Just received a call from Childhood Leukemia Foundation today (Saturday, Dec. 13th) at 8:04 am! This organization called me on the following days this month: Dec 4th, 9:57 am Dec 6th, 11:31 am Dec 8th, 10:47 am Dec 10th, 5:26 pm They continue to call consistently after Verizon sold them my number (had to have, my number is new to me and there are only a handful of family members that have my number bc my primary phone is my cell) although I am on the Do Not Call List as well. I have already spoken to one woman who asked for a donation for the foundation back in the spring. I told her "no thank you" very nicely and she responded "you don't want to give money to sick kids?" After telling her "no I won't be giving money to any foundation over the phone if I wanted to give money to them or any other organization I'd find their website and provide a donation" she hung up abruptly. So much for her fight for the leukemia patients! You would also think that you would scratch a person's name off of your list that once they've stayed on the phone long enough to tell you this and no monetary transaction took place. I guess they're smart enough to be persistent but ineffective at the least. This morning someone called me from (317) 788-2602, waking me from my slumber, when I pick up no one answers so now that I am awake and wanting to "make my donation" just in time for the 2015 tax season no one picks up. I have been calling them back to back for the past half hour while I catch up on Sons of Anarchy on Netflix. The phone will ring and eventually I will get the voicemail from their Executive Director but most times it won't ring and will go directly to her voicemail. That's quite odd for a business/call center phone number. So I've finally left a nice message for them to stop calling my number every other day. Doubt if that will work but we'll see. read more

I wouldn't even give this gnat (a very bothersome little bug) one star, but it's apparently required by Yelp. This boiler-room of telemarketers calls me at least once a week. I've tried to be nice by trying to explain that I do not provide ANY financial information (credit/debit-card numbers) over the phone to ANYONE. Each time, the caller (after thanking me for taking their call) has hung up on me before I even finished my sentence; now, however, I beat them to the punch. As soon as I hear the term "Childhood Leukemia Foundation," I hang up. No reputable charity would hire such rude people to represent them. Being on the Do-Not-Call-List is moot, since these so-called "charities" are exempt (which is why they pass themselves off as "charities," not to mention to scam you out of your money). Do NOT let these people (or like-minded pond scum) play on your sympathies. Find reputable charities (St. Jude's for example) to which to contribute your hard-earned money (and make sure that the CEO's aren't making 6- and 7-figure salaries in the process, e.g., "The United Way"). read more

These people called me in April and I agreed that I would send $15. They then kept calling because I had not mailed out my donation. In May 2012 I finally sent in form with check. From that point on my phone rings at least 3-4 a day with "other" asking for donations. Apparently, once you give to one of these organizations they then pass on your info i.e. name, telephone, etc. to the other hundreds of similar organizations. WARNING: Do not give any of them anything because your life will be a living hell with calls. And it doesn't matter if your telephone number is in the National Registry Do Not Call List, non-profit organizations are excluded. Please learn from me. read more

I donated to this organization once and have regretted it since as they sell you name and EVERY possible "charity" has contacted me since the donation. I have asked numerous times to be removed but still receive calls on a routine basis. Today, the rep actually hung up on me after I asked to be removed from the list. read more

The girl on the line sounded very sincere, but when I said I was sitting at my computer and wanted to look up the organization to find out how much of my donation would actually go to the charitable purpose of helping kids with Leukemia, she hung up on me. Real charities respect the do not call Iist or at minimum don't call when you ask them to stop calling. They do not continue to call and begin to call you at insane times of the day and night. If these scam artists won't respect the rules, the only thing to do is continue to Yelp them so there is a penalty for their bad behavior. My story is similar to everyone else's. I got the "out of area" call. I was ready to play them my standard, "do not call me" pre-recorded message, but I had to make sure if the call was legit or not. I was very skeptical about the woman's fast-talking used-car salesman techniques. She tried to get me to pledge $35.00. Her closing line was "can the children count on you?" I told her that I didn't contribute to any charities that I cannot confirm by looking at their caller id. She then gave me a very loud and sarcastic "Thanks!" I hung up on her. read more

