There are many tour boat companies to choose from and we are so happy we chose Chicago Fireboat Tours! It was GREAT! Just being on a such an historic treasure of a boat. Not too big of a boat either so you can maneuver around it all for great views of Lake Michigan & the Chicago River. This was a Historical & Architectural tour. We learned so much from the speaker ( Cliff) about this great city. Stunning views. Plenty of memorabilia on the boat from it's storied past. Even a full bar ( and small bathrooms). Very fair price. Tour was just under 2 hours which went by quickly because it was fun. If there is one boat tour to do of Chicago, it's this one. Just grab an Old Style (beer), sit back, and enjoy.

The Chicago Fireboat Tour was one of the highlights of our trip. The captain and crew were all incredibly kind and accommodating. We loved the narration by Cliff, our tour guide--his voice is perfect for the job (think radio DJ!)--and we enjoyed a refreshing beer from Magic Manny, the bartender. Seeing the city's iconic buildings up close was truly magical. There was plenty of seating, including several tables toward the back of the boat for families who wanted to enjoy lunch during the tour. I highly recommend this experience--you won't be disappointed!

Took the family for an afternoon tour. Two teens and my spouse. Everyone enjoyed it. Smaller than other tour boats but it gives it a different feel which I appreciated.

If you want to spend a lovely afternoon and learn something about the architecture of the buildings in downtown this it's the best way. Take a sit ,relax and enjoy. It's nice cuz on the back side of the boat it's covered but unfortunately you can't hear very well because of the noise of the engine so in a hot summer day,that's the best spot if you don't come prepare with had ,sunscreen etc.:) There it's also a small lovely bar that provide snacks and drinks ,2 tinny restrooms service ,a lovely entrance where you can admire some beautiful and tragic moments in the history of firefighters and of course the front side of the boat that it's having chairs to sit and enjoy.

Loved the Chicago fireboat tour. It's a smaller tour boat than some of the others. My friend and I found them on Groupon the deal was super easy to use and book. We got there with plenty of time to spare before boarding. Austin the tour guide gave an awesome satirical history of chicago and the unique architecture and stories that makes up the city. Loved seeing the buildings from the vantage point of the river. I was glad I dressed warm because the wind gets pretty strong coming out back onto Lake Michigan! There were also refreshments to purchase at the bar but my friend and I just stayed in our seats the whole time except to move around a bit to take pictures!

This tour was one of the highlights of a recent trip to Chicago. We had a great time learning about the locks on the river, the river itself, Lake Michigan, Chicago parks, and the architecture. We arrived early, so we got our choice of seats. They have a little bar, so you can sip a cocktail, beer, wine, or soda while during your cruise. The boat is an old fire boat that has quite a history. It has been very well restored and modified for its current use. The pricing is very reasonable for the tour. I will definitely recommend this tour to anyone traveling to Chicago.

Really enjoyed this tour. Was initially going to go with the Wendella which most people do. I like this one because the vessel is smaller, so not as many people like the Wendella and priced better. It was informative, fun, and you get some AMAZING views and pictures. Wasn't too happy that they don't accept Groupon on weekends and holidays. But got over it and purchased from them directly. Based on the experience, glad that we went with them.

I have been on several Chicago boat tours over there years, but none compared to this one! Not only are you traveling on a museum of sorts, but you are being entertained by the crew. Austin, the tour guide, shared info I had never heard on other tours or even in my years spent growing up and living in Chicago, interspersed with clever humor. I highly recommend! read more

Had a long layover at O'Hare and decided to take a boat tour, dad and I ended up taking ' Historical and Architectural Lake and River Tour' where we had so much fun. The tour was a little less than two hours, the guide was very good, there was a bar on board but not a lot of food. We went for the morning tour and it wasn't very crowded- which we appreciated. It was a nice sunny day and much better than going to an observation tower. We got a good deal for the tour on groupon which was really nice. read more

They a had clear weather protective shade/wall around the back of the boat so you could be comfortable inside or outside the boat with plenty of seats for all. We got lucky with a gorgeous (and still/no wind) day so we sat out front. Loved this tour and would recommend to anyone, we were glad we chose this over one of the larger less intimate boats. My only suggestion to the tourguide would be to lower the speaker level of the microphone as we felt it was louder than needed, even when passing under the bridges with the car noise. The views of the buildings were spectacular and learning about the history was very interesting If you are looking to do one this is the one you want! read more

This company is extremely unprofessional! They booked a corporate excursion on the fire boat as well as sold tickets to people not with the company. My Wife payed over a $100 for my birthday cruse, We were treated as though We weren't welcomed and the people from whatever company were disrespectful as well. read more

Wonderful trip and wonderful crew. This trip was unique because the fire boat was so special. We did the historical tour. You start in the lake. It was about sunset, so great from pictures. Then you go through the locks (pretty cool!). You go up the river and then the north branch (not the south branch). Not an architectural tour, but interesting. Wow, great experience! The fireworks tour was amazing. Taking in the show on the lake and seeing the buildings lit up at night was spectacular. For the price don't be expecting a yacht. Best bet is to not drink if you get seasick and PB4UGO! read more

