I was in my early twenties and had just started experiencing mild pain in my lower back. Her friendly and professional demeanor helped me to get over my fear of chiropractic treatment. She had me sorted quickly and sent me on my way. I am so grateful I met her when I did because a few years later I suffered great pain from a car accident and she was the best possible chiropractor for the job. Dr Shelley is so much more than a chiropractor. She is a teacher, educating her patients so they understand both the pain they're experiencing and the method behind her treatment. She even provides homework like a teacher, sending people away with exercises and stretches, empowering them to care for themselves. She emphasizes personal responsibility as a necessary component for long-term health and she equips her patients with the tools to succeed. She is an effective communicator, and empathetic listener and a very thorough practitioner. It is no surprise that she ranked #1 in the city of Vancouver for a few years in a row. I have personally referred at least a dozen Vancouverites into her office. We were all sad to see her go when she left for Ontario. If you're experiencing any kind of pain: chronic pain, athletic injury, occupational discomfort, or serious trauma from an accident, you can rest knowing that Shelley will have you strong and on your feet in due time. So I wrote this review a while back:…read more "As part of my "treatment" for an ankle injury, I was told I needed orthotics from her clinic and had to pay for exercise classes. She told me to take three weeks off work and I should be better. She then asked me if I had insurance, and when I said yes, wanted to sell me a walking boot that day after telling me to get off my feet for three weeks. When I asked why I would need it if I was supposed to be off my feet, she said after a long pause, "Well maybe it would help with the injury". A few weeks with the orthotics and I started to feel some discomfort in my upper leg. I was told that I couldn't see the doctor, that I would have to let the physiotherapist work on it first. He fractured my leg in two places and destroyed the muscle in my leg. I haven't worked in over a year and all I got was "I'm sorry" while she looked at the floor. While trying to assess the initial problem in the leg, she prescribed me morphine and gabapentin without telling me what the second was or what she was treating me for. I wasn't interested in pain management, I wanted the problem diagnosed and dealt with. She lied to me multiple times during my visits including, but not limited to, giving me her card and telling me to have my employer call her in place of giving me a note. At the end of this ordeal, when I asked her if I should have my employer call her, she said no because they can't tell them anything over the phone. So why did she twice tell me it was fine before that? She told me she knew what was causing the pain and it would be gone in two weeks but she never actually told me what she thought the problem was. She is the most irresponsible professional I have ever had to deal with. Read some of the other negative reviews here. Regardless of how you are referred to Olivia Cheng, you do not have to use her or her clinic. Exercise your right to choose. You'll thank me later." I then received an e-mail from Todd Starr, who has never been my doctor, calling me a liar and making claims that "they" (Olivia, Darryl & Todd) didn't know who would have made that claim. For that to be true, there would have to be multiple patients who could have made the claim, or Olivia and Darryl were not honest with Todd. I then got a cease and desist from Darryl Novotny so I pulled this review on a hunch. The hunch is that it was Todd pulling the strings. Based on what Darryl said to me in an e-mail, he doesn't have a full understanding of timelines and events as he has bumbled facts and again made accusations that are untrue. He's clearly getting his legal advice from a chiropractor. As a result of Todd and Darryl's unprofessional conduct and narcissistic approach to dealing with this issue, I have filed formal complaints with the Colleges of Chiropractors, Physicians & Surgeons and Physiotherapists. I…read morewas not able to walk without assistance and relied heavily on a walker to relieve the pressure on my spine . The pain standing was a 10 and my left leg and foot as well as my right foot would go numb in minutes. I have been in treatment for three weeks and am slowly regaining the ability to walk without assistance, going from walker to walking poles to sometimes nothing. I am able at this point to walk at least two thousand steps a day and with determination sometimes five thousand steps. I have a very long and difficult journey still ahead in my recovery, but Dr Taylor using his expertise has given me not only exceptional treatment but hope for the future. I highly recommend his practice.
