The system doesn't allow 0 stars, so I have to click on 1 star. If I can be clear about anything it's this: avoid this company at all costs.
On Saturday, my tenant's furnace stopped working. So, we called the number supplied by Choice. We were told that they couldn't send anyone out until next week. It was cold this weekend and there is no way I could allow anyone to spend days without heat.
I called Choice and let them know what we were told. They said that we could call the technician directly. We did. They wouldn't be able to get back to us for 24 hours. After I pointed out how unreasonable that was, the representative said that we could call someone independent to get the work done. I was told that there was the possibility of getting a refund, but they had to approve the work first. I let them know that whether they approved or not, the furnace was getting fixed for the tenant. Again, we're in the middle of winter. The person on the phone agreed that it made sense. That was Saturday.
On Sunday, I still hadn't received the link (so I couldn't send the diagnosis). I called them on Sunday because I hadn't received the link. They said it was being processed and I should receive it soon.
On Monday morning, having still not received the link, I called back. I was assured that I would receive the link. I also received the bill from the independent technician we called. The motor replacement was $550. I also received an email from Choise stating that they would not pay any reimbursement because I didn't get it approved first.
I called them after receiving the email. After being transferred a few times and after threatening to cancel my renewals (which I just did about a week ago), someone offered to reimburse me $150 (after they said that they "spoke to their management" and could help me out). Again, I insisted that they cancel my renewed contract. The representative now states that they could reimburse me half the cost: $225 (which is not half of $550). At this point, I mention that dealing with them reminds me of a car dealership and their practices (my apologies to car dealerships). He points out that if I cancel my renewals, they can't reimburse me the $225. I point out that $225 is not half of $550. He checks his calculator and then agrees.
Before I go on, here's what I left out. My original contract (from last year) doesn't expire until April 7th!!! In other words, they would only be willing to partially reimburse me only if I didn't cancel the renewals on my home and the rental. That sounds a little like blackmail to me. To be clear, I'm already covered under a previous contract, but they won't honor any of it unless I agree not to cancel my renewals which won't take effect until April 8th!!!
I agreed to give the partial reimbursement some thought. However, the more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I called back to cancel both renewals. I was transferred from one person to another person, to another person, to another person. By the time I got to the 4th person, I have to admit, I was pretty frustrated. To make a long, long, long story short. I think I finally got the cancellations. But I'm not counting my chickens yet. I received an email a while ago stating that one of my renewals had been canceled. Just to be clear, I had renewals on two properties!!!
My advice (and you can see the other reviews): Stay far away from this business if you value your money, your time, and your sanity.
This was the worst experience I've had since trying to cancel an AOL: membership back in 2000.
Update 2/20/24: So, my saga continues. I received an email today confirming that the renewal on one of my properties has indeed been canceled. The trouble is I asked them to cancel both renewals. So, I called the company again. After being transferred to a "manager", she acknowledged that only one of the policies had been canceled and that she was authorized to offer me a free service call on the property that is currently rented out (see my previous review). I said I wanted it canceled. She asked me if I was sure. I informed her that I was as sure as I was yesterday when I requested that both renewals be canceled. According to her, she will be sending a notice to one of the departments that the second renewal was not canceled and needs to be canceled.
Again, stay away from this company if you value your time, sanity, and money. read more
