I had likely passed by it before but this is the time I really noticed it was there and made myself stop. Pizza Mafia is a very basic place. They have large slices of pizzas (or you can order a full pizza), hot dogs, and sodas. The place is small and the only seating is in the form of two wood bars on the sides at which you can stand. Neither the limited menu or the lack of furniture should put you off. The pizza is really good and very reasonably priced. I personally ordered two slices and a drink (margherita and one with bell peppers and salami). The slices are clearly off the 20" pizza and can easily make a full meal. I fully admit I actually had to get mine to go and by the time I ate it at the train station it was cold, but the slices were excellent. The margherita wasn't standout, but the they used a nice amount of toppings on the other without overwhelming the crust. The crust was nice and thin without being brittle and the sauce was good. It's not the best pizza I've ever had but it was very good when judged against anything. It was fantastic when compared to other pizzas at its price point. My entire meal cost £4 and to have a third slice would have only cost an additional £1. I don't often eat when I'm in proper Stirling but I'm tempted to drop by Pizza Mafia. Sometimes we just all need a cheap slice... or two, or three.

The street scene on Glasgow Vennel never fails to send me back in time - an old cobbled street, including the flax heckling shop ( an old stone cottage) which is a Burns heritage site. Inside, the ambience is good in the old school Italian style, and the atmosphere gets very hale and hearty as the evening progresses with all those Ayrshire families enjoying themselves! On my last two visits to family in Ayrshire, this is where we went, and it was been clean plates all round for us, from my niece (age 10) to my mother (aged 70+). Pizza for me, calzone for my sister, chicken for mother, and pizza & chips plus homemade ice cream and more elaborate desserts for the kids. All done to a T - see the photos from my sister's phone which I've uploaded. I wouldn't call it high glamour, but prices are reasonable (£9.25 for the most expensive pizza) and the value for money and wholesomeness of the food is unbeatable. In conclusion, it would take a lot to make me want to try a different restaurant in the Irvine/Kilwinning area.

They offered a unique twist on the traditional pizza, with the meat adding a salty flavour that complemented the green toppings. We also noticed a chilli olive oil on the side, and adding it to the pizzas took them to the next level. It added a whole new layer of flavour that made it the best pizza I've ever had. Overall, we were not disappointed and highly recommend trying out this hidden gem of a pizza place just south of Buchanan Street.

Anyway, deep breaths, I can do this, stay calm now..........just get to the end of the review and have a wee lie down...... The fact of the matter is, less is actually more, you don't need half a block of cheese to make a pizza taste good. It just adds an extra 500cal to the meal and leaves me bloated as hell that's all. The new menu is a bit more expensive around 9 - 12 for a 12" pizza. The pizza is still as good. They now have a healthy living plus award, which I assume is better than a regular award. It was no problem to us and worth the wait. I had the vegetarian supreme and my partner had the meat deluxe, both were delicious and the pizza base was perfectly crispy.
