Specialties

Chistochina Bed and Breakfast offers choices of rooms with King, Queen, or Two Double beds. We also have a fully furnished cabin with complete cooking facilities, shower, double bed and sofa bed. We are located near the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, HAARP, and Mt. Sanford Tribal Consortium. There are trails nearby for hiking, skiing and wildlife viewing. An occasional moose or bear comes through our yard and caribou cross our yard in their spring and fall migrations. Mt. Sanford (16,237 ft) is viewable from our front deck. We have two large decks that view the rear of our manicured yard and the surrounding black spruce forest. Our great room has leather furniture and large conference table. It has a local Alaskan motif with bear, wolf and moose mounts. We believe in cleanliness and take pride in seeing that our rooms, cabin and facility is spotless. Our motto is: "Come as a guest and leave as a friend".

History

Established in 1995.

Norma retired in 1995 from working as a dental assistant and began Chistochina Bed and Breakfast using the rooms the three children used while growing up. Doyle retired from teaching in 1996 and joined Norma in running the business. We added a cabin that was built in the early 1960s by Harry Boyden, a local mail carrier and character, and now use that cabin as part of our Bed and Breakfast. We take special pride in seeing to the wants and needs of our guest. We keep in touch with many of them through email, letters, and occasionally we meet one for dinner in some far away place.

Meet the Business Owner: Norma T.

Norma worked as a dental assistant for several years before retiring and starting the Chistochina Bed and Breakfast. She saw a need for housing in the area as there are several nearby businesses but no place for the traveling employees to stay. Most of the first guests were either tourist traveling through the area or traveling employees of either HAARP or Mt. Sanford Tribal Consortium. Now that we are fairly well known we get guest from all over the world, and people who are working in the area. Occasionally we have people who are working in the area spend weeks or even months at a time with us.
