Requested to find source of mice in my gas fireplace. Ethan was sent to investigate the issue…read more None was found in the fireplaces which he cleaned and plugged an opening in a vent. He went on to check every room in my house for openings and found none. The outside vent was secured with a metal mesh to catch any unwanted animals from entering. He also went upstairs to my attic and found nothing there. The source of the occasional mice visitor is still a mystery but I feel so much better and recommend GARDEN STATE CHIMNEY highly. Excellent service ethic. And even better excellent tech. I highly recommend this company for all your chimney and fireplace needs. VERY FAIRLY PRICED

Dan will help you solve your chimney or fireplace issue with a smile. You will feel like you made a new friend. Dan has gone out of his way, on multiple occasions, to help me with my fireplace. His kindness is unmatched. In the past, he has made videos to help me light my pilot light. Today, he coached me through a fireplace issue, and when I couldn't get it to work, he called me and said he was in my neighborhood. He remembered that I am a teacher and might have the day off, and said he could come by to help. He was at my door in 20 minutes and refused to charge me for the visit. Dan runs his business professionally but with an extra dose of humanity and kindness. I cannot recommend Dan and Garden State Chimney enough.

If you are going to install anything yourself or have someone other than their installer do this…read moreAVOID these people. We bought a ventless gas log set from them. I wanted to support a local business and had naïvely felt that they would stand behind what they sold so I did not mind paying the extra money. I would have been way better off buying it on Amazon or another site online! I already had the gas line so I just needed to replace the old log set. First of all, when my wife picked it up you must sign a waiver that says you have a total of 24 hours to inspect everything. Then they have a clause in the waiver that states it may need "FINE" tuning. They also claim they do not do the installation and support they have contractors that do it, but their website clearly states they do installs and service. I installed the unit and it would run for a minute and turn off. I went to the manufactures website and found out you cannot contact them or get support; you must contact the dealer you bought it from. I called to find out how to get it fixed under warranty. Now even though the website is covered with service and support options I was told they don't do the service or support I needed to call their contractor and schedule a service call. When you call the contractor it sends you back to Albers to schedule the service call ?????? Oh, and that is $300. The tech came out and found out the thermocouple was not near the pilot light, and he needed to take it all apart then move the pilot light and the thermocouple, so they got next to each other and aligned. I have a checkout sheet with the unit that states who built it and tested it, it all says it was all tested and passed. So, I called back again to see how I could get credit for the fixing the manufactures defect. I was now told that since they did not have to replace any parts it was not a manufactures defect in workmanship it was a "FINE TUNING" and therefore it was not covered, and I had to pay the $300 myself. So, I should not expect to pay over $2000 for a gas log set and then expect it to work out of the box. Imagine if you bought a fancy gas stove and one of the burns did not light so you called Maytag and they fixed it and handed you a bill for $300 tow day safter you bought it. Albers sees no problem with this. If I had just bought it from Amazon or another online vendor I could have packed it up and got another one that was manufactured correctly. Instead, it cost me extra to by it and then $300 extra to get it to work.

This place is extremely frustrating. Not many places near me to get this done so I went for it…read more Started off great, in store service was good and we found an insert for a reasonable price. They quickly got there the next day for measure and prepwork and that's went it started going down hill. First, John was nice enough to go get sample of the stones we potentially wanted to be installed as well. However, he decided to slam them down no more than 20 feet from a sleeping baby which he knew was there. He then promptly took his deposit which was 2/3rds of the total price, pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Then the fun started. They said they'd apply for the permits, which they did, and they'd call me when the heard from the town. That was a Friday. I called the town the next Friday to find out the status and they said they called A and J on Monday to tell them the permits were ready and they never heard back, so I had to go pick them up myself and tell A and J the were ready. Off to a bad start and it gets worse. I had to call non-stop for four days just to get a scheduled date they could come. They kept saying they needed John to call back and somehow he was missing for that entire time and his schedule wasn't written down anywhere. It wasn't until I threatened to take my business else where in the middle of a very angry message I had to leave in order for John to finally get in touch with me. Fast forward to the day they are scheduled to come. They are right on time, but guess who's not there...John!! Why was I waiting for his schedule when its two other guys that are doing the job? Anyway, they did a good job, covered all my furniture to keep dust off and were done in a few hours....mostly. I had been told it was a one day job and that they would take care of the inspections too....Nope again. John came later on and said they would have to come back because I was supposed to schedule the inspections. I scheduled the inspections for the next day and called to tell him he could come and he said to wait until afterwards, they only reason to do that if he was expecting a failure. Well, they didn't fail, but they stalled again on coming.I got them to come a day or two later and they finished the rest in about half an hour. The fireplace does look good, but I have yet to use it yet. I would imagine if it passed inspection, it should work properly, but if it doesn't my guess is I'll have to go somewhere else since A and J might have the worst customer service I've ever come across. My thoughts would be only to come here if you really really have to.
