A really good neighborhood spot. It's always busy! Lunch and dinner are very popular here l. And for good reason. The food is really good. The tandoori salad is great! Lots of perfectly seasoned chicken and lots of veggies. The entrecôte came with fries and salad. The sauce that comes with it is divine. The real showstopper is the Ile Flottante! Wow. A beautifully milk-poached meringue floating in a custard/crème anglaise sauce. It's a precious and beautiful dessert that must be tried at least once. Sit outside and people watch. read more

Review is based on a late lunch. Had the chicken with a side salad & egg soufflé. The chicken breast was flattened which made it tender. It also had some sort of Middle Eastern spice on it which made it better then it looked. The side salad was just some lettuce on the side of the plate. It lacked dressing or any other vegetable such as tomatoes or cucumbers in it. The zucchini soufflé was light, fluffy & loaded with zucchini. It was a nice side. Overall it was a decent lunch but not blown away. The cheese plate appetizer looked good here. Towards the end of my meal it seemed the managers overlooking the wait staff were pretty serious looking. read more

Horrible experience. I was told to release the table shortly after a waiter had seated me for drinks (the table was not dressed for dinner and there were plenty of empty tables. No clear policy about availability and no way to register a complaint.) The second waiter was hostile and literally stated: "This is my place and I do what I want". Very unprofessional. read more

I love coming here for the "salads" - and I use the term salad loosely, since as you can see from the photos, the salads are very very copious- hearty and filling! They have an excellent choice of salads that are standard, and then a salad du jour kinda deal. Same thing with the rest of the menu - you can really order just about any typical French bistro food here. Back to the salads - they are always served with something on the side in a cup or jar (gazpacho for the Andalusian salad, or bœuf bourguignon for exemple). If you've taken my advice and went with a salad, don't skimp on dessert! (Haha either way, just don't forget dessert! Best part of a meal!). Get the Nutella tiramisu - to die for! As always, today I took the prosper salad, my friends took the tartare and the steak de poire de boeuf. The salad was good, the cheese was oozing of the tartine and the ham was cut a little too thick. Otherwise it was quite good, as always with very fresh ingredients. The tartare was 3,75/5 because there were too many other ingredients apart from meat in it. The poire was overcooked for a a point. I'm not sure why this place only got 3.5 stars. I went at 2300 hours after the big bus night tour. I was hungry but I wanted a place close to my hotel. The concierge suggested this place but when I went (st. Patrick's day) it was crammed. I choose another based on reviews and was a bit disappointed. But on to why your reading this. 2300 hours (or 11pm for civilian folk) and there were empty seats. Not bare, but empty. Still happy hour as I was reminded by the server. The locals also started to pile in after me, which is always a good sign. The server spoke English and was fast to assist me with the French menu as my French is worse than most Parisians' English. I left it up to the waiter, i said bring me what you would eat. He brought duck confit and was accompanied by a glass of chardonnay. Let me just say, tres bien! Cooked perfectly, smoky flavor with a side of steamed tomatoes and squash. Also delicious. I'm just sorry I waited until my last night to try it. Even though I had absolutely no room, I ordered the tiramisu. Also perfect, the cream not too sweet or heavy the cake not too drenched or tough. Perfect. For the price and the location (if you're close) it's a definite try. Just go on off hours and you'll get top service, happy hour, and great food in less than 10 minutes. Took me a long time to finally write a review for this brasserie since I could not remember the name of the place until I searched here. How can I search the place if I do not know the name of the place? Well, I might not know the name but I know exactly where it was. Let me explain how I can remember the location and not the name of the establishment. Last August of 2011 when I went to Paris, armed with only a Metro ticket, a ten Euro bill and my iphone (to track my run) I went on an adventure run. My adventure run consists of running in the streets of Paris with no particular destination in mind. I just run in the direction where I think something might be interesting. First I ran along the River Seine, in the direction going towards Bastille, then I just look for a Metro (the subway system in Paris) sign just so I get an idea where I am. I must have ran a good 8 miles until I had enough and stopped. The purpose of the run was to get the sights of Paris that you only get by walking, in my case running. I had been in Paris for over a week now in this trip and still not sure where to go and eat, I was getting tired of the touristy brasserie that I was frequenting near the hotel I stayed at, that is until I found this gem. Judging by the good amount of people waiting for a table I had a hunch that Chez Prosper was going to be good. The people in line were not tourists mind you, they were Parisians, how can I tell? It's because I'm pretty good at guessing if a person is local or not, I can tell these people were locals ;-) . Since I just finished running, I did not want to come in all sweaty and grungy, so I looked for . Luckily it was pretty close nearest to Nation Metro Station. It took one transfer to get to my hotel. Getting around Paris in the Metro subway system in Paris is easy once you get a hang of it. So after a quick shower, we headed back to the restaurant. There were still a good amount of people waiting for a table when we got there but the turnover was pretty quick, so we were seated in no time. Besides the wait was not that bad, we got to chit chat with the locals, I was right they were locals. The patrons and the staff were very friendly even with my very limited French. The waiter had made an excellent recommendation of lamb stew, I really like lamb so it was a no brainer for me, lamb it was. The food was great, the service was excellent, the other customers were very friendly, it was an very satisfying experience to say the least. Oh I almost forgot to mention, We even got a table outside in one of those small round table and after my meal we were sipping on my espresso in one of those little cups. So, because I literally ran the streets of Paris to discover this place, I know exactly where it is and which Metro station is the closest station. Next time I'm in Paris I will surely come back to this place and maybe I'll run farther or run in the opposite direction, who knows maybe I'll find another local gem. read more

French food doesn't please my taste buds as other cuisines do; however, I was very satisfied with my meal at Chez Prosper. They have great steaks, duck, salads and desserts to die for. I got the duck which was served up with mashed potatoes. The duck was cooked rare and was seasoned nicely. The cut of duck resembled that of a chop and had a nice thick layer of fat which gave great flavor to the meal. I ended my meal with a tiramisu. This was heaven in a little glass jar. It was light, not too sweet and just fantastic. Unfortunately they ran out of their nutella tiramisu; however, I do suggest asking the waiter to set one aside for you if they seem to be running out when you are dining there. It is tough to come in large groups as the restuarant is busy and fairly small to American standards. I would come here for a solid French meal which will set you back about 25 euros for drinks, tip, food and dessert. read more

I'm writing this review with conflicting emotions as I have previously spent my share fare here and have never really been disappointed...until now. Walked in at 21:00 with my wife and five year old because for some reason my daughter likes their un extraordinary tiramisu. We were seated ready to order and as we unannounced that we were there for desert they literally threw us out saying we are uninterested in selling deserts and coffee. This place was below average french food that I had in Paris. I may not have ordered the right food but what I had was not great. We ordered the burger which was just a normal burger. We had a piece of bread with cheese on it which was just okay, nothing special. Everything was too greasy and the service was not great seeing we did not speak french. We stayed near this restaurant on a recent trip to the city of lights and you don't have to be very observant to notice that "it's so hot right now". This place gets packed even on week nights and it's definitely a festive, lively place to enjoy a Parisian meal with what seemed to be a lot of locals on the night we stopped in. I ordered the beef bourguignon because I wanted to experience a French staple (solid) and my husband ordered the steak and fries (cooked to order but still on the tough side). We noticed a lot of the "regulars" were having the salads so those must be where it's at. The service was great even with our very limited French. Overall I don't think this place is going to knock your culinary socks off, but in our experience it was a bustling spot to have a solid meal. read more
