At first things were looking slightly bleak as the weather conditions had resulted in a power cut. However, once power was restored we were not disappointed. Our pool side room was simple but elegant with a modern bathroom and a huge bed - just the place to retreat when weather was not in keeping with a holiday vibe. There was also free WiFi throughout (although this also seemed to be adversely effected by the rain). Best of all was breakfast, a mixture of perfect pastries and a few cooked dishes rustled up by the chefs from Restuarant Gilles Goujon which is situated next to the hotel. Truly delicious.

We were therefore delighted to be able to return a month ago, this time to stay as well as dine. Being a Sunday (and just out of season) we were the hotel's sole residents. At dinner we also dined alone. This could have felt awkward. However, our charming host provided just the right level of service making the evening feel special rather than odd. The food remained excellent - simple but beautifully prepared and the wine list read like a greatest hits of all of the region's top names. Our room was also perfectly pleasant with plenty of space to relax and a good sized balcony for al fresco lounging. Free WiFi was on hand to keep you connected with the rest of the world - a big plus. So nice in fact that a return visit is now looking more than likely in another 12 months or so.