Fraud. When I said I have chosen charities this year with my Girl Scout troop, the lady in the other end got very rude. She then dropped the $35 she wanted to only $15! I said sorry but we picked our charities and we actually give the money to the hospital who needs funds collected. She then said she would spend "holiday" postage to send out info. I said no. A woman just called me from this organization. She was extremely rude to me. I am appalled by her behavior, especially after I complimented the aim of her organization. The fact that I was disinterested in her spiel (as I was dealing my own children when she called) set her off on a sarcastic rampage. The foundation does not sell your address/phone number - the FOR-PROFIT collecting agency does because it works with a lot of different charities. And you should also ask much is going to the actual charity - the agency for this charity sends 50%. You think that is bad - I have had other agencies say 30% and 25% go to the actual charity. Do the charity AND yourself a favor - send your donation DIRECTLY to the charity. read more

I then call Barbara, Executive Director of CLF at 732 920-8860 and leave a message about what I think about being bothered by her illegal fundraisers who won't stop calling even though I've asked them to take me off their lists several times. She's listed her number on similar threads, so I don't see anything wrong with giving it out here. Just called me today asking for someone else on my personal cell phone. I told her she had the wrong number and she continued her pitch anyways. I told Madeline she should not be calling me and that I'm on the "do not call list." She instantly got rude and said we are exempt from the do not call list and continued her pitch. I've reported them to the FCC today. I'll give my money to who i want too. I don't need people calling me begging for it. This is the very reason why i ended my landline in my home. Nothing but people begging for money or trying to scam you out of it. The government is failing in protecting the consumer from this BS. read more

I know two kids who received directly from this charity. Wonderful organization. Very kind and considerate. They actually helped a family get a home because their medical bills were so high. They teamed up with another organization and bought the family a home near the hospital. Amazing. read more

Just adding my voice to this "foundation." I got a call from a young woman who said she was calling from CLF and they do gift baskets for children with leukemia. I asked her how she got our number, which is unlisted, and she replied that charities are exampt from the "no call" list. This is true unless it's a third party telemarketer calling "on behalf" of the charity. Since her call was listed as "Unknown Name and Unknown Number," I have no idea of who this woman really is. From other reviews here, it seems it might be from a third party telemarketer.... I am horrified that another reviewer here wrote that the third party telemarketing company keeps 80+% of what they collect with a small fraction actually going to kids. Anyway, I listened to her for a couple of seconds before telling her that I donate only to local charities (I'm on the board for a local 501c3 and give hundreds of volunteer hours per year, as well as monetary donations) and she said "oh good but this is for sick kids...." etc..... I told her I also donate to the Ronald McD House in the Bay Area and she hung up on me mid-sentence. Rude. Given the tenor of the other reviews, this "charity" needs help. There are two organizations named "Childhood Leukemia Foundation". One has its corporate office at 5455 Corporate Drive in Troy, Michigan. It raises money for children in Michigan only. It does not make cold calls. You can make contributions on-line at http://leukemiamichigan.org. The second organization is located in New Jersey, but has a PO Box at a UPS store on Union Lake Road in Commerce Township, Michigan. This organization -- which is apparently riding the coattails of the first -- sends out mailers, makes cold calls and has been accused of using aggressive fund-raising tactics. Last year I received three calls on successive days from this organization. On each occasion I explained that we were not able to donate at that time. After the third call, I concluded that this was not an organization I wished to contribute to. I sent an e-mail to the CLF asking them to take my name off their lists. While I have donated to a variety of organizations, I have never donated to CLF. I do not know how they got my number. Whatever the case, I just hung up from another call from the CLF. It would seem that once you are on their list, you are on for life. I am now preparing myself for another series of calls over the next few days. I recieved a call to donate in Nov.2013.Now the lowest contribution you are allowed to pledge she said was for childrens wigs,at $15.00.As a patient of a white cell blood disease myself ,and cannot work any longer. I had sympathy,and agreed to donate when my disability check came in.This very nice lady swiftly told me to hold,and transferred me to a telemarketing company,and a hash lady took over said"Now you are being recorded!Repeat your name address,and donation amount"I said hey wait this is a charitable organization!Why are you recording me?"They have called me from at least 5 phone numbers!No caller ID.Mailed me bills 6 times.Plus they kept calling me Sherry,and wrong last name.I said my name is Karen.Remember you recorded me?Cannot get them off my back!Now I am scared this will go into collections!I just got my credit clean of 14 Docs.,and hospital bills myself. She said the gift/check had to be recieved from my name!I am scared to mail them a personal check!All my identity out in the wind! Now Feb 2014 I got a bill asking me to go raise up my pledge to defer all their costs of hiring an agency to collect from me! I am not sure about the work the foundation does, but when I asked the caller how much % of donation is used for the program she said 22%. That means for every $1 donation they spend only 20 cents to charity the rest is their own expense...Chk out charity navigator for a score. read more

