It is at the far end of town from the river, but the walk wasn't long, We ate here on a Friday around noon. Most people (we observed later) opted for pizza (which seemed to be ready quickly). We all got pasta. Whether it just takes longer for pasta, or service is leisurely, we were not sure. A lot of the tables here seemed to be locals but there were a few obvious tourist tables (at least, I'm guessing there are not a lot of Koreans who live in Melk). We were seated promptly and the server took our orders fairly soon. Then we waited. Once the food arrived, it was good. My daughter could not finish hers, so she took the rest to-go. I enjoyed mine and finished it, though. My wife's salad was huge, and we all shared that. If you are in Melk at lunchtime, this is a good option.

No, but given that you'll also see the abbey and the charming town, it's definitely worth a trip, and unless you are determined to eat NOTHING BUT AUSTRIAN FOOD while in Austria, you should eat here. The cracker-crust pizzas are on point (we had the tri-formaggi and the funghi), and the insalata mista was surprisingly good -- lots of fresh veggies. Everything else rolling out of the kitchen past our bar seats looked good, too (although personally I'd stick with the pizza and pasta over the wok items). It's a small restaurant, and you will wait for a table anywhere near lunch or dinnertime (unless you are lucky enough to snag seats at the small bar, as we did). The one dude rolling out each ball of pizza dough, topping it and sliding it into the oven, TO ORDER, can only work so fast. (The bar seats have an excellent view of this.) If you've got a train to catch in the next hour, or you just want something quick for whatever reason, this may not be the place for you. But if you have a little time, you'll get an actual delicious handcrafted pizza. Seriously, I want that pizza funghi now.

Probably couldn't have been a nicer day, we were on a river cruise on the Danube. Stopped at a tiny village called Grein in the Austrian Wachau Valley. If not for the cruise we never would have happened on this gem of a town. Rather than eat on the ship we asked our tour director if there was a local restaurant she would recommend. So that's how we found La Vita. They had a menu so large that it would make a diner envious. I opted for pizza optioned with lots of extras. The pizza was probably 16"; way too much for me to finish and surprisingly good. It cost under 7 Euros. Around $7; probably would be double in the US. Local bier for 3.5 Euro completed the deal. Awesome!

I ordered the musaka which I had never had before. I was made with meat, mashed potatoes, mushrooms & eggplant. It was served w a side salad & herbed sour cream. Very tasty. I also decided on an appy with feta cheese, onion, tomato, cucumber& kalamata olives. It was very good & I thought the feta was excellent. So happy I tried new foods on our adventure & found this place in particular. Lovely country!

It's Italian cafe and there is a shop right next to it selling women's fashion and accessories. I believe the the two stores are joined together, makes sense, sip a coffee while shopping for clothes ;-)) The ice cream I had here was good and tasted quite nice. They carry some Italian brand of ice cream here. Shop made gelato is not common around this part of the country and most places seem to carry either locally made small producer ice cream or Nestles (which I would never buy). Coffee here is also quite ok. I would come back here for a coffee or gelato. It's a nice cafe with indoor seating only.

My wife had the lasagna and said it is the best she'd ever had, and I had the Torino (meat lover's) pizza which was very good.
