The new owner, is efficient but not very people friendly. The previous office staff was knowledgeable in billing, insurance and taking care of the patient's financial responsibility. Now, they are not only charging more for almost every service, but the billing and insurance is a complete mess. We needed to change our dental insurance company and called to make sure Modern would take what we were considering. They said absolutely 'yes', so we signed up. After routine cleanings, and xrays for me, we received a bill for nearly $600. as our payable. When I asked about it they said they were not actually 'in network' for the insurance company. I explained we made our choice base on making sure with them it was a company they worked with before we signed up ... to no avail. It fell on deaf ears - when it comes to the new owner Andrea the priority is the money, not doing the right thing by her patients. Save your self time and grief and go elsewhere. We have found another 5 star dentist in the area that whose staff are excellent, friendly, took our insurance information first so we are not being charged unfairly. The new Modern is in business only to make money, and not what the old Modern was all about - namely taking care of their patients in all aspects. If you look at the reviews you will notice that most of the good ones are from the past, and the newer reviews are like mine - they are overcharging both the insurance companies and their patients. Maybe it's just a sign of the times - money is the major priority and taking care of people is a distant thought. But please be aware there are alternatives out there who still do the right thing by their patients - this outfit is not one of them!

I asked them to provided proof as we had not missed an appointments in over five years, nor had we missed any recently. They said they would call me back. When I called they would not answer so I used a different phone. Umber and when they answered I asked them to send me proof, all they provided was the missed appointment policy. I called back and asked them to send proof. They sent via snail mail the policy again with no proof - becaue they made a mistake and clearly unwilling to admit it. It is because we are not spending enough money there. We have only had cleanings in the last couple years. Unbelievable. Over 25 years of care and this is how they treat their patients. I knew coming in that I had a LOT of work to be done, and was so relieved that Dr. Miller wasn't tsk-tsking me about not going in sooner. He just told me about the extent of the damage, and discussed the work that needed to be done without any shaming or judgment. Another great thing about his office is that he's very willing to work with your schedule (he was about to schedule me for an appointment during his lunch time!). One thing that needs some updating is his billing system though because it's very confusing to understand. I'll make a payment at the office, but then I'd get a bill to my house. When I brought the bill into the office to pay, the receptionist said that I should wait "until the end" to settle the account. What does that even mean? If I didn't need to pay, why was I billed? Oh, well. It's a small matter given how awesome everything else is.

I offered to come sit in the waiting room hoping they could find 5 minutes between appointments to take a look. But sadly the staff would not help me short of making an appointment for the end of that day. I went right to Aspen Dental in Benton Harbor, they did not know me but had me in a chair within 20 minutes of walking in the door. Aspen took immediate action and probably saved my life. I still ended up being hospitalized for 4 days and according to the doctors, my dental emergency that would have killed me was likely a result of recent work I had done at Dr. Millers office.
