According to folks who lived through the 80's as they experienced the beginning of Chinatown in Southwest Houston... this was the New Chinatown to them. If you trampling through downtown streets, you'll see signs also say Chinatown. That is the Old Chinatown. In late 1980's, merchants moved from Old Chinatown to Bellaire Blvd settled as we see today. There are only few businesses kept their original name and original storefront from that time. You can find Tak Sing Hong 德信行 and Yuan Ten Restaurant 雲天烧腊麵家 at Metropole Center and Le Lai Restaurant 東江菜館 at Dynasty Plaza. People often use Dun Huang Plaza as Houston Chinatown. Granted, it is the largest and busiest shopping mall in Chinatown from dusk to dawn. In foodie scenes, you can say Chinatown consists of all restaurants on Bellaire Blvd from South Gessner To Beltway. Anything beyond that is called Little Saigon or Asiatown. Based on Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau tour book, Chinatown extends pass Beltway to Dairy Ashford Road in the west and to Fondren in the east on Bellaire. If you live in Houston for a while, you probably know Chinatown is one of the 88 Super Neighborhoods in Houston. This 2.37 square mile of land covers from Westpark in the north down to Beechnut and South Gesner from the east to Beltway in the west. Houston Chinatown is a fun place to be. If it were in Virginia, it'd be VA-Chinatown. And I'd come here even more. So to speak. Chinatown in Houston is one of the most amazing Chinatown areas in the whole country. The western half of it is more "Vietnamesetown" and then there's also "Koreatown" a few miles north in Spring Branch, although there are some Korean gems here in Chinatown too! The heart of this area is the very lively Dun Huang plaza, although I Dun Huang out there as much as I used to. Ha. Ha. The amount of incredible food and spectacular Desserts and Drinks that are in this area are second to none. It's like being in Queens. It does remind me of a more humid and more spaced out Flushing. The nightlife here in Chinatown is some of the best in all of Texas. The other highlight of the area is the Saigon Plaza, about a mile East of Dun Huang. I hope it's never demolished otherwise it'll be (sigh) gone. The best of the best in this area for food, the first 2 are unmissable: Bite Of Spice - the greatest Chinese food ever, get Lamb Cumin or Spicy Chicken Lim's Chicken - the best Korean chicken you'll find anywhere, get the spicy original Xin Jiang - amazing western Chinese bbq, get lamb skewers and enoki mushroom Nguyen Ngo - incredible Banh Mi on croissants Thien Thanh - perfect banh cuon thit nuong - great Viet food Lee's - wonderful Banh Mi, spring rolls, and viet iced coffee Cocina Latina - best pupusas and tamales in town, on Club Creek King Flavor - amazing shrimp w/leek and everything is good Hong Kong Food Street - good Congee and late night goodies Fufu - not as stellar as the others, but Chicken Jalapeno is good, open very late And for drinks and desserts: The BEP - fancy drinks, the Okinawa and the Pea Flower drinks and Mojitos are awesome Teaholic - Strawberry Aloe Vera and Strawberry Black Tea are delish Teahouse - good location of this local chain, try Strawberry Black Tea w Strawberry Hearts Nu Ice - probably the best ribbon ice cream you'll ever have Red Circle - surprisingly excellent Churros Bambu - the best location, berry smoothies, honeydew and mocha smoothies, all amazing 85 Degrees - amazing baked goods, and one of the busiest and freshest locations we've been to Sharetea & Gong Cha - excellent franchise locations in Dun Huang, v busy, w lovely employees - get the Okinawa or Whole Lemon Black at Sharetea, Brown Sugar Milk Tea at Gong Cha. T4U - quiet little franchise location across the street from Dun Huang Now once you've tried all of that (and have gained 20 lbs), get back to me and I'll have more for you. My favorite place to visit in all of houston. I technically should live here since I'm always finding excuses to drive by and get some food or drinks in this area. The food is authentic, prices are affordable, and there are so many places to choose from. Some places even open late, which is perfect for any late night snack. I've been to a few chinatowns in the US and in terms of food, I would definitely put houston chinatown in my top 3 because of the variety and the prices. We have a more modern chinatown, but that doesn't take away from the history of it. More plazas are opening up soon, so I'm sure we'll have more to enjoy in this amazing place. The Chinatown community in the Houston area is rapidly growing and expanding at an unbelievable pace. The center of Chinatown runs east of the W Sam Houston Parkway on Bellaire Boulevard up to about Redding Road. The heart of this Chinatown is at the DunHuang Plaza. Very well known for the good assortment of businesses this place carries that caters both young and old. It is anchored by the Great Wall Supermarket, which is the large draw. There are also lots of other very good restaurants, bakeries, entertainment, shopping and cafes that line this plaza. This is the most crowded plaza on the Chinatown strip now. On the other side of DunHuang, you have the Sterling Plaza, which is anchored by a HMart supermarket with a Tous Les Jours bakery inside. Lots of delicious restaurants line this plaza as well and you will no doubt not have any issues finding a good place to eat here. One coming attraction to this plaza will be the addition of the 85° C Bakery Cafe, which is expected to draw large crowds to this plaza located in a prime location. Diho Square is another large plaza anchored by a Welcome Food Center. There plaza is unique in that there is a Police Station here as well. Lastly a medical center takes up a huge part of this plaza so there is lots of traffic here as well. There are very good restaurants here as well and that adds to the flavor of Chinatown. Other noteworthy plazas in the Chinatown district include Sin Chao, Jusgo-Metropole Center, Fortune Court and Dynasty Plaza and Bellaire Medical Plaza. Houston Chinatown also has their own daily newspaper and radio station. You know there are lots of Asians when they have their own media group. The Chinatown is constantly growing. There is a larger project going on now called the Bellaire Food Street project. The land is centrally located in the Chinatown area and the project has already started. Looking forward to seeing this new project get off and add the next newest plaza in the Chinatown area. The Chinese community is not just limited to this area, the areas around Memorial, Sugarland and Katy are all areas where there is a growing Asian population outside of the immediate Chinatown district. All worth a visit if you are in the area. Chinatown is really made up of more than just this Chinatown community. Along the same route of Bellaire Blvd on the west side of W Sam Houston Parkway, you have the continuation of some Chinese businesses as well as some Chinese/Vietnamese plazas. There are three primary plazas which anchor these businesses. The first is the Saigon Houston Plaza. A very popular plaza with many of the most popular Vietnamese restaurants in this plaza. Do make a trip to one of the popular restaurants to try out some of the authentic food. The Hong-Kong City Mall is anchored by a Hong-Kong Food Market. This is an indoor Asian mall with a food court on one end and a large Ocean Palace dimsum parlor on the other end. The supermarket is huge and many authentic Vietnamese eats in this mall. A truly one stop shop for eating and shopping. The Viet Hoa International Foods plaza is another must visit. A supermarket so large that there is also Sun's Wholesale Club, which is like an Asian version of Costco. Viet Hoa is large inside with many good Vietnamese grocery/good offerings. Many great restaurants also line this plaza and is also indeed a must see destination. If you enjoy Asian food or just want to see the best of what Houston Chinatown has to offer, do make definite plans to visit this area as it is growing all the time. read more

