    Strong Margaritas
    Sophie W.

I'm from San Diego, CA so I'm familiar with good Mexican Tex/Mex food. I must say the food here is pretty good and definitely worth a try. The Margaritas are excellent! They have a large selection of dishes from fajitas to burgers to flatheads to steak to salads. Personally I love the chicken fajitas! The ambiance is lively and fun. A great place to go out to dinner with the family because there is something for everyone - even picky eaters. On the weekends it's packed so make a reso!

Ah Chiquitos, the boy band of TexMex restaurants. TexMex food packaged up in a clean cut image which is bland and innocuous enough so as to not offend anyone but with no real substance beyond the shiny exterior. Meanwhile behind the scenes a team of bigwig management types at head office are trying their hardest to get as many people to buy into it as possible. In terms of a TexMex experience it's about as authentic as a Rolex picked up from a market in Shanghai or a compliment from a stripper. It's not that it's bad food, it's just a bad attempt at TexMex food. Before we ordered we were brought a complimentary dish of, you guessed it, tortilla chips. Right? Wrong. Here you get the well known Mexican staple of popcorn to help you decide what to order. I went for the choritzo and sweetcorn tostadas followed by the southern fried chicken with BBQ pulled pork. Tostadas were reminiscent of eating very small ham and sweetcorn pizzas with a dollop of sour cream on the top. It was very much a knife and fork affair, street food this isn't. Although to be fair they don't pretend it to be. My main was uninspiring chain restaurant fodder. Chips, a small piece of corn on the cob, a pot of coleslaw and a fried chicken breast in a bland southern fried coating topped with some pulled pork and some lava like cheese which managed to retain heat much longer than anything else on the plate. Nothing had any kick to it, I used up about half a bottle of hot sauce before conceding it was either watered down or had never been hot in the first place. I suspect the latter. The pulled pork was the best bit, but sadly also the bit there was least of. Bottom line is Chiquitos is unlikely to make anyone's top 10 best restaurants ever list, and you'll probably never hear a death row inmate ask for one of their dishes as a last meal but it's sanitised enough that you could come here with pretty much any group of people and they will all find something they are willing to eat.

It is always interesting…read morewhen traveling to explore local restaurants and to find a true gem like this is exceptional. From the get-go when we entered the restaurant, we were welcomed and the staff was very attentive. They change their menu up often and there were several good options. Being low carb boy, I was looking at the choices, but after our waiter detailed their signature veal dish, we were hooked. It was outstanding and really blew our minds. True meaty goodness that was one of the most phenomenal things I have had in a long time. We are tempted to return just to have that dish again. It is a ball of veal stuffed with ham, Italian sausage and fontina cheese. It is covered in a peppercorn sauce that was incredibly yummy. I cannot recommend this dish more. Truly worth the trip to try. We tend to avoid sugar, but, it was a very special evening, so we tried the Eton Mess and were not disappointed. Not too sweet, with strawberries and blueberries immersed in rich, heavy cream that has roasted almonds and pieces of meringues. I am sure it blew my carb count for the day. I look forward to my return and encourage you to check it out.

This is a fantastic restaurant. I have been here 3 times and had new things everytime (not…read moresomething I do often). The menu is amazingly varied with choices for any taste. There are good vegetarian choices, but plently of good meat dishes. Some of the meals are quite unusual: I have had Venison and Rabbit there. The meals are not cheap (roughly £12-15 per main meal) but I can honestly say they are worth every penny, so worth a special trip. The atmosphere is quiet and cosy; perfect for a romantic dinner. Although I am sure they could cope with bigger groups, they didn't seem to be set up for it so you may need to book ahead. If there are just 2 you should be find without booking on a week night, but I wouldn't risk it on the weekend. The staff are friendly and attentive and will make recommendations from the menu if you want. The wine list is extensive and (althought I am not a wine expert) seemed good. I have always been happy with my choice.

Between its name and the extensive, plastic-coated menu in the window, I was wavering about whether…read moreto go inside. Both of those things were giving off a fast-food feel and I was seeking something different. A couple passed by, observed my reticence, and unsolicited announced "Go in. It's really good". I encouraged the banter and asked what they loved. "The meat" was their hearty endorsement, "All of the meat is excellent". And that's all it took for me to open the door and realize that everything I'd assumed about Best Meze Grill was incorrect and everything I'd heard about Best Meze Grill (those two sentences above) was spot on. Lots of things arriving at my table free of charge is always a way to my heart. Best Meze Grill complied first with the onion salad, olives, lavash, and more. From there we segued into what we'd ordered: Cabernet and Beer (Efes) paired with a Hot Mixed Meze (£17.95; ample for 2) featured a host of delicious tastes: feta straws, falafel, small fried fish, sausage, whitefish bites, and haloumi. The Ezme Salad (£7.25) featured tomatoes, onions, peppers, and pomegranate, a mix that surely was the nectar of Turkish gods. Each Mediterranean country seems to have their own version of a similar salad; The Ezme almost had me booking a flight to Turkey. I never got around to "the meat". A second tray of complimentary treats arrived in place of the dessert not ordered. Featuring fresh fruits and sweet Turkish nibbles, this was the ideal close to a quite perfect meal. Despite the plastic-coated menu and the name, Best Meze Grill is classy and delicious and a far cry from fast food. The folks who write reviews on TripAdvisor appear to have figured this out a while ago. Now yelp fans - or at least this one - have weighed in. Good place.