We are from Boston and have been to Chicago a few times and decided we wanted to do something different. We saw the fire boat advertisement and we're sold especially with it being a pair of Navy Veteran's that started it up! The tour was great tons of details but enjoyable. The employees were all very knowledgeable and nice. Both owners were on the boat as they said they usually are and they made the cruise even more interesting learning where they found it and got it home and made it the boat it is today! I cannot recommend this tour enough, well worth the money! read more

By boyfriend and I took the sunset cruise on Wednesday evening. We had such a great time. We actually bought a Groupon, but would easily pay full price for the experience we had. I have lived in Chicago my whole life and I have to say this is the best architectural boat tour that I have been on. My husband who is a Chicago firefighter and I celebrated our 20th anniversary by taking this boat tour. We did the 3 to 5 pm historical tour on a beautiful sunny day. The crew was professional, courteous, intelligent and accommodating.The views were spectacular and much of the information they shared was new to me (I have taken the architectural tours a few other times).I would highly recommend this tour. read more

Great choice for seeing downtown and the lakefront. Tour goes on the Chicago River and gives you the best views of Chicago architecture. My daughters and I celebrated my birthday with a Fire Boat Tour. The day started out rainy, however by the time we set sail, the weather cleared up and we enjoyed the cruise. It was perfect. On the lake We got to see our city skyline including Navy Pier in all it's beauty. Our tour guy Matt was very informative and pleasant, he answered all our questions. We had someone in our group with a disability, and it wasn't very clear how to access the boat or where the accessible route was located. The wheelchair-accessible ramp is also about two blocks away, which can be especially difficult for someone using a cane or with limited mobility. When we asked the staff on the dock for assistance getting down, we unfortunately didn't receive much help. Overall, we enjoyed the tour itself, but clearer accessibility signage, more visible information, and a little more assistance from staff would have made a big difference. We noticed that the sightseeing tour across the water had very clear handicap-accessible signage, which might be something worth considering.

Best deal. Our tour guide was happy, energetic, and very knowledgeable about Chicago because he was born and raised there. We chose the 75 minute, 4pm Chicago River tour and it covered a lot! We never lost interest and learned about Chicago's history. It is well worth it! Our Architecture River Tour boat departed from the dock at Navy Pier. We learned that their boats are the most accessible at this location. Their boats can accommodate wheelchairs up to 30-inches wide. Your wheelchair must be able to navigate a ramp with a 2-inch step at one end. I needed one that was kind to my knees. Best to call them for more details. They were very helpful whenever we called them. Their boats are both double-decker and single-level boats, and there is generally no protection from the sun, rain, or wind. There is a small bar on the main level. Restrooms are located on the lower deck, which is accessible only via stairs from the upper deck. Enjoy! It's amazing!

I toured over the summer with my boyfriend, and we both had a fantastic time! Even as a Chicago native, I learned so much about the city, it's history, and of course about it's architecture. There's also the added bonus of learning all about the history of Chicago's fireboats. Cliff is an knowledgeable and hilarious narrator -- if you have time, ask him about his days as a clown! The bartender was great, they have lots of fun cocktails and liquor options (including jeppson's malort)! They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and you're free to move around the boat as you wish. MY daughter paid more than $200 dollars to take me and my husband on the fireworks tour. The boat stopped the farthest from the fireworks and behind the dome at the end of Navy Pier giving us a partial view . We couldn't even see the lower fireworks. Felt like a scam. I booked a boat for 12 people this past Sunday, 8/22. I had been researching charter companies for…read moreliterally a month before booking, and Knot My Boat came out on top for price and charter times! After the captain fee, it was $2,000 for 4 hours. Most places charge that for only 3 hours. And this was the price during the air & water show! Additionally, the mid-level boat I initially booked was down for repairs, so the company upgraded me to a Luxe for no additional cost. Booking was incredibly easy online, and the company reached out immediately via email with instructions on how to book a captain. They also followed up often with reminders about parking, rules, etc. I thought the company's communication was great. Only booking complaint is that I wish they just provided a captain instead of making me do it. It wouldn't be difficult to just integrate a captain calendar system with their booking. My captain didn't respond to me after I paid or at all until immediately before the charter - I was really worried he would no-show and I would be held accountable. The boat itself was spacious and nice but not exceedingly nice. You can tell it's only used for charters, it's definitely not someone's personal boat, so a lot of stuff was kind of shabby. For example, the lights in the bathrooms didn't work, and all the cabinets didn't lock and would fly open every time the boat rocked. The seats were pretty torn and grubby. But listen - we didn't book this to sit in the cabin and chat, so it didn't affect our ability to swim or enjoy the fresh air. Just an observation. The full-size fridge, freezer, and cooler were fantastic amenities! I would consider using Knot My Boat Charters again, and it would be a no-brainer to book again if they were more helpful in booking a captain and holding him accountable for providing us with information leading up to the charter.

The experience exceeded our expectations in every way. Mary was incredibly detail-oriented, professional, and great to work with from the beginning. Captain Val and crew were personable, professional, incredibly friendly, and accommodating. We lucked out and had beautiful weather, awesome views of the shore and skyline, ample drinks and food, and the crew took every possible responsibility out of our hands. A month and a half later, guests still comment on what a fun, neat experience the evening on Valara was, using words like "magical" to describe the night, and we are already plotting for a 5/10 year anniversary party someday! Thanks to Captain Val, Mary, and Valara VI crew for one of the most memorable nights of life.