These scam artists lied to me about my wife giving them donations and about us being regular donors. They call back over and over asking if I could "match my previous donation" even though I told them not to call. They are liars, and information on the web shows that very little money actually goes to charity. They are in the business of asking you for money so they can have money, and in exchange they make token contributions. read more

I wish I could give a zero star rating. Got a call today from a boiler room. Noise in background was LOUD. Cheery girl came on and we said NO. Then I checked by call log and the number was concealed and I couldn't get it traced or call back. When any organization hides behind this kind of concealment, it throws up a giant RED flag for me. I only give to 3 charities and they are local. Don't ever give a cent to any 3rd party fundraiser. I also suggest that you find local charities that serve your community. We settled on a scholarship fund for a private religious school, a community center, and a homeless woman's shelter, all local. read more

I gave to the Childhood Leukemia Foundation one year ago in April of 2012. It was over the phone and a one time deal. The other day I was looking at my credit card purchases online and lo and behold there is a $25.00 charge on my card from the Childhood Leukemia Foundation that I did not authorize. I called my credit card company and they asked if I had called the foundation. I then called the number that appeared beside the charge and I got an answering machine from a woman named Barbara with the Foundation. I left the message about the unauthorized charge and asked that I be called immediately. NOTHING. I called again a week later and NOTHING. I then called my credit card company and they told me it was a recurring charge and I said NO WAY, I don't consent to any recurring charges. Long story short, it's going to the fraud dept., my credit card has been cancelled, I've been credited and they will issue a new card. I'm finished with donating over the phone. We give to the Wounded Warriors and I just send them a check every month as I don't want people having access to any of my credit cards. Too many unscrupulous people out there. Just be wary is all I'm saying. read more

A few months ago I received a cold call to donate to a charity call Childhood Leukemia Foundation. I said I never donate to anything over the phone without knowing anything about the organization and told them to send me something in the mail. A few days later, I received the "reminder" of my so called "pledge" in the mail. (It also asked for an additional $2 to cover expenses, an odd request, I thought). But I did send in a donation. Then the non-stop phone calls started arriving to donate for OTHER charities, and when I got their things in the mail, I found out they were all coming from this telemarketing company Innovative Teleservices. And now, this telemarketing company calls me constantly, just about every day, SEVERAL TIMES A DAY! And their called ID number is always blocked.... hmmmm... blocked called id, not a good sign. Today, I finally did some research on Childhood Leukemia Foundation and was horrified at all the terrible reports! It is a SCAM organization! Most of the donation money goes into fundraising costs, the so-called "foundation", and a few pennies actually get to the sick kids! Well, they will not be getting any more of my money! And I will be having some nice words with the telemarketers next time they call. As a side note, I actually work for one of the largest fundraising agencies which plays by the rules and is very committed to the charities we work for, to make sure the public sees them in good light, and that any donations get the most value to the people the organizations are trying to help in the first place. I am all for helping out legitimate charities, but now I am extra careful to watch out for the scammers.... I should have known better. read more

We donated once to this organization and will never do so again. They have not stopped calling despite our pleads to place us on their do not call list. We have no intention of ever donating to this group again and would discourage anyone who receives a call from them from starting as the phone calls never end. If you do donate, it is likely your money is going to support a greedy call center and the people running it rather than the children that really need our help. Evidently this foundation employs a company to call for donations. On my caller ID they were only identified by "Unknown 1". They have been calling for weeks and hang up just before it goes to the machine. Today I caught the call and they said they were calling for Foundation name and they did know my name. I have never dealt with this foundation and would never do so by phone. The thing that really bothers me is that this Foundation is paying a company to call random people about 2 times a day--not a real good advertisement of how your donation money is being used not fully for children with leukemia. I tried to figure out what they actually do, realized it was shady, and I was in the middle of saying that I dont donate to organized charities for the exact reasons outlined here in other reviews of these people, when she called me an idiot and hung up. read more
