Food was good and well cooked. The service was very good. But the prices were a little high for what you get.

The main difference (recipe wise) between "Lafayette Coney Island" and the inferior "American…read moreConey" is the chili & onions. American uses boring "sweet onions" while Lafayette uses "SPANISH onions " which have more kick. But the real difference is the Chili, and that's the reason for the split & disagreement. Lafayette has a MEATER chili, meaning they don't skimp on quality ingredients. My best friend and I used to skip school in the 80's just to eat here. And the bathroom is COOL! It's like an adventure! The other main difference is American Coney has open seating because REAL Detroiters don't eat there. When interviewed there's a real character difference between owners. Grace Keros, the 3rd gen owner of American Coney likes to talk sh1t. You don't need to do that when your product is superior. Every interview she gives is sour grapes. Plus REAL Detroiters Coney dogs never put CHEESE on the coneys. American Coney = FAKE Detroit Coneys. Here is a pic of me in my $4Million Batmobile. Batman prefers Lafayette!

The Coney dog ($4) was ordered. It had the classic toppings of bean less chili, yellow mustard, and raw chopped white onions. This was solid. There was a nice bite on the chili with plenty of mustard and onions. The bread was soft and the hot dog was cooked appropriately. The chili was the key as it was hearty and meaty. Will I go back? Yeah, sure.

(Call it a late breakfast early lunch hahaha). It was a nice day, so happy to sit outside. Their menu is so varied and there are sooo many dog options and other things to choose from, I recommend you look at their online menu ahead of time. This definitely helps in the ordering process. Especially when you have 5 adults and a toddler. The inside is tight with only a few tables. The condiment counter can get busy too. We ordered the Mac n cheese bites for the toddler and she really enjoyed them! Yummmy she said. I had the LA - short. It was really good! Loved the onions and peppers. I should've asked for some jalapeños. It took it to the next level. My husband and dad both ordered a Long Bacon and Cheese dog. They both really enjoyed. There was also a short Kraut dog and Long Flame Dawg. My son in law was sweating from the heat on the flame dog! He gave me a few jalapeños that I put on my LA dog. We all commented that the buns and hot dogs were great quality and our various choices were perfect to our liking! We shared a SMALL fries. Wow, it was a lot! 5 people shared and it was still a lot. We also had a vanilla and banana shake. Please note the difference from a small and medium shake is only an extra $ .25. So, go for the medium! Delicious shakes! By the time we were done, there was a line out the door. The team inside did move the line smoothly! Hope to come back soon!

This weekend, I visited him and when he asked where I wanted to eat, I said, "DUH Scooters!" I love hot dogs! We weren't the only ones with that idea, and we had to circle the parking lot several times before finally finding a place to park. After that, we joined a line that stretched out the door. Once it was our turn, we both ordered the 'long' chili dog and got a 'tiny' fry and a banana shake to share. We were lucky enough to find a place to sit at the counter. While we waited I enjoyed the whimsical wall murals and people watching. Once we received our food, I happily dug in. The chili on the hot dog was unique, with corn mixed in. We were warned it would be spicy, but as Texans, we didn't find it spicy at all--though we did think it was quite tasty. The "tiny" order of fries was delicious and definitely not small in our eyes, though after seeing the massive portions others received, I suppose it was. We kept eating and eating them and still couldn't finish them. The banana shake was the perfect ending to our meal. I hope I get to eat at Scooters again. There are other hot dogs I would like to try.
