When your coffee choices are limited south of the the border, this place seems legit. Though in the…read moreworld of craft coffee places, it does comes up slightly short. Again, very limited options in San Felipe, Mexico- but where else can you go? They use quality, fresh ground coffee though. Normally only one roast available along with espresso. And they have soy and almond milk for those that want it. However, no oat milk and no half & half(which I happen to use 95% of the time) One thing that has me perplexed is the fact there is no existence of half and half in Mexico it appears. And I love my half and half in my coffee. I've been to many coffee shops down there and they want to give you whole milk, evaporated milk, or if they have- heavy cream. Just not the same for me. But I'll just have to settle for what they got to offer. There's a chain in Tijuana called D'Volada that is the closest thing to a Starbucks or Peet's. If they could just open one down in San Felipe... although this place is still the best option.

There aren't too many coffee options in San Felipe and this one was highly reviewed so we gave it a try. My companion had a cafe mocha with an oatmeal cookie and I had a cafe latte with a chocolate chip cookie. I am not a coffee snob so I can't provide a detailed review of each brew. However, I did find them to be appropriately roasted and to have a balanced flavor profile. I feel like it will satisfy most coffee drinkers. The cafe is located at just about the Southern end of the main strip across the street from a large hotel/resort. Parking was easy early in the morning although I suspect it might be more difficult as the day progresses. La Taza gets a recommendation not just because it is one of the few coffee spots in town, but also because it is genuinely good.

Located at Kilometer Marker 176.5,…read morejust 7 miles north of San Filipe, is a lovely community of homes built on the ocean and surrounding a golf course. La Caras de Mexico is one of the few golf courses south of Mexicali. It is well groomed and is popular with locals and visitors alike. Sparse on water, the greens are not as green as those in the States, but they are nicely trimmed and do the job. In the middle of all the homes and greens is the Pavilion Restaurant. The building and courtyard are lovely. Found inside are the golf shop and meeting room right next to the restaurant. Yoga was getting finished as we were leaving. I only saw ex-pats enjoying the property and locals working there. We sat outside I in the courtyard since the weather was gorgeous. Our server was very attentive and took care of us timely. My only gripe was that I ordered the spinach and bacon omelette, but was given a spinach mushroom omelette. Not being a mushroom fan, but knowing their health benefits, I ate it. For what it was, it was good. The toast was delicious and tasted freshly made. The hash browns wet re perfect as well. My friend had the Spa Omelette made with egg whites, onions, peppers and cheese. He said it was very good. Paired breakfast with a couple of Chavelas that really hit the spot. If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful place away from the hubbub that is San Filipe, come have breakfast, lunch or dinner. The sun and fresh air are waiting.
