If you are here reading this, you are probably late, but if you are smart and you are doing some research before giving this con artist crook any deposits, DO NOT! Please spend the next 5 minutes of your life and read my nightmare experience. These next 5 minutes are worth thousands of dollars of your hard earned money that you WILL NEVER GET BACK. Trust me, Im a victim like all these other reviews from Gene. First thing you need to do when you meet Eugene or his son Vanice and gives you an unbelievable quote of a lifetime for any home improvments, DO NOT FALL FOR IT! That's his first tactic to get you to sign a fake contract. Low priced quotes. The next thing, and most important thing you need to do is research the fake contractor license he puts on his paperwork. I posted some pictures for ya'll to see. He steals active contractors identities to make things seem legit, but in reality all he does is steal other contractor license numbers. However, once you catch his fraud, Gene will say the license number on the paperwork is not a California contractors license, and instead a zipcode! Yes, you read that right! Which means he misleads us to believe that he has an active contractor license. I actually called the real owner of the contrator license and made him aware that Gene was stealing his license number identity. Public records show Gene got his contractor license revoked by the state of California, and has multiple judgements against him. He will tell you the story that he works for a big contractor company, but never provides you any company contractors license, and if he does, before you give him any deposit, PLEASE DO YOUR SELF A HUGE FAVOR! Do some research on the license number and call the number on the state board to verify Gene actually works for the company. As shown on the pictures, I hired him to convert my Garage into an ADU, and I also hired him to do my perfectly working kichen. His tactic is very smart. He will finish about 30% of the work, ask for another draw of money and stop showing up. He will say the supervisors and managers are not sending him to work at your home, and then give you the story that he is not going to be working with the company. When in reality, there is no company. Its only Gene and his son Vanice. To make things worse, Gene is a very smart person. He has nothing in his name. He has no assets. Therefore, you can not go after anything he owns. Even though I know Gene will not show up to our court date on May 6, 2025, i deceided to give it a try. Unfortunately, Since he does not own a bank, home, or anything, all he will get is another judgement and your money is lost. All this is public information. All you need to go is google his name and you will see everything. Do not fall for his nice guy attitude. He will say he is giving you a low quote because his company gets low cost material. Not true. Im posting this to create awareness on Gene. Since the legal system cant do anything to people like Gene, the only thing we are left to do is create awareness. Here is my personal number. Was given them as the company to come and check out our AC unit through our home warranty. The guy Jason is nice, called me Monday to come to my house Tuesday between 6-7pm. Now on Tuesday morning he called to ask to come out Thursday due to other high priority calls involving elderly, I mentioned to him I have a 2 year old at home and thought that would also be a priority......he said yes but he couldn't come out till Thursday. I see he is based in Wrightwood and I am in Covina, I take it he didn't want to make the trek. Disappointing that a business owner would say yes I am a priority call but he wont make it till 2 days after the fact. food for thought to Jason, don't sign with home warranty companies. read more

I have read all of the nightmares but I regrettably believe that I have had the worst so far. They got in touch with me through my home warranty whom has cancelled them since due to multiple complaints. At the beginning of August I got in touch with AFC home warranty about my air conditioner not working. Eugene (whom I wish I never met)came over to my house o 8/5/17. Eugene said I needed a new motor. I asked him if the condenser was bad He said he wouldn't know until a new motor was put in, if the condenser was bad then I would have to get a new condenser & I wouldn't get the money back for the separate motor that I purchased. I went to purchase the condenser. Due to the age of the central air conditioning unit (11 yrs.) my warranty was only paying $100 towards unit. At that time I asked Eugene if he took credit cards. "No do you have a check" Eugene said. So on August 5, 2017 I gave Eugene a check for a brand new R22 air conditioning condenser.The days passed & everyday I heard the word back ordered until they just ignored me. It was during a heat spell in Hemet, Ca. They didn't tell me that the order was back ordered Because it is a discontinued model. At the beginning of August I informed Eugene, Alexis (the receptionist I believe), & the owner of the Childress company that I was elderly & have COPD. I also informed them That use oxygen &~ am having difficulty breathing to the point where my life is medically threatened. August has passed,September has mostly passed & on 9/29//17 I decided to upgrade to a more expensive air conditioner condenser after finding out from another AC company that the R22 condenser was a discontinued model. My mistake I decided to stick with original company because I didn't want to lose the $2100. They wanted an additional $2700 for a total of $4800 for the new condenser. On 9/29/17 I gave Eugene a check for $1400.Eugene then took away the old condenser plus some things from the attic & was supposed to be back the next day, then 2 days, then 3 days. Then they did not contact me.It is now 10/2317 & still no Childress Construction. On Fri. !0/20/17 I called a different company. One technician phoned me & came over my house on 10/21/17 in the evening to find out what Childress had done. Two technicians then came over at 6 A.M. Monday morning. They finished installing everything the same day. I am amazed at how beautiful a job they did. Childress emailed me yesterday after I let them Know the other place was coming over today. They have $3500 of my money which I want back.BEWARE DON'T USE THEM. I could have died from lack of breath. read more

