The talented staff, including Ms. Johnice, Ms. Sheree, and Ms. Raynita (and former employees including Ms. Tiffany), have consistently provided quality education, a safe environment and clear communication. This isn't to say that everything has been perfect, but when there were challenges the staff rose to the occasion and ensured that our children were safe and well-looked after. Recently, students have been engaged in optional sports, arts and crafts, etc. opportunities facilitated by outside companies. We were unable to get him into public school because of his birth date. But, once my husband and I visited the school, met the teachers and learned more about their curriculum and teaching methods, we knew that not being able to send him straight to kindergarten was a true blessing in disguise. My son is very bright and has excellent communication skills. So, I didn't realize that he just wasn't ready for kindergarten at that time. But, within a month at Corkran, my son showed tremendous improvement in his writing and phonetics and other skills that are essential for kids to succeed. Corkran is a fantastic place for a child to learn--and the Christian emphasis is an added benefit. The only reason I shorted them a star is the fact that they close at 5:30 and trend to close for the whole week during every major holiday. This could present a problem for some working parents. Other than that, they're awesome! I highly recommend!

I cannot express how much I like this school. Montessori preschool is an adjustment for anyone coming from a regular play based preschool or daycare, but there is a method (and no madness). I am impressed with the scope of what my kid is learning and impressed with how the teachers have cultivated a sense of leadership in her. It's just an all around great place and I heartily recommend it for any parent looking for daycare in Old Town Alexandria.
