Came at an off time- although it's open 24 hours a day so you just have to stop in when there isn't a line. Churros are light and not greasy and the chocolate isn't too sweet. It's thick and warm and creamy and almost like a pudding. Amazing. read more

I was visiting by myself hoping for hot chocolate. They were pushing ice cream, so I got that instead as I didn't want t to hold up the line. I also knew it was "order first, then find table". Great, it was crowded, but figured I'd find a seat. After paying the cashier asked if I wanted it to go? I guess because I was solo i didn't want to sit or they didn't want a single person to take up a two person table? Fine, I'll take it to go. The cashier looked agreived and got out of her chair & asked me to follow her. "Where are we going? I'm happy to eat in." ( as planned). Expect this place to be crowded! We went on what we thought would be an off time (5:30 pm) and it was still busy. Despite being busy, we were able to get a table quickly. This is the second location of Chocolateria San Gines. The original location in center of the city has long lines. If you are staying near this location and want to see what is the hype about, then go to this location. I ordered a plate of Churros. They come with chocolate syrup. They also gave me a Porras to try. Didn't like Porras. Churros was good and so was the chocolate syrup. Syrup is not sweet, so balances out the sugar in the churros, but couldn't balance out the oil. But, it's an extremely heavy dessert. One plate can be shared by at least 4 people, unless you have a super sweet tooth. Price is reasonable. I'm told this place sells the best churros in entire Spain. You should try them if you are a tourist, but don't go with high expectations! Unless you are a big churros fan, you'll be disappointed. read more

Best churros ever. They are freshly prepared and served with the best hot chocolate sauce for dipping. The churros were nice and crispy on the outside and light and airy inside. I've had churros that have been too thick, dense and doughy but these were nice and light. Perfect to pair with the thick, rich, creamy hot chocolate sauce, which they don't skimp out on. You get 6 churro sticks and a full cup of hot chocolate with one order. Perfect for sharing-or not! You get your moneys worth with the size of the order and the quality of the food. You have an option to sit down and order with a waiter or order them to go at the window. The people are very friendly. Theres nothing more I can say to better describe these churros. Just go now! Five star for Warm and crispy and not too greasy. The joy chocolate is thick but with the right amount of sweetness. It is actually pretty filling but I'd say this is a must try if you are in Spain. Haven't found it in Toronto so far. read more

Check your expectations. After much hype from friends and family it's quite disappointing to arrive and have the most mediocre experience with hot chocolate and churros. They were good but not amazing. The hot chocolate tasted watered down and the churros were bland. Crispy, but lacking of flavour. It's a perfectly good chocolate with churros, but with great power comes great responsibility and San Ginés was lacking something extra to answer for its fame. read more

Took a stroll down the street and found Chocolatería San Ginés! Had the 4 churros and chocolate which were outstanding. The churros are cooked fresh to order and were perfectly crispy on the outside and delicate on the inside. The order comes with four churros or two parros (same batter as the churro, just twice as thick). The chocolate was poured steaming hot and was a great accompaniment (thick and not too sweet!). The churros were delicious and the chocolate dipping sauce was amazing, but their customer service was horrible! I was asked for a receipt upon sitting and explained my friend was in the restroom and would return shortly with the receipt. They made me stand to the side and watched me like a hawk....you would think they thought I was stealing from them. After my friend returned she explained that she had tossed the receipt in the trash. Well this was unacceptable to them even though they failed to explain that we would need the receipt when we made our purchase at the register. They walked my friend over to the register where they went through the trash to find the receipt! WTF?!?! The cash register clerk could have simply verified that we had made the purchase to the "churro security patrol" instead of making an unnecessary scene. Save your receipts my friends or deal with rude and disrespectful staff at this establishment. Best bet is to get your items to go! read more
