That whole experience aside has been completely fucking trumped by what…read morehappened afterwards: The maitre'd Syed R, registered himself a little Yelp account and got in touch with me Monday September 12, 2011 and had the following to say: "We are in the process of contacting yelp in regard to this blatant lie of a you have written...the bride and the parents and the rest of 190 people enjoyed except for yourself .....this is what your cousin wrote....and we have sent a copy to Yelp and our attorney..... " So first impression: Lakeside Manor does not seem to be a fan of free speech based on that e-mail. The subjective experience and opinions of someone there (note my Yelp checkin) apparently are not worth politely responding to, as they try to address their customer service issues to provide a better experience to the family wedding party, rather they would like the review removed as if it never happened and to threaten a lawsuit in an attempt to dial back free speech and have a chilling effect on public participation when you are less than pleased with a local business because every time you don't give a five star review, you might get sued. This is a fucking disgusting and morally reprehensible attempt to toll the freedoms we all take for granted. - but good thing the law is on my side, since you do not need to look hard to find a quote from Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman that no Yelp user has ever been successfully sued for their reviews. Good thing I forwarded a copy of that e-mail to my fucking attorney - wait, I am a fucking attorney. So when you use LAKESIDE MANOR that is the kind of charming customer service you receive. Oh and on top of the Yelp message, everyone in your family is going to get an angry phone call from Syed R too, if you give anything less than five stars. Because you know, one Yelp review from someone states away is *that* big of a deal it is worth bothering everyone in my extended family. Apparently I am the only one who thinks the entire situation is a little fucking stupid, very fucking ridiculous, and even more fucking childish. Joyce loving and expertly placed clams, shrimp (enormous!) , corn on the cob, sausage, potatoes, celery, in a large steamer pot, along with bread on the side. Plenty of food! She is an incredible chef. The ingredients she purchases are all of the highest quality as she has been in business for decades delighting parties of all sizes as evidenced by fabulous reviews. We booked a venue which she controls (colts neck, NJ) and told her we wanted her to cater. 2 weeks prior to the date we contacted her asking when she needed to know the catering details and she told us she wasn't catering. We have text messages proving that we told her she was, and that she agreed previously. After scrambling to find catering, she was extremely difficult with the whole venue. We were charged for linens, half of which had holes burned in to them or were extremely dirty - we asked for new ones or discounted (10 dollars per linen) and were told no. On the day of, the soda dispensers (the only thing that comes with the venue other than the space itself) were quite literally ALL out of syrup. It took an hour into the party for there to be any sodas, and by the time we got it running the guests complained about the sulfur smell/taste and I had to get soda delivered anyway. Throughout the whole process Joyce was extremely rude, forgetful, and short. I never write reviews...but this was such a horrendous experience that I feel I need to. Never book this company, ever.

The pasta - for us the cheese on top was perhaps over toasted as it was on the dry side. Flavor was fine otherwise. Not sure I'd order this for a main dish without added protein though. The Chicken Scarp - excellent. The chicken & potatoes were very tender. The mild sausage makes this dish come together, it adds a level of savoriness to complement the balsamic sweetness in the sauce. I also like the long angled slices of sausage nicely seared on each side, it was not expected vs other versions that I've had. Meal also came with bread to soak up that chicken sauce. Also noting the place seemed packed, only 2 spots on their lot were open plus it sounded busy inside. Will try it next time onsite with one of my many fine bottles of wine. :)

I ended up ordering shrimp parm with linguini, and I asked for the linguini to have white sauce as opposed to the red sauce. She brought over water, a bread basket and bruschetta for the table. I usually prefer lime with my water. They didn't have lime, but she did bring over lemon wedges. While waiting for our meal my company had to step out and by the time the food arrived they weren't back. I asked the sever if I could get a plate to cover their food and she was super accommodating. Upon my companies return the server, even offered to reheat the food for them, which I thought was a nice touch. We declined, but we were still appreciative of the option. My food was very delicious. The white sauce for the linguini was amazing. One of the better Alfredo sauces I've had in this lifetime. The shrimp Parmesan was so so. I felt like it could've used maybe a little bit more seasoning but honestly paired with the pasta. I had no complaints. The restaurant definitely has a family feel and I got the impression that a lot of the patrons are regulars. I don't live in the area, but if I'm ever there again, I would certainly return.
