Decent burger, basic poutine, good hot dog…read more There's something to be said about a yankee heading to a retro Americana diner. But I was hungry, and lots of places were closed on a Sunday. So I came here to try their grub. First off, it's very much what I think everyone thinks a quintessential diner is. Multi-colored swooshes patterns on the countertop, tons of pop culture icons plastered against the walls, American country music playing on the speakers. If there was ever a tourist trap then this is it. The server was very nice and accommodating. Explained the menu and answered questions quickly. We got a poutine, a burger and hot dog, and some onion rings to round everything out. Food came out relatively quick. Pacing was good, got the poutine out first to munch on before getting the rest. The quality is very much a basic greasy spoon diner back in the states. Lots of stuff fresh out the freezer, prepared like a beach stand with stuff quick fried and sent out. There was some care shown, the burger was lightly seasoned and not overcooked. Bun was fresh and the hot dog had a good char to it. Besides that, it was underwhelming overall. That being said, it wasn't bad. Yeah, it was generic but you don't go to a place like this for solid eats. You come here for that little reminder of home or to explore from the comfort of home. In those cases, this place works. Given that it was literally next door to a Texas bbq place, they very much knew what clientele they were aiming for. If you're curious to try some of the most basic food that the US has to offer, then this place will allow one to experience that without having to drive there. It's better than a fast food chain, but there's a LOT more to explore if you ever get the chance to visit.

the food is very good, the service and servers are great people, and the soup is second to noneread more

Average diner, average food. Shared a Greek & Spanish omelette. Both ok- not great .waitress service…read morewas good. Food took a LONG time to come out after ordering- 25 minutes. $34 with tip & only water- no beverages.

I consider myself somewhat of a diner aficionado around Detroit/Eastside and you have about 3…read morecategories: the Bad (extremely rare), the high end Coney Islands (about 85% of the diners in the area) and then the few Stand Outs. Dan's Diner is a Stand Out. It's extremely high quality but what sets it apart is the special offerings on their menu First off, their omelettes are unique and incredible. If you want, they put a sauce on top of each one of them. I got the Italian Sausage omelette with Swiss Cheese and it was very very good. The Italian Sausage pieces were fresh, good size and high quality. The cheese was also high quality and plentiful What set it over the top though was the Mushroom Sauce they put on top of it. It was awesome! Very high quality mushroom cream sauce and it made an otherwise good omelette into a great one! Each omelette comes with either cheesy hasbrowns or regular hashbrowns and a pancake or toast. I don't eat bread but I got the cheesy hashbrowns and then added their hand cut French fries as an extra side Again, both went above and beyond typical diner fare, with the hash browns being extra crispy and well seasoned and the fries were crispy as well with a unique seasoning. Again, amongst diner food in the area, Dan's stood out and its prices were extremely fair for all the extras each omelette came with The location is great. It's a great sized restaurant with tons of booths and room. You're not stacked on top of each other here. I also like that there are a ton of windows at the restaurant. My service was incredible with multiple waitresses making sure that my coffee and water were filled. Each one of them was extremely pleasant. Food came out quickly. Highly recommend!
