Stopped for dinner and ordered some basics, fried rice, chow mein, sweet & sour pork, spicy wonton and a chef's scallop special. Place was quiet for a Wednesday, typical Chinese restaurant which could use some updating, but it's not about the look, it's about the food. The owner who was serving us suggested that we try the daily special Hai Style Eggplant instead of the scallops and we agreed and OMG it was the best! Being from Vancouver, we get good chinese food, being Chinese, i have eaten my share of good Chinese food. This eggplant dish was one of the best i have tasted. The eggplant seemed to be deep fried but not greasy, textured with a crisp outer layer and the meat sauce that covered the whole was flavoured just right. Highly recommend everyone to try this. The chef came out to chat, gave us a chance to compliment him and was honoured to have him come out to speak with us. The fried rice and chow mein were ok, had better but could have used some more flavouring. The spicy won ton was just the right amount of spice and the sweet & sour pork was better than normal with good texture & taste balance of the sauce My DH said it was one of the best he has had and that speaks volumes as he has that everywhere! Would highly recommend, if in Brantford to check this place out. we look forward to going back when in town. Would give 4.5 as the basic dishes were ok, but def a 5 star for the service & eggplant dish itself. Go try it! read more

Absolutely excellent authentic Chinese. The staff are very friendly and cater to your needs. Lots of dishes issued, never piled up, quickly removed. Always asked for refills or any other service. This is by far one of the best Chinese restaurants I've been too. Happy to say it's also from my home town. I've been to dozens of Chinese restaurants in little China towns in Toronto and NYC respectively. Nothing beats the taste and flavors of this top shop. Big fan of the Kung pao pork, hot and sour soup and noodle dishes. They also make a mean curry. This place is literally flawless when it comes to food quality. I was in the mood for some Chinese fried rice and so my friend immediately took up my offer of dinner out. The decor is extremely dated and the service was OK. The staff was friendly enough. I ordered the combination fried rice. While it was reasonably priced and portioned, I was disappointed that it was heavily drenched in soy sauce. Which meant every ingredient tasted the same. At least the shrimp, beef and chicken were tender and cooked just right. Unless you are a huge fan of soy sauce, skip the combination fried rice. read more

I read the great reviews, so I had high expectations, and they seemed to deliver on them. It has a very authentic traditional Taiwanese Chinese food. My family sampled several dishes, Peking duck, pan-fried noodles, tilapia in a brown sauce, and shrimp in lobster sauce. It was as close as I was going to get to Chinese food from Toronto. They were so kind to play the birthday song for my mother's birthday but it was a little embarrassing. The décor was a little dated. read more

Wontons in hot oil are delicious and spicy! Moo shu and general tso are both awesome as well. One weird thing I've noticed is that if you order China King as delivery, it pretty much tastes like every other kind of Chinese food. However, if you dine-in, the food is on a whole other level. We often meet friends here from Guelph and we drive from London for the best Hot and Sour Soup ever. I was introduced to the China King in the mid 90s when it was just down the road. It was the soup that clinched it. We have been driving there for the best Oriental food we have yet found. We rave to everyone we know and have introduced friends from Niagara and Toronto to the place. Everyone leaves here with a smile. Lots to eat and loads of items on the menu. We cannot think of any one food item that stands above the rest since they are all excellent. The prices are commensurate with the quality.
