I'm big on architecturally distinct buildings and houses of worship hold special interest for me. It's Downtown and easily accessible for visits or worship. St. Andrews is the oldest continuing Presbyterian Church (1889) and congregation (1866) in Victoria. It's a cool looking 19th Century building, featuring magnificent stain glass windows. It's open for tours July, August, Easter and Christmas and by separate arrangement throughout the year.

The first words out of the host's mouth honored First Nations. The previous individual who was offended & complained about their experience needed to complain to the independent organization who was renting the Cathedral. It is unfair to rate an entire community of faith one star when that rating should be towards 'Fever' & not Christ Church Cathedral.

Staffed by church volunteers - all very kind. I saw the volunteers working with an older man, a regular sale visitor. He was very confused and they took such good care of him. Kudos James Bay Church! They place children's items, sale, large items and things defying category outside. Inside you will find well organized rooms for men's & household, women's items, books and a "boutique" room. Serendipity would be the key word here for me. James Bay Church's sale is the kind of place where something finds you...I don't recommend going with a specific list. It's not that type of sale - the inventory is good, but not that deep. Prices are excellent and the selection is quite decent considering this is a single church operation. You will pay far less here than at Value Village and you see your money going to support a very inclusive, very community-involved church - absolutely lovely.

I rented the sanctuary and the Lion Hall areas for a recent 70th birthday tea. There were over 150…read morepeople in attendance and it was a gorgeous setting for it. I used the Lion Hall as a children's area where we showed a movie and had coloring area set up. It was perfect to allow the kids room to be a little more active than they could in the sanctuary area as that was set up with bistro tables and fine china etc. I received a lot of compliments on the space - it is so beautiful. We used the AV as well and everything ran well. The only thing I would recommend is that if you are wanting music or sound that you incorporate that into your slideshow or whatever you are displaying on the big screen, a friend had created a poster type display we had on the big screen but I had created a playlist on my phone for background music and we had to run that separately through smaller speakers. I am sure there is a way to do it differently but by the time we were into the event it was one of those things I had to let go of as I was far too busy mingling and enjoying my guests to worry about it. There are 2 kitchens and 4 bathrooms (1 with change table) and lots of places for people to hang their coats plus plenty of parking (and, in case you need more supplies Red Barn Market is right across the street) Astrid was amazing when it came to helping me figure out which rooms I wanted for the rental and Brad was most helpful, he met me at the venue a couple of times to go over what we wanted for layout and figure out the electrical loads etc for coffee, tea, crock pots and chafing dishes etc. He also was most accommodating when it came to arranging for delivery and pick up of the fine china and the equipment we rented. I highly recommend First Unitarian Church as a venue.
