We got there early, around 7:30 and the bar only had one other table being used, but we sat at the bar so we could hopefully chat it up with the bartender or learn more about their offerings. While the bartender was 'nice' he didn't seem interested in helping us out when we were fumbling with the menu or chewing up the Spanish language while asking questions. The beer taps they had (7) weren't labeled with the same tap names as listed on the board, so that was very confusing, the bartender did take our first order but virtually ignored us until about 45 minutes later when the place was filling up and he was the only one cooking, serving and bartending. There were times when he wasn't busy and was chatting it up with another customer and didn't check on us even when he walked by several times. Yes, we've been to many European establishments before and know customs, etc. but he did wait on and check on other local patrons but never us. We just figured this was a real true neighborhood bar that caters to locals and maybe doesn't prefer to have outsiders (too much trouble?). Anyway, this place could be been great, 7 rotating taps and boasting over 100 bottled beers to choose from. We flagged him down and closed our tab and took a very long train ride back to the city and went El Pedal, which we really had a totally different experience (see new post for that).

The scallops (pictured) reminded me of the cheap versions of dishes they serve at all-inclusive vacation resorts when they are trying to cut corners and save money. They were also chewy. Never a good sign. For 16.95 euro, one expects more. The location of Pepito Grill is good (for them) because you approach it directly after passing through security. Unsuspecting passengers don't realize the Madrid airport actually boasts plenty of nice eating options, though more in the cafeteria type setting (but still good!) rather than a full sit down affair like this. My advice to you is to keep moving and you'll find something better. Grumpy waiters and bad food? No thanks.

Recommended going to vips for lunch today for my mom and my godmother. We should've kept walking as…read morethe service was just awful. We walked in and no one was at the front counter to see if we needed a table and as we walked in more we were finally acknowledged, but escorted back out to the front to wait again. At this time there was no one in the restaurant, so why were we waiting? Finally we sat down only to be ignored again. A waiter finally came to get our order and told us rudely that we would need to get someone who spoke English and walked off. Before he walked off I told him that I speak Spanish, but he walked off so fast that I doubt he heard me. The waiter walked by several times and never acknowledged us again. Finally a man, who seemed like he was a manager, greeted us rudely as well. Explained to us that there was basically nothing left on the menú del día and forced me to quickly select something before he stormed off. The salad I ordered was actually very good, but it left a horrible taste in my mouth because of the horrible service. We felt ignored and unwelcomed. After the "manager" left we were never asked for anything again except when we wanted the check. If my godmom was not that hungry we would've certainly left. There are so many other restaurants in this mall--I recommend picking any one of those. I am sure you will receive way better service!