My home warranty co assigned Childess when I called in a claim that my refrigerator was not maintaining proper temp. They called promptly to set up an appt, and called 3x btw original call and when Gene arrived. They called again to confirm I spoke with tech to set up an appt, and called on the day of the appt. Gene diagnosed the problem and said he would order the part and set another appt when then the part comes in. These guys are polite courteous and professional. Doesn't get any better than that. read more

This company had done work for us before, we were pleased enough to call them back for a larger project. This time around it took 4 messages before anyone returned my call, that should have been a hint. They canceled the first appointment for an estimate, but did show up for the second time. We discussed the project, they took measurements and promised the estimate within a couple of days. Two weeks later after leaving voice mail messages that went unanswered and emails that were not answered, we still have heard nothing. Obviously, they have no interest in working on our project, but it would have been nice if they had said so from the start. This contractor was assigned to repair my AC by home warranty company. Technician Jason came out to diagnose the issue. Claimed it was due to capacitor malfunction and need to make separate trip to complete the repair. Collected fee for both trade call and freon. Said they will repair capacitor and recharge the freon on next visit. 1 month later, never came back to complete the repair and home warranty company had to assign a new tech. Calls were never returned. New tech correctly diagnosed the problem as wires crossing and promptly fixed the issue. So overall, a nightmare experience with Childress, and I recommend staying away from this company. Will give negative stars if possible. read more

