I got an expensive camera 5 years ago from my husband after my son was born…read more I resigned to taking automatic pictures but felt "if we paid all this money, I want better shots." I've been thinking of taking the boot camp for a while, but decided to start slow with the "How to Shoot in Manual Mode Class." My only regret is that I waited so long. I tried using YouTube tutorials, reading articles, etc., but my pictures still weren't coming out anywhere near what I hoped. After this two hour class, my pictures have improved DRAMATICALLY. I'm so mad I waited 5 years to unlock the potential of my camera. I learned more in that two hours than the countless hours spent trying to learn on websites and tutorials. It's hands on, you can ask any question you want, you get to experiment, and they feed you! I mean, come on - snacks?! Sign me up! Kenneth was amazing. His energy was contagious, he was so knowledgeable, but he was able to teach in a way to make even the most photographically challenged students understand. His assistant Hector was so knowledgeable, too, and was available for questions. Per their recommendation, I'm going to practice every day and then sign up for more classes once it becomes more second nature. I cannot wait for my next experience here. I decided to look up a Groupon and then was directed to this group. Upon arriving there was a small room with chairs facing the front of the class and our class teacher Stephen. The location was actually pretty easy to find after receiving an email from someone letting us know the day before the location had changed. The class I will say was informative and definitely what someone with no experience should look into. For me personally this was very basic of stuff I am already aware of but found it helpful either way being I had an instructor right in front to ask questions. Plus, it was great to get a reminder of and different point of view from other people. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone that wants to "up" their camera game!

Although he felt a bit nervous at first, he quickly settled in and felt right at home. His instructor, Brianna Lopez, was kind, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. My son shared that he learned a lot and felt very comfortable asking questions. Each day was a little adventure--they explored downtown and even visited Griffith Park. I was personally impressed by how quickly he acclimated. He looked forward to attending class every day and was consistently mindful of his assignments. I think you'all know I love photos...I love to write n document....but man o man do I love this…read morecamp even more! This is the first year we tried Atwater Photo Camp. Not only do they teach kids the basics of photography but they give the kids studio time, take them on super cool field trips all over the city, host a photo gallery on the last day AND they give you ALL of the kids photos they took that week. Now this is really cool cuz you get to see 12 kids different POVs and best of all, you get to see photos of your kid taken by other kids. I just can't tell you as a mom and photo lover how much I recommend this camp. If you need another week this summer, snap up a week!! The instructors are awesome!

I loved that every child got to use a real camera -- not just a toy one. At home, my daughter's photos are usually blurry and pixelated, but here she could see the world through a high-quality lens. It was amazing to watch the kids grow more confident as they explored, capturing whatever sparked their curiosity. You could really feel the sense of play and joy building -- it was such a cool experience!
