At 8am on Saturdays they have a free class for anyone to join. It can get pretty busy as it's a mix of new/prospective members, your regular CF members, and even kids! This specific class is not your usual CrossFit WOD (Workout of the Day). It's more of an aerobic workout with a partner or two. For example you and your partner has do X amount of squats, push ups, and burpees. It's up to you and your partner how you split that up. That can be a little less intimidating when you have someone to work with. If you're shy, bring a friend! Otherwise the people are pretty nice and let you join their group. Some of them are cliquey, but that's because they're used to working out with the same people all the time. The coaches are encouraging and are great at coming up with different workouts each week. You won't get a lot of attention because there are so many people. If you're unfamiliar with the moves, it will be difficult at first. I know all the moves, so it's a good, sweaty workout that's different from my usual exercise routine.

Coaches are invested in your well being and know how to push you the right amount. This is the only CF gym in the area that has a powerlifting club that concentrates on bench, squat and deadlift with some strongman activities. It's definitely worth a drop in to check it out.

Wow, I was impressed! We did a lot of poses I've never done before. I did not feel judged even though I could not do all the poses. I like how the instructor gave options for more challenging poses. Every class there is something new to learn and/or a different way of looking at things. Training involves hand to hand techniques, traditional weapons, and a mixture of the two. No martial arts experience is required. I had some karate experience with very limited weapon experience and have not trained in the last 10 years. Starting my training here is an educational experience that will last me a lifetime. Learning is a two way street and is embraced in this group. I have been in this group less than a year but look forward to a long history with the Green Bay Bujinkan group.

Sometimes we talk about using our senses, as we may not always be able to see. For this, we usually put on a blindfold. The one I like best and find to be the most helpful is basic knife defense. For this, our partner uses a plastic or wooden knife and they try to "cut" us in realistic ways and we learn different ways to defend ourselves so that in a real live situation we don't get cut. Unlike other arts, students also teach from time to time. We don't have to just learn from the sensi ( teacher.) The reason why I'm giving a 4 out of 5 however is because of the receptionist. I had a 12:45 appointment and I walked in the front door at 12:35. The girl at the front desk was preoccupied with paperwork, took phone calls, etc before even acknowledging me. By the time she gave me the new customer waver it was already 12:50 and I still had to meet Charles, explain my preferences and undress. The wonderful massage ended at promptly 1:45 as im sure he had other clients. So I ended up getting shafted 20 precious mins while still paying for 60. Schedule an appointment with Charles, but make sure to arrive with plenty of extra time!
