight crew, and a United safety pamphlet. The buck has to stop somewhere). United literally drops us off, and the pilot and the rest of the crew disappear on some other plane out of there. Originally we were diverted because of weather, then when we land, the pilot changed his story a few times as to what was going on, which I understand happens, but he sounded like a dis-interested college student in a job interview at McDonalds. Been flying my whole life and never heard a pilot speak as unprofessionally as he did. I'll never forget it. We WERE diverted because of weather, but then we were going to re-fuel and fly back. Then he said the flight was cancelled. Then he said another plane was coming to pick us up. Then he just said we need to get off the plane. Lastly, he states he's hit his limit for flying time and has to stop for the night. (This all occurs in about a 10 minute span). A pilot is going to know how many hours he's logged, so I call B.S. on that story. If he would have said that first, it would have been believable, but not when it's the last excuse. This was a Wednesday afternoon at about 2 or 3pm, and there seemed to be ONE person working at the airport, and he was probably about to go home. So here comes a plane about 75 annoyed, hungry, tired, and confused passengers. I'm not sure if the airport had to call people in or what, but a few more employees showed up, and then a few more after that. As time went on, we realized we were going to be there a while. We were basically in a room with bathrooms, a drinking fountain, and a coke machine that was devoured pretty quickly. (Which I realize in the scheme of things isn't the end of the world. It's how things went down with United that just wasn't right). Cheyenne was just left with us with almost no warning whatsoever, and all the United crew just took off and disappeared. United didn't want to pay for anything (food or rides to a hotel) and from the looks of it, did not care what happened. The positive outcome at the end of the night seemed to have happened because of the Cheyenne airport employees working to figure out a solution. So, an hour goes by, then another, and then they find a way to feed everyone. They even made sandwiches for people who were gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, or those who had any other special needs, and I don't even know if United was even going to pay them. They still fed us. They opened up their kitchen and literally took care of every single person in the room. They even had someone bring in cases of water so people had something to bring on the plane. More workers came in for help because nobody really knew for sure what the plan was. It's 5:30pm at this point and we're told a plane will be arriving at 9pm to come pick us up. In the mean time, the Cheyenne employees make coffee (regular and decaf) along with sugar, Splenda, etc....the works). They set up a whole station. More time goes on. 7:30 or 8pm now. They bring out tea and set up a station near the kitchen, give blankets to those who are cold, etc. They hang out with us, stay on the phone to find solutions (literally non-stop, they weren't just letting us hang there) and keep us updated and really try to find a solution for everyone. At the end of it all, I never in my life have seen that level of customer service in a situation like that. I apologize I don't have names to provide on here, but there were probably 10-15 employees who helped out that night, depending on who was in the kitchen (we didn't see it). We were there for nearly seven hours, and they took a group of 75 people who were tired, grumpy and confused, and turned them into happy, thankful and laughing passengers. Try that out someday without a warning and a limited staff with almost no resources for that amount of people in a short amount of time. It's not easy. Everyone near the end was getting their names so they would write letters and give some recognition. I'm not sure how many actually will. The airport itself is nice for a small airport, but not expect to get to where you need to go flying thru Cheyenne. The one carrier that they have, Great Lakes, does not have consistent reliable service. You might as well save the money and drive to Denver. read more
