Last year, we signed up for our first combo tour: Alcatraz + Haight walking tour. Due to the 2018 fires, our SF trip was severely affected, including the cancellation of the Alcatraz portion. The walking tour was still made available at our own risk given the horrible air quality, but SF on Tap staff were very flexible, refunded our Alcatraz portion, and still conducted a great walking tour led by Lina. The history we learned, the beer knowledge, and the breweries we visited was fantastic. By the end of the tour, our little group was happy, tipsy, and chatty. It was a great first experience! So this year, we went back to San Francisco and did the Alcatraz + Fisherman's Wharf walking tour. Weather was fantastic this time, and the process for getting our tickets plus the actual day of activites was seamless. Prepare for a long day of walking if you do the combo tour. Dress comfortably and wear very comfy shoes. We did the Alcatraz audio tour, which helps you cover the main portions of the site, but there is definitely more to explore, so don't anticipate being able to do it all when you have to be back on shore with time to spare for lunch plus arriving for the 2pm beer tour. So....plan your morning accordingly. After Alcatraz, we had lunch at Boudin at Pier 39 then took a 5min Lyft ride to Ghirardelli Square for the start of our Fisherman's Wharf beer tour. Our guide was Dylan. Dylan did a great job and took us on quite an adventure through Fisherman's Wharf and Little Italy area. Although the beers on this particular tour were not my favorite (except for the barley wine and sour at the end!), I appreciated deepening my knowledge of the neighborhood and of course....brewing! I also love the intimate nature of the tour, like when we get to the breweries / pubs, and there is already dedicated space for us to sit, enjoy, learn, and drink! Dylan did his best to personalize our beer options to our tastes, so that was much appreciated. At the end of the tour, Dylan provided some fantastic dinner recommendations, since the tours end by 6pm. Trust me, you will be hungry! Both Lina and Dylan provided us with memorable craft beer experiences. My boyfriend and I look forward to going 3 for 3 and doing the SoMA walking tour next year! We are true SF on Tap fans!! You won't regret booking with SF on Tap, especially if you want a personalized craft beer experience and want to learn about the city's rich history and the details of brewing.

Tucked into a driveway in West Clay Park is little slot in the fence, a small stairway, and a tiny path that takes you a hundred feet or so from the neighborhood out to the Presidio sign. Why this easement exists, I know not. Why it's named after Ansel Adams, I know not. But I can confirm it exists, that it's in good shape, and that ya, if you're walking and for some reason you don't want to go down 25th, you can go down 24th and take the foot path and still pop out at El Camino Del Mar. It's well taken care of, gives you a small view of Lobos Creek (or at least where Lobos is theoretically, as the water itself is overgrown with green) and adds some variety in your walk. Plus the homes on West Clay Park are almost all super nice and one even has a bench out front to park your caboose. It's not nothing, and it feels like fun little secret back passageway. Fun!

I'm sure my nearly 20 year old review doesn't mean much these days, but I sure am glad that he and his business are doing so well. Our guide, Peter, was excellent--professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable. He even texted us the night before to confirm the pickup time and location, which we really appreciated. Peter arrived right on time and emphasized his goal to start early in order to avoid traffic, secure good parking at Muir Woods, and get ahead of the crowds. Sure enough, his planning paid off--we bypassed a traffic slowdown near Mt. Tam, parked conveniently close to the entrance, and entered the park well ahead of the busier groups. This gave us a more peaceful experience and allowed us to take stunning photos without too many people in the background. By the time we were finishing the loop, crowds were just starting to arrive--perfect timing! We had plenty of time to soak in the natural beauty, enjoy the crisp morning air, and take in the quiet serenity of Muir Woods before it got busy. After our walk, Peter took us to Sausalito, where we had the option to either return with him to San Francisco or take the ferry back to Pier 39 or the Ferry Building. We chose the ferry so we could explore Sausalito more leisurely, enjoy a delicious lunch by the bay, and do a bit of shopping. It was a perfect way to end the day. Even though Peter has only been leading tours in SF for six months, he impressed us with how much he knew about San Francisco, Marin, Sausalito, and Muir Woods--he never ran out of interesting facts and stories. He's also a great driver, which helped ease my nerves on the winding road up to Muir Woods. (He mentioned he used to be a Grand Canyon tour guide, so he's clearly experienced with mountain roads!) As a side note, I've lived in San Francisco for 20 years, and this was my first time visiting Muir Woods on a tour. I had avoided driving there myself because of the twisty roads, but taking this tour was the best decision. It was stress-free, enjoyable, and gave me a whole new appreciation for this beautiful spot just outside the city. Highly recommend this tour to both visitors and locals looking for a relaxed, informative, and well-organized way to experience Muir Woods!
