To say my experience at Chris Cotes was amazing would be an understatement. I originally was referred into Cote's for a club fitting and as an amateur I was quite nervous.The staff at Cote's made me feel so comfortable and helped me truly feel what clubs were best for me. A few weeks after ordering my new set, my two year old driver broke (keep in mind I didn't purchase it through them). I have always been fitted for clubs that I buy (or win) because off the shelf has never worked for me - and there is a difference. So I been to many fittings at country clubs, a place for a 'champion' , a warehouse and other golf stores. I have to say my fitting today with Kyle Nolin was not just a high level tour performance fitting, it was fun, informative and extremely worth it! I needed a driver, and to fit some yardage gaps in my bag, and mission accomplished! After hitting many clubs and my own, Kyle helped dial in a driver and get me hitting to my full potential. Had a great experience getting fitted for new irons. My old set (which I built) was about 20 yrs old and several iterations behind in technology. Something I learned from Todd during my fitting. He worked with me for over an hour and tried numerous combinations of heads and shafts. He recognized that all the tech was not as important to me as to others. We happened upon the Chris Cote store after volunteering at the Travelers Championship and have made a stop there each year before returning to Boston. We are always impressed by the staff and their 'no pressure' approach. Over the years ee had purchased the occasional used wood and apparel. My son is now a Senior on his Varsity Golf team and we decided that if we were investing in new irons that he should get the Tour Level fitting at the Chris Cote Performance Center. We have always been a Titleist family, but after over 150 swings recorded on Trackman my son was happily leaving with a Mizuno Pro 225 iron set. Originally booked with Kyle, but he was called away a few days before, which was a little worrying, but Kyle reassured us that Randy had taught him everything he knew. Indeed Randy was terrific. Called them and emailed them to get pricing on SIM2's and they couldn't spare the time to get back to me. I've bought two sets from them I the past and gotten all of my repairs from them in the past. After getting blown off and getting an attitude from the grumpy old guy during a shaft repair I went somewhere else and bought my clubs. So I've been hearing all about how you need to be custom fitted for clubs and how much it makes such a difference in your game, yada yada. My friends are golf nuts and wouldn't talk to me until I had a recently purchased set of Callaway irons fitted. I'm pretty much average and these "stock" clubs are built for average golfers, right? Nah. I called the Callaway fitting center in Hartford and they wanted $150 to fit the brand new clubs that I just bought from them. That didn't include any modifications. Not happening, kids... So, I called ahead and made an appointment at Chris Cote's new facility (750 Portland-Cobalt Rd). I was greeted by a very friendly staff and was immediately taken in to warm up, even though I was a few minutes early. The pro that was in charge of my fitting spent a lot of time getting to know who I was as a golfer and was really interested in my playing career. For all he knew I was a hack who just started, but he still took the time to get to know me and my thoughts on the game before looking at my swing and my clubs. We spent an hour going through the shot tracker and bending my clubs to get them just right. I saw an immediate difference in my ball flight, my distances, and the feel of the clubs. The pro encouraged me to play a par 3 on their simulator with the iron we were adjusting, and my accuracy was dead on. Usually I push the ball to the right, but that's only because the clubs weren't properly fitted initially. I can only imagine how these new adjustments are going to translate on the course come April. So if you are considering getting fitted for clubs, I would highly recommend it and I would highly recommend getting it done at Chris Cote's Golf Shop. This is not only the home of the free fitting, but also home of the reasonably priced club modifications as well. It cost me $25 (plus labor) to get a set of forged clubs bent to my specifications. After my hour-long fitting, I casually asked the pro about his thoughts on a driver and he encouraged me to hit the club in question. He spent another 45 minutes fitting me for the driver and changing out shafts until we got one that did the job. Yes, the guy spent an extra 45 minutes with me to help find a better driver for my game. Not the most expensive driver or most popular driver, mind you...the best driver for my game. This is an important point: I was NEVER under any pressure to purchase anything from this shop. NOT ONCE did the pro try to sell me anything, and it worked well in everyone's favor: my clubs have been fitted here, I bought the fitted driver, and I will be sending my golf friends and family to Chris Cote's for all of their golf needs. Simply outstanding customer service! Here is why Chris Cote's business model works.... They are professional, highly knowledgeable and pragmatic, more over, the entire team is completely customer centric! Have worked with Chris, Dean, Dave and had amazing lessons from Dick Bierkan. Most recently , I broke a driver during practice swings . Brought it to their store , Dave jumped on the phone to Cobra, had a replacement shaft shipped immediately, but rather have me wait a week for the shaft to arrive, they did what most stores don't - they considered me! Chris located a shaft in the store and immediately replaced the broken shaft. They said they would simply replace the one they gave me with the replacement being shipped by Cobra. I left in 20 minutes with a fully functional driver - happy , pleased and with a completely amazing customer experience. Most businesses are not smart enough to understand the loyalty this action causes. I am a customer for life and will spread the good word whenever I can.... And you can't buy that with a radio ad! I don't know much about golf, but I do know amazing customer service when I see it- My boyfriend decided to treat himself to custom clubs, and after much research picked Chris Cote's for the free fitting with purchase of clubs (a rarity in the custom club world, apparently). Living in the city, we had to take a train to Armonk (where his parents live) to grab a car and drive to the shop. Unfortunately, Google Maps sent us to their other location in Portland (we had the appointment in their Southington shop), and we ended up being about 1.5 - 2 hours late. