It's clear that they've had to make modifications to accommodate the mostly German clientele that they serve. Hence, not the most authentic of places but pretty good food nonetheless. If I wanted to try Asian food in Berlin again, I'd probably go to Goji or maybe one of the handpulled noodle restaurants.

Das beste D i m S u m in Berlin! Lage: Eigentlich halte ich mich nur selten in der Gegend um den Wittenbergplatz, den Tauentzien und die Gedächtniskirche auf. Aber Weihnachtsshopping macht hungrig. Daher war es eher ein Zufall, dass ich am ersten Adventswochenende das Ming's Garden in der Marburger Straße, einer ruhigen Seitenstraße vom Tauentzien, entdeckte. Das Highlight: Als jemand, der gerne und relativ oft chinesisch isst, war ich sehr überrascht, hier auf ein China-Restaurant zu stoßen, dessen Küche D i m S u m anbietet! Dabei handelt sich um kleine Gerichte, meistens gedämpfte oder frittierte Teigtaschen mit allerlei Füllungen. Sie werden heiß dampfend im Bambuskörbchen und in kleiner Stückzahl (i.d.R. 3-5 Stück pro Portion) gereicht. Gut gemacht sind das Leckerbissen, nur leider ist Dim Sum in Deutschland kaum verbreitet und wenn, dann ist es oft nicht frisch zubereitet. Ich habe es Ende der 1980er Jahre in China Town (New York City) zum ersten Mal gegessen und bin seitdem ein großer Fan davon. Die Dim Sum-Gerichte in Ming's Garden sind einfach besonders! Sie schmecken umwerfend, sehr fein und man merkt sofort, dass sie frisch zubereitet worden sind! Dieser Eindruck hat sich bei meinem zweiten und dritten Besuch absolut gehalten. Atmosphäre: Hinzu kommt, dass das Restaurant eine angenehme Unaufgeregtheit verströmt, sodass auch VIPs sich manchmal blicken lassen. Links vom Eingang hängt ein Foto des Restaurantchefs mit Bundeskanzlerin Merkel. Preise: Wer vermutet, dass Ming's Garden deshalb besonders teuer wäre, täuscht sich. Die Preise von Ming's Garden liegen unter denen gehypter China-Restaurants wie dem Ming Dynastie (gegenüber von der chinesischen Botschaft und qualitativ überbewertet) oder Good Friends. Aus meiner Sicht ist dieses Restaurant für Feinschmecker ein echter Geheimtipp! read more

Lucky enough for me, having found this Chinese restaurant at the heart of the former West Berlin city (opposite to Europe Center). This is one of the few places in Germany where you can get genuine Chinese food, if you are not only looking for Chop-Soy. I have known this place for nearly five years. Every time when I am in Berlin, I will go there for at least one time. The joyfulness starts already with the decent interiors. The rooms are decorated without any ostentation, though you will recognize the Chinese origin of the design. The real delight certainly comes from the manifold dish offerings. It is not about the chop-soy dishes which you can get in every Chinese restaurant. It is about the multitude of the culinary arts. The cooking styles mainly belong to Shanghai and Canton cuisine. Especially noteworthy is the Dim Sum offering, one of the specialties from Canton. No matter whether Shaomai or shrimp dumplings or phoenix talons, everything is served in the original way as you will find it in Hong Kong or Canton. Simply delicious! Still not satisfied? Mings Garden hat mir ein China-Kenner empfohlen, als ich nach einer Hongkong-Reise ein chinesisches Restaurant in Berlin suchte. Mings Garden mit kantonesischer Küche ist ein der ältesten chinesischen Speisegaststätte Berlins. Speisen und Service sind wirklich gut. Es ist mir schwer ein bestimmtes Gericht zu empfehlen, da wirklich alles, was ich dort probiert habe, gut zubereitet und sehr lecker war. Nennenswert sind vielleicht die Peking Ente oder den Zackenbarsch in 4 Geschmacksrichtungen und nicht zuletzt auch sehr leckere Dim Sum. Ein guter Tipp ist, wenn man dort mit mehreren Leuten hingeht, soll sich auf die größeren Hauptspeisen weitgehend verzichten und einfach ganz viele verschiedene Vorspeisen und Dim Sums bestellen. Das ist nicht teuer, aber vielfältig und lecker. Mings Garden ist wirklich ein exclusives China Restaurant mit sehr angenehmer Atmosphäre. Vom Sagen sollen viele Promineten auch dort gespeist haben. Also, ich kann dieses lokal den authentischen China-Restaurantbesuchern empfehlen. Außerdem ist es ja auch immer ein gutes zeichen, wenn viele Asiaten in einem solchen lokal speisen! read more