To describe my experience with Childress construction as a nightmare would be an understatement. It started when my home warranty called them out for a dishwasher repair. I made my appointment with Eugene on 8/25 to come out on 9/2 to repair some piping that had been chewed through by a rodent. I was given a 5 hour window on a Saturday for them to come by and "diagnose" the issue. I had hoped since I made my appointment 9 days in advance I would get it closer to the early time they quoted. As I sat and waited for 6 hours they ended up not showing up or calling to inform me they weren't going to make it. I called my home warranty company and they had a technician reach out. I was informed someone would come the following day. The next day Eugene showed up and told me he would send the report to my warranty company and would get back to me in 24-48 hours with a quote. That was on a Sunday. By Friday I had not heard anything so I reached out to the warranty company to get the status of my work order. I was informed they discontinued their contract with Childress because of complaints, but assured me if they wanted to complete the job they started it would be payed. So once again I called Eugene and set an appointment for the weekend. (At this point going on 3 weeks with no dishwasher). Eugene came out, fixed one of the drainage hoses but did not see the other part that needed repair when he originally "diagnosed" the problem. He said it's a cheap part and easy to repair and I could do it myself. That same day I went to the hardware store, purchased the part and got under the dishwasher to see immediately he not only misdiagnosed the issue, had me purchase the wrong part, but I could clearly see another hose the rodent chewed through. I called Eugene immediately and sent him a picture. He said he would get the part and fit me in this past weekend. By Friday I still had not heard from him so I reached out. He informed me he would call me later in the evening and would be in my area on Saturday to get me seen. All Saturday I sat and waited to not receive word only to be informed after I reached out that "he was not working after all, and was really backed up Friday and couldn't text me". He also let me know that he would schedule me Sunday morning. I am now sitting here Sunday with no notification or reply to my calls or texts. Each visit has cost me more money and time. This simple repair order started over four weeks ago and am still without a dishwasher. The money spent I could have purchased a new dishwasher and had it installed same day. Eugene has been friendly every interaction but the consideration for our time, finances, and energy spent chasing down replies/explanations has been unbelievable. I like the guy and felt comfortable with him in my home, but the headache, frustration, and lack of professionalism of this company baffles me. If you are over worked, I get it! BUT don't leave us hanging wasting our valuable time off waiting on you not to pull through or finish the job you were brought out for. We are now a month without a dishwasher and I still can't get them to finish the job they started. This company was contracted by our home warranty company to come fix our AC. After evaluating the AC, they could not figure out the model because it was so old, so they took the parts with them so they could figure out how to replace them. A check for about $350 was written out to them (along with a $60 copay) because they said the unit also needed freon. We never heard back from them and even left voicemails. We finally called the warranty company back and they said Childress Construction is no longer available! What's even more frustrating is that they said they replaced the freon but never did! They've already cashed the check for both the copay and the freon. They came out over a month ago and our AC is still not working and it's been almost 100 degrees this week. If I could give them NEGATIVE stars I would. This company was sent to us by our home warranty to fix our garage door. Eugene was the technician who came out. At first, he seemed professional. Put the garage door back on it's track which was $350 but said we needed some drywall work done in order for the garage door to stay straight and keep from coming off the track so we shouldn't open it. He said it was gonna be a $600 job to put a piece of plywood over the drywall. I told him we'd have to make sure the home warranty covers this since the motor is what caused the door to come off the track. The next day we were told the home warranty doesn't cover ANY of the work the garage needed and we would be responsible for everything. So after some negotiations with our home warranty, they (home warranty) decided to cover $125 of the $350 and we would pay the difference. Eugene then told me, "I spoke to our office and they said we'll go ahead and fix the entire garage, drywall and everything for what you've already paid which was the difference after the $125 home warranty paid. I told him that was wonderful news. He told me he would call me in a few days to put us on the schedule. 3 days go by and no word from him. I texted him and he said he was sick and would call me the next day. A few more days go by and nothing. I texted him again and he said he was busy and backed up and would call me later to confirm time. weeks have gone by and no Eugene. I messaged him again and got a response from a guy named Michael who informed me that Eugene would be out for a few days. I told Michael at this point we would appreciate any other technician to come out and finish the job. Michael then told me he would have someone out that Friday. I said Great! Friday came and went and still no one. We're now on week 4 and still unable to use our garage door. Messaged Eugene again and our calls and texts were now being ignored. My husband called from a different number and Eugene picked up right away (he was ignoring us purposely) he told my husband that he had been reassigned and couldn't finish the job for us. We thought it was odd and very unprofessional that neither Eugene or the office could have the common courtesy to let us know what was going on. Instead they just ignored us. We decided to call our home warranty to make a complaint and get someone out to properly finish the job. Total Home Protection ended up conferencing both Eugene and myself on a call so we can set a date and time for him to finish the job. Eugene bold faced lied and said he finished the work and never told me he would be back to finish the garage because he had already fixed it. I provided all the text messages that proved otherwise to the escalation rep at THP. Eugene hung up quickly after I told him with the rep on the line that he was a liar and a theif and I had all the messages to prove it. He was quick to take our money and never came back to finish the job. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY. IF YOUR HOME WARRANTY SENDS THEM OUT, ASK TO HAVE ANOTHER COMPANY SENT YOUR WAY AND CHECK THEIR REVIEWS. We checked Childress reviews after all this happened and saw all the negative reviews. It's too late for us to recover our stolen funds but hopefully this review is helpful for other potential victims. read more

I hired this company to come do my whole house with dry wall, and they came and did a amazing job with the dry wall plus the mudding and shooting the texture. I never had any problems with this company and the owner Eugene was really kind and sweet and answered all my questions. keep up the good work!!!!!!! read more