After we went to NASA, we decided to plop ourselves into Chinatown for a week and eat everything in sight. I've only been to NYC Chinatown and LA's Koreatown, but I was amazed and impressed by the size of Houston's Chinatown. Alot of variety in this area from Chinese to Malaysian to Korean. It goes on for miles. Block after block. Every side street has a side street. All filled with little shops, bakeries, restaurants, or something to do. Even after Chinatown there is still all kinds of restaurants. Houston is so diverse, I love it. I thought we could tackle Chinatown all in a week, but there is no way. Even if you eat 4-5 times a day with dessert in between. I enjoyed our week stay and exploring the area. We're already planning on going back soon. Most definitely a must if you're visiting Houston. Bring your stretchy pants, walking shoes, and your manners. read more

I've been coming to Chinatown in Houston since I was a kid. We would come down on special occasions having lived on the Northside of Houston near Bush IAH. We would come shopping at the grocery markets and also eat dimsum as a family on the weekends. I now come here as an adult to do the exact same things with my friends. Parking in certain plazas can be a bit hectic and stereotypes are sometimes real when dealing with drivers in the area so be cautious! read more

Ni how, y'all! A lil' bit of China Deep in the Heart of Texas! This is a thriving Chinese community, right in the middle of Houston. They have all the street signs in Mandarin Chinese! The sign fronts, shopping centers- all in Chinese! My favorite- there's a Houston Police Department substation- with the name all written in Chinese! Talk about great places to eat! This area has lots of options- all Chinese! There's chinese BBQ places, dumpling places, spots to get your noodles and wontons on! I can't believe how many Asian supermarkets there are here! Each one is larger than the last, and full of authentic Chinese wares. There's even a newspaper and supposedly a radio station just for Chinatown as well! This place is more Chinese than New York's Chinatown! Amazing! You don't have to listen carefully to hear all the Chinese being spoken around here. I am thoroughly impressed by this place, and can't wait to try out all the little shops. read more

This area is so unique. Visited local market and they have a large selection of imported fruits, vegetables, fish and meats.

I love visiting this place I like trying new foods although I usually just go to fufu cafe which is really good and also I have visited other food shops through out and also further down bellaire the only reason I give 3 stars is because of the last time I went into a beauty shop wich I don't know the name of but it mainly had face masks , I was with my 2 cousins both girls and everything seemed normal to me I looked around picked out some face masks and looked through the selection of makeup they had and finally went up to the counter , when I handed the lady the money she snatched it out my hand I was confused but I didn't want to go into assumptions so I didn't say anything then my cousin interrupted and told me she had some change so I could get even change back , well when my cousin told me that the lady literally rolled her eyes in front of us, I got my stuff and walked out confused , so when we are outside my cousins told me they were watching us too close , I'm Hispanic but this is the first time I think I've ever been racially profiled so, I wanted to go back and get my money back but I just didn't want to cause a scene also the police there are Asian so they'll probably believe them over me read more
