My birth plan did not go as planned (as they always say happens). Heather was there to help us through these obstacles every step of the way. She doesn't push you to make any decisions, she educates you and informs you and prepares you to make the decisions that fit you best. I had complications post delivery and she comforted my husband and made the phone calls and held my baby during this emotional time while I was in the OR. She was so much more help than we could have even dreamed of. She is the full package. She even took our newborn photos when my daughter was two weeks old and we turned it into our Christmas card. We also took Heather's classes to prep us for L&D. She made us feel comfortable about everything. She even braided my hair when I was in labor, so sweet! We made her work over time! Poor Heather. She was with us for hours and hours for two days straight. She was very responsive and willing to do whatever we asked her to do. She was even helping coordinate keeping my placenta and the logistics of that. I even texted her the other day to ask about recommendations for my baby and she answered right away. They gave me so many tips and idea on how to avoid stalling out again. There were 2 at home prenatal visits, on-call support leading up to the birth, support during the birth, and a perinatal appointment after the birth. I ended up having an amazing home birth experience and Amanda provided so much support for me during the pushing stage. Having her there to hold my hands, guide me through breathing, and hold my hand afterwards for stitching was just what I needed. I would highly recommend Elevated Birth if you're interested in a doula for your birth. I've read that women who birth with a doula statistically transfer to hospitals less and also require less epidurals. Georgiana is a certified nurse midwife, but don't let the phrase scare you. She delivers IN the hospital (St. Al's) and you may still have drugs if you so desire (I say this because every time I have mentioned the word "midwife"--people seem to think I gave birth at home or something--I'm simply not that brave!). I would say the only difference between Georgiana and a regular OB (as I've used both) is that the birthing process feels a bit more natural (dimmed lights, soft music) and less medical (bright lights, chattering nurses, etc). Nearly 7 years later, I still see Georgiana for my annual visits. She's wonderful. She's incredibly knowledgeable and I feel quite comfortable placing my health in her hands. I should also add that the entire staff at Boise OB/GYN have never been anything but lovely to me. The wait time is never excessive and on the flip side of that, I have never felt rushed (by Georgiana or any of the staff, for that matter). Love this place!
