Every once in a while, me and my husband get a strong hankering for fried chicken.. when the craving hits, we first think of a certain chain but it's too far. This time my husband did some research and we ended up at Chicken Holiday. We made a rookie mistake by just going without calling our order in first. Everything is made to order, so be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes if you just stop in. By no means, do I mention this as a bad thing! I prefer knowing my chicken isn't just sitting under a heat lamp, to be honest! There are plenty of meal options already set up to make ordering easy.. we got the "Chicken Dinner for Two" (8 pieces of chicken, fries or mashed potatoes or salad) for $25. We had to order extra sides, of course! Cole slaw, Mac and cheese and the corn fritters.. all worth it! The fired chicken was crispy even after the ride home, the gravy for the mashed was so good. Buyer beware! If you order through Grubhub, this restaurant adds additional charges after you've placed an order, claiming pricing errors on the app. I was charged an additional $6 beyond what I agreed to pay and conveniently there was no receipt with the delivery to reflect where that amount was applied. At the time of this writing, all prices on GrubHub appear to be the same as when I placed my order, suggesting this was an arbitrary markup, not an error in pricing. Either way, the restaurant should have to honor the price displayed. 4 GrubHub customer service "supervisors" would not work with me to resolve the issue. Luckily, consumer fraud is illegal. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB, and the NJ Department of Consumer Affairs, as well as disputing the charge on my credit card. Watch your receipts for price gouging if you plan to order from this place. Also make sure you have a microwave. Placed a big order on Father's Day. Everything was fresh and delicious. The chicken was so crispy and juicy. The fries were great. The shrimp was battered perfectly and not soggy. Large portions of gravy and mashed potatoes. I will definitely order again. read more

When I got there to pick up my order the guy told me he didn't have enough of something I had ordered, so he offered to substitute it for me, telling me that he "had to do something". I love chicken holiday, but this was terrible. The batter on the chicken was falling off each piece, and was not crispy at all. Just a mess. At least the chicken was cooked properly, but a huge disappointment. The ribs were overcooked and tough- real tough. My jaw got sore sawing through these bad boys. Big skip on that. This location was my first introduction to Chicken Holiday. I was taking Mini-Me to a friends house and she said, "Look a fried chicken place, we should try it sometime." Not that I am in Manalapan often but I said sure, I mean it's fried chicken, it IS a food group all by itself. But, on the way home I stopped in and after looking over the menu I went with the Family fiesta meal: 12 pcs of chicken, potato salad and it came with fries. $24.75 About 20 min wait, they were slammed with take out orders and seems the snack dish orders are extremely popular. Staff was really nice, the food was packaged well so it was still steaming hot when I brought it home. Delicious seasoning and because they still use the pressure cooker method for coking it was very juicy. Definitely really good chicken. This was my first and only visit to this Holiday Chicken because we frequent the one in Jackson but I do highly recommend it. read more

This is a takeout place that I heard about when I moved here 25 years ago. It has not changed its formula, as far as I can see. What works works. The fried chicken is very good. The sides of fried potato skins, onion rings, zucchini are fine. The ribs have good flavor, but can be tough and fatty. I haven't tried the fish dishes- might be too healthy. The chili is respectable, as is the rice pudding. I'm not a fan of their coleslaw, though. None of this is necessarily the best you can find in its category, but it's all above average. I have never detected any "off" flavors from the frying oil. The service has always been friendly. It's good to have a reliable source for this kind of takeout. read more

First time doing chicken holiday. Fried chicken was really good. Chicken had nice crisp too it and the meat was nice and juicy. Got the 10 piece chicken from the ala cart menu for two people. It had both white and dark meat in there. There is plenty leftover for a second meal which is perfectly fine. Ordered the curly fries and onion rings and both were real good. Nice kitchen staff, the food was the problem. The bread that came with the chicken was cold and straight out of the plastic bag, tasted a little stale. The barbecue chicken dinner was a failed attempt. It tasted like a breaded condom, the breading pulled off the chicken with ease and chicken lacked any real crunch. The fries were decent, they weren't hot enough and got cold very fast. The normal chicken was good, good flavoring and a nice crunch, all chickens lacked enough seasoning to be tasted. The mashed potatoes weren't good or bad but didn't taste like a real kitchen made it. The Mac and cheese was just as disappointing and lacked any real flavor. First of all i dont know ANY fried chicken spot that closes at 9pm and stops delivering at 830. ..especially on a Friday night. Their chicken is just ok but will do since the next best thing to fried chicken in Manalapan is KFC. These guys are waaaaay more interested in nickeling and diming you for extra condiments and rolls(which by the way can be bought at any supermarket..Potato rolls) and closing early, than they are in good customer service. Count your pieces!!! Was, at first, happy to find a place that had corn nuggets after the place in Freehold closed. Even if I had to drive a bit further to get them. Well, I started to notice the count being light after I got home without eating any nuggets on the way. Figured it was a mistake. Checked the next time. Light again. The most recent (and last time for me) I told them the counts were previouly light and my wife told them again when she picked up the order. Well not only did they mess up the order (we asked for two large orders, they gave us one) we counted and came up light again!!! When I called back to ask what happened they were purposefully obtuse saying the reason the order was light was we only got one package. When I told them 21 doesn't equal 25 they just ignored me. That's the last time for me. Anyone that refuses to do business honorably won't get my money again. read more

I called in an order at 5:30 PM on July 4th. I ordered 18 Buffalo wings, some chicken tenders and fries. I was told the order would be ready in 20 minutes. I thought that was kind of quick but since the holiday was rained out I figured business was probably slow. Well 20 minutes later I picked up my ordered. These were the worst wings I have ever had. They were shriveled up and dried out. One bite and the bones literally splintered in my mouth. It was obvious that the wings were reheated. I'm guessing because the holiday was a bust they overestimated what they needed and tried to minimize their loss by reheating and passing that crap on to their customers. I tossed the wings as they were uneatable. My wife wanted me to call them out on it but I knew they would not own up to that. So we were out our dinner and $27 but in the end, they will lose a lot more. They have lost me as a customer as I will NEVER order from them again. They gained a negative review here as well as all the bad word of mouth reviews that I can pass along. I hate to see food get wasted but when you are in the food business it happens. Trying to pass it on to your paying customers is a recipe for going out of business. read more