Die D i m S u m - Karte im Ming's Garden ist ein absolutes Highlight. Ich bin kein großer Schreiberling aber das muss man einfach empfehlen, so wie es mir empfohlen wurde. Dim Sum - das sind lauter verschiedene kleine Speisen, welche in kleinen Bambusschalen gereicht werden. Meist werden zwei oder drei Stück einer (oft gedämpften) Speise je Schale gereicht. Für mich war diese Art chinesisch Essen es eine ganz neue Entdeckung, ist man doch eigentlich in Berlin das typische ChopSuey-Chinesisch gewohnt. DimSum dagegen - so stellt man sich Essen in China oder in den vielen China Towns dieser Welt vor Also wenn man sich in Zoo, Kufürstendamm und Umgebung aufhält, ist das Ming's Garden ein guter Tempel der kulinarischen Kunst, in dem man in angenehmer Atmosphäre authentisch chinesisch essen kann - und die Preise sind moderat, wenn auch auch natürlich nicht auf Imbiss-Niveau! read more

Das Restaurant ist sehr authentisch eingerichtet, es gibt traditionelle chinesische Musik in angenehm verhaltener Lautstaerke. Die Ober waren sehr zuvorkommend, dezent und zuegig. Die Speisekarte war nicht ueberfrachtet, wie sonst oft in Chinarestaurants. Sehr zu empfehlen sind die Dim Sums, die finde ich besser als im Goodfriends oder bei just dim sum. Die besten, die ich bisher in Berlin gegessen haben. Sie sind in der Qualitaet absolut vergleichbar mit Dim Sums in Guangzhou oder Hong Kong. Wir haben unsere Firmenweihnachtsfeier im Ming`s Garden gefeiert - weil wir gerne Peking-Ente essen wollten. ich kannte das Lokal vorher nur vom Erzählen. Ich finde es sehr geschmackvoll ( edel und dezent) eingerichtet. Der Service war hervorragend - sehr freundlich und schnell. Das Essen inklusive Vorspeisen schmeckte allen unseren Gästen sehr gut. Die Pekingente wurde professinell zubereitet und am Tisch tranchiert. Wir waren alle sehr begeistert und haben uns nur gewundert, dass wir überhaupt kurzfristig noch einen Tisch bekommen haben. Ich kann Ihnen den Curryreis nur empfelen, er ist wirklich köstlich, wenn ich daran nur denke läuft mir schon das Wasser im Mund zusammen. On my question if it's possible to order one of these traditional clay pot bowl without the meat ingredients the waiter insisted that I should order one of their listed veggie dishes instead. Not sure if changing the dish is against their concept or not but it left me with a very limited choice of 4 semi interesting vegetarian dishes. I decided for veggies in a clay pot which didn't convince me in flavour nor concept. It was a boring food experience. It seems that authentic Hong Kong cuisine is simply not made for vegetarians since my friend had a hard time on naming 5 street food dishes that are meat free. However, I respect that and can highly recommend this spot for everyone eating meat. Its just that i won't come back since there is plenty of nicer options for me to eat in that corner of Berlin.