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the gentlemen with whom our appointment was (I want to say Dave but honestly that could be way off? He was pretty young, and tall?). Anyways, Dave* was so super accommodating even though were incredibly late. He took us back to the simulator where we passed others taking golf lessons. He was crazy knowledgable and was able to look at just a few of my boyfriends swings and call out the problems. All in all he probably had my boyfriend hit about 100 balls, using the radar system to detect swing speed and such. We ended up going with an entire set of Mizuno irons with just a quarter of an inch more height on the shaft (this apparently makes a huge difference) for under $1k. Went for my first club fitting after playing golf for 30 years. I am a 14 handicapper and thought a a fitting and new clubs would be fun. I wasn't sure what I expected but it certainly did not turn out the way I had hoped. The fitter, Kyle, was rude and condescending. So much so that when I got home I put my clubs away and have no intention of picking them up again, at least this year anyways. I have lost all interest in the game. Well worth the hour+ drive to get there. Chris let me bring in my current putters and get tested with those first, to see if we could get by with just making an adjustment to my current putter(s). Come to find out, I have a strong putting arc and these putters didn't fit that style. Once he determined my lie and loft angle, as well as comfortable height, he brought out about 4 that would fit the bill. Then it was just a matter of me seeing which one felt the best. Another member of his staff helped by watching the stroke, making sure I was being consistent and going above and beyond by being my ball return guy too. Once I chose the putter I liked best, they bent it to the right lie and loft on the spot and I rolled a few more to make sure I was satisfied. They took one of my old putters in trade and I walked out a happy man! I can't wait to put it in play in Tampa in 10 days! Amazing customer service! I'll definitely be back when I need to address different clubs in the bag. read more

My experience with Chris cotes started off poorly but finished with me walking out with what I wanted. A new, inexperienced club fitter took me in for my appointment and really didn't know what he was doing. He really wasted an hour hour and a half of my time and tried forcing me into expensive clubs that I honestly didn't hit that well. Unsatisfied, I left and did my own research on the clubs, came back in and talked to a few experienced workers about my experience with the new associate. They were grateful for the honesty and they got me set up with a brand new set of rogue pro irons. I can tell that the fitting experience would be second to none if I had a more experienced employee. The crew at this golf store are all well informed and knowledgeable about both the products they represent and the golf swing itself. They are always very helpful and friendly every team I stop in ...not sure what that other guy was talking about in that other review. My first time in there I had dirty jeans and an old tee shirt on and was treated with the utmost respect and kindness. Outstanding Customer Service. I recently went to Chris Cote's Golf to get fitted for my first set of quality golf clubs my size. ( I'm very Tall). THE BEST! I was fitted with clubs years ago when the shop first opened on Main St in Portland. The Ping clubs have been great but I thought I needed an upgrade with my driver. I went to the new store and talked with a salesman (unfortunately I didn't get his name). I described my problem and he monitored my swing with several different clubs. I had the same slice problem with every club. He watched me swing with my own club, suggested an adjustment in my grip and PROBLEM SOLVED! "You don't need a new club, you need to play this one differently ". He could have sold me a $400 club but didn't and I'm thankful for that. I'll start off by saying I actually had a pleasant experience with the guy who fitted me for irons but I've had the worst customer experience with this place. I went in because I was looking for a new set of irons and I knew exactly what I wanted. I figured it would be an easy fitting and in a few weeks I'd be playing with the new set but it's been over a month now and I was just told that I'm still at least a month from getting the sticks. Normally I'd just blame the manufacturer but these guys suck at customer service. I've had to call multiple times just to get an answer where my clubs are and there's been a different excuse at every turn. First it was just the 7 iron was on back order. Then they had they 7, but they didn't have the P,9, and 8. Now the shafts are on backorder. What's the most frustrating is every time I've been in that store they have at least 2 employees standing around doing nothing. Instead of being proactive and caring about their customer, they just wait for you to pick up the phone to track them down. They don't care about you as a customer and they operate as if they are the only game in town. I for one, will never be shopping with them again and I'd urge you to find somewhere else as well. read more

Don't go without a suit and tie. I went to buy the titleist ap2's and they wouldn't even acknowledge me. Very judgmental atmosphere. Nobody came to talk or anything while hitting demos w the computer off. When someone did. He said they wouldn't fit me because I said it might be three weeks before I buy.
