Seems more like an open air grocery). The focus is strongly on produce, with a lot of Mexican spices and exotic fruits, although there are permanent installations of restaurants and several small crafts vendors (more towards the open area). Tons of spices, vegetables, and fruits of all kinds. We bought some rambutan for $6/lb (you can shop around a bit, we heard prices anywhere from $6-8) and a bag of coconuts. I think overall the prices are quite high. There are also tons of bugs around in the summer and some booths do better than others at keeping them out with little fans. The Local Market Bar was very cute and conveniently air conditioned. We got a dirty (espresso shot) unsweetened matcha and it was pretty bitter, a good wakeup but not too flavorful overall and was pricey for what it was. Maybe would've tried one of their foams next time.

There are plenty of parking in the neighborhood and signs everywhere to tell you where to park. There are many vendors from fresh produce, fruits, flowers, baked goods, desserts, meat, and specialty items. Many great options to choose from. Everyone is always friendly and welcoming. They also have live music and places to sit and enjoy. There's a lot of shade so it doesn't get too hot as you walk around. It's one of my favorite farmers market in town.

Only open on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm, this market several produce stands as well as some for home goods (candles, leather items, jewelry, dog bandanas + treats, knife sharpening). One can stock up on eggs, microgreens, fresh pastas, hummus/spreads, jams, meats, and even seafood here. For eats, acai bowls, leige waffles, bakeries, cookies (!!), tacos, empanadas, and refreshing pops were some nibbles available. There's a playground with some tables in the middle to sit down. There's a map at the entrance, but it's more fun to amble around and browse! A parking lot is available, but most people were parking in the neighborhoods (as directed by the signs). Most vendors took Apple Pay or Venmo, but bring cash just in case. Come early-- I went around 9:30 am, and some of the home bakeries were sold out of their popular goods!

While there are a couple of farmer's stands with fresh produce, nuts and dairy, I would say most stands sell prepared food items. There's a wide range of items from fresh baked bread, salsas, kombucha, donuts and more. There's also several coffee vendors to grab a nice beverage to sip while strolling the booths. Parking is very limited for this market. Expect to park on a neighboring street (be sure to pay attention to parking signs) and walk a couple of blocks to reach the market. Another solid option is to walk or bike in from the heights bayou trial. This is a great option to get a little exercise and reduce congestion in the area. Overall, a great market! Don't forget a reusable shopping tote and bring some cash if you can!

If you want to be certain, check their events website (https://www.heightsmercantile.com/events) for upcoming dates. Parking was a slight inconvenience, had to find something on a residential street nearby. Nice market, on the small side. Grabbed a few awesome products -- local honey from Bee2Bee, seafood pot pies from Miya's Munchies (she's got both frozen pies and hand pies), and some gluten-free sourdough bread from Leven. Everything was good but like I mentioned above, the pot pies from Miya's are amazing. My one complaint would be the lack of produce. Only spotted one vendor with a relatively small selection. You can always head to the Houston Farmer's Market on Airline Drive, which is open daily. They have loads of produce. Maybe this goes without saying but it gets brutally hot. Parts of the market were in direct sun so please be safe. Water and sun protection. Leven bakery sells fresh coconuts to sip from. They're very refreshing but too small to share (and priced at $8 each). Might be a good idea to bring some water from home.

Mr. Hatterman, if you are reading this, my wife says that you are one of the nicest, sweetest men…read moreshe has ever met. Since I'm a guy, I can't offer you quite the same compliment, but I must say, you are one friendly fellow. Mr. Hatterman is the purveyor of Hatterman Poultry Farm, a farm in Weimar, TX that supplies a number of Houston farmers markets with eggs from pastured, free-range, vegetarian fed chickens. In fact, if you ask, Mr. Hatterman has a book that he made that shows just how happy those chickens actually are. If you page through it, you'll see page after page of chickens wandering around his farm, picking at who knows what, and laying delicious eggs. So, aside from getting to converse with a charming local farmer, you're getting some pretty awesome eggs. Mr. Hatterman has a variety of eggs that you can choose from. I don't want to quote prices, because I can't remember prices for more than one or two, so I will do my best. Medium Brown: $1.50 per dozen if you buy 2 dozen or more (umm, I bought 6 dozen eggs for $9, organic eggs in the grocery store are $4 per dozen...who says buying local is more expensive?). If you only get one dozen, I *think* it is $2.50 per dozen Large White Large Brown Green eggs Duck Eggs: You can be a burger guy in your own home. By the way, beware of buying eggs from The Burger Guys that claim to be from Hatterman, he says he hasn't sold any to The Burger Guys for quite some time. Imagine they have a new source. Upon getting home, you'll get some of the freshest eggs you've ever had, as the eggs have been hand gathered just a short time before being trucked to market. You'll witness some of the brightest, most vivid yolks you'll ever see. Supporting farmers like Leon Hatterman is how we take back our eating from big food and an easy way to avoid salmonella. So, next time you're at one of Houston's many farmers markets, keep an eye out for Leon Hatterman. Never again will you look at eggs the same way again.

And maybe show you a few photos of his grandkids at the same time. I buy the eggs from him at the farmers market sometimes, and the prices are usually roughly the same as the price at the nearby grocery store for the fancy eggs. I definitely think the price is very fair for the quality of eggs and the experience of buying from Mr. Hatterman.
